Rate this book
A small town, billionaire romance series from USA Today Bestselling Author J.H. Croix!

There's only one rule: Hands off.

That's my personal rule when it comes to Fiona Blake. She's uptight, delectably distracting, and she works for my family.

Once, just once, I break my own rule. After that, she becomes my secret. When the past she’s running from finds her in Fireweed Harbor, I'll do anything to protect her.

Blake & Fiona's story is perfect for readers who love small town romance, tangled family ties, broody/grumpy heroes, sassy heroines, opposites attract, single mother, slow burn, emotional romance with a dash of angst, oodles of swoon, and a billionaire protective hero who will do anything to win the heart of the woman he loves.

This is the second book in the Fireweed Harbor series, but it can be read as a standalone.

This is somewhat an insta-love story. Blake and Fiona meet in an elevator, but they don’t really talk much other than exchanging names. I guess it’s more of an instant attraction. Anyway, they do end up working together, with Fiona working at Blake’s family’s restaurant as the chef. Being that they are working in close capacity, it becomes much harder for them to deny their attraction to each other.

Blake was such a sweet guy. He didn’t want to complicate Fiona’s life by acting on his attraction to her, but he still went out of his way to help her any way that he could. Even though he is a billionaire, he doesn’t just throw money around and act like he’s better than those without money.

Fiona is a strong woman and a hard worker. She works hard to provide for her child whom she had at a young age with her highschool sweetheart. Her ex’s reason for no longer being in her child’s life is different from what is normally seen in books.

There is a touch of suspense and mystery in this book. It all ties in to Fiona’s past, but it definitely made the story more interesting. This was another great book by J.H. Croix!

We are back in Fireweed Harbor, AL for Fiona and Blake’s story. From the opening paragraph, I loved Fiona. Her past has not been perfect, but she owns it and is doing her best and doing things quite well with little. She is in Fireweed Harbor for a job opportunity and a fresh start.

Blake owns the restaurant where Fiona is hired; while not her direct boss, he has been attracted to her since they were trapped in an elevator.

While both try to stay away from each other, can the family and town see what they try to deny? I love Fiona’s sass, and Blake is quite swoon worthy; their story is a slow burn, with a tug or two at your heart emotional. I love the characters and can not wait to see who falls next.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

✨Workplace Romance
✨Single Mom
✨Small Town

This book was just too cute! 🥰

Blake runs the business in which Fiona is the new head chef at. They have this instant connection with one another, but Fiona doesn’t want to ruin her chances at her new job. She is a single mom who has a bad past and needs this job to support her daughter, her mom, and herself. Even with that need, the pull between Blake & Fiona is so strong that they can’t help but give in to one another. But, what happens when the past comes into play for Fiona and she’s not willing to put more people at risk?

I loved the connection between Blake & Fiona. It was such a cute story and I loved the small town aspect of it all. ❤️

Dare to Fall

Another bachelor hits the dust! This story is about two people who are opposites in most ways, she a single, hard working mother, just trying to keep things going, and Blake a confirmed bachelor, set in his ways. Full of intense feelings, lots of chemistry, and drama all mixed together ❤️. Beautifully written story.

This is book two in The Fireweed Harbor series and it is Fiona and Blake’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Fiona was in Alaska for a job interview and she was hoping that she was successful so that she could give her daughter and herself a better life but while in the elevator with a man called Blake the elevator suddenly stopped and started jolting sending Fiona into a bit of a panic and causing anxiety but at least she was not alone. Blake is wealthy but you wouldn’t think that because he keeps his feet firmly on the ground and is also kind, caring, helpful and a really nice handsome man with a great personality and reputation. When Fiona and Blake meet there is a instant connection and strong chemistry but with Fiona working for Blake’s family she had a lot to lose if things didn’t work out and also Blake doesn’t want to risk losing Fiona so where does that leave them. When danger arrives and Fiona’s past comes back to haunt her she will have to make the hardest decision of her life because she is not prepared to bring Blake’s family into her drama and danger. Fiona and Blake both have traumatic pasts and knows all about losing the people who you love but they have a connection that is really hard to ignore but when Fiona’s past starts to escalate will Fiona and Blake be able to communicate and trust each other to help and eliminate the threat and be able to move forward so that they can get the happiness and future that they deserve. Fiona and Blake’s relationship was definitely not plain sailing but they were so perfect for each other and made a great family. I love this book so much and much love and understanding that Fiona and Blake had for each other and sparks flew and sizzled all around them and off the pages of this book and I couldn’t put it down as it was so addictive along with a great storyline that pulled you in and kept your attention throughout the whole book and I can’t wait to red the next book in this amazing series.

I am really enjoying this new series by J.H. Croix, Fireweed Harbor, and the Cannon family. We first meet the Cannons in Archer and Phoebe's story Fall for Me. The Cannon family owns and operates Fireweed Industries, a diverse corporation headquartered in Fireweed Harbor, Alaska.

Dare to Fall is about Blake and Fiona. Blake is in charge of the winery and brewery branch of Fireweed Industries. Along with the winery and brewery is a restaurant where the head Chef is ready to step back from the kitchen and manage the restaurant. Fiona wants a fresh start for her daughter from the life she left behind in Seattle by applying for the Chef position at the Fireweed Restaurant.

The chemistry between these two characters is off the charts! Blake has never had a mature adult relationship, especially with someone from the small town of Fireweed Harbor. Fiona has baggage from her only connection with her daughter's father. She got pregnant during her senior year of high school. Her ex-Johnny died from an accidental overdose, or so she thought.

Something about Fiona makes Blake want to protect her from all of the bad things in the world. When Lia, Fiona's daughter, falls into the harbor accidentally on a field trip, Blake decides that's it; Fiona is the one for him. Good thing she feels the same way.

If you enjoy books with fantastic characters and unbelievable chemistry in a beautiful setting, this book is for you.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Blake and Fiona met in an elevator and immediately felt the attraction. They went their separate ways and then ended up working together. Fiona becomes the chef at Blake’s family’s restaurant.

Now that they see each other on a daily basis the attraction becomes even worse and soon things get out of hand, and they can’t fight it anymore and give in. Trying to keep this a secret in a small town… Yeah right. Lol

Fiona’s life didn’t seem like it was going right. But she got a beautiful little girl out of the deal. Now she has an amazing job as a Chef and living in a little town that she loves. She met an amazing guy but can’t be with him as he is her boss and no matter how much she is attracted to him; she must try to stay away from him. And now to top it off she has been getting threatening messages from one of her ex’s friends.

The story was okay. It had an instant attraction to it that I enjoyed. The back and forth was not enjoyable. One minute they were hot and heavy and the next it was staying away from each other. I enjoyed the suspense, but I also felt like that just fell apart. I wanted it to escalate a bit, but okay… I liked Blake though, he was sweet and knew that he wanted Fiona in his life, if only he could get her to agree with him. All in all, the story had lots of potential and I just wanted a bit more out of it.

Dare to Fall is a wonderful, single mother, small-town, strangers-to-lovers romance that is like an instant love romance as well. Ms. Croix gives us two people, Blake and Fiona, who have a chance meeting in an elevator, but the ride was not a smooth one. Their next meeting sees Fiona working for a restaurant that Blake's family owns. Although she does not work directly for Blake she sees it as a relationship that cannot happen because his family owns the restaurant. Blake keeps telling himself that he needs to keep away from Fiona, but the pull is way too strong. The two of them are complete opposites. Blake is well off, has a big family behind him and friends that are always there for him. He does have a past that haunts him and he decided that he wants to focus on work and nothing else. Fiona is a single mother, trying to get a fresh start in life, has her mother living with her and is dealing with a situation from her past that has broken her heart. The pull that happens between Blake and Fiona is just too strong that they decide that one time is something they needed, but it doesn't stop there. They keep their arrangement a secret from everyone but it doesn't work. Also, Fiona is also dealing with a situation that possibly sees her and her family in danger. This is where Blake steps in, wanting to help her in any way he can. He becomes the perfect book boyfriend.
I recommend adding this book to your TBR list.

Fiona has come from Seattle to Fireweed Harbor, Alaska for a job interview as a chef at Fireweed Winery. Fiona has an 8 year old daughter Lia. When Fiona got the job she moved Lia, Natalie, Fiona’s mom and herself to Fireweed Harbor. They lucked out and got a three bedroom apartment. While Fiona was at the interview she got stuck in the elevator with a handsome man. Blake is part of the Cannon family, the Cannon family owns Fireweed Industries which encompasses a lot of businesses in and around Fireweed. Blake is the man who got caught in the elevator with Fiona. It was just a short amount of time but they were both attracted to the other. Blake would like to see Fiona outside of work but he feels like he is her boss. Fiona would like to see Blake but she is busy with work and her family. Fiona got pregnant when she was 16 and she was with her boyfriend Johnny until he overdosed in a bar. Fiona had no clue what Johnny did for money but she found out that he was a dealer of stimulants. He died when Lia was 4. There is a man who has been harassing Fiona over what she has said about Johnny and his business. Blake and Fiona end up giving into their desires. Will Blake and Fiona find a life together in Fireweed Harbor? Will Blake take care of Fiona and Lia? Will Blake and Fiona find love and happiness together in Fireweed Harbor?

My week had been from hell..hell guys and this book just came at the right time to lighten my day.
J.H. Croix had this fantastic ability to put a smile on my face and fill my heart with joy.
Her writing is super appealing and I want you all to read her books.
Dare To Fall is her latest release and it's the second book from the Fireweed Harbor Series.
This book explores the lives of Blake and Fiona.
These two had a brief encounter in an elevator, just enough time to introduce themselves and that was it.
It was hard to miss the attraction they had at first sight but they parted ways.
When they find each other again, there can't be anything between them, because Fiona works as a Chef at Blake's family restaurant.
He doesn't want to break his own rules but...
And what's not to like about a single-parent romance, with a touch of darkness, danger, and hotness??? Nothing, nothing at all so you're in for a treat.
This book was spectacular and I loved it so freaking much.
Loved the Insta attraction, loved the sweet stuff as well as the hot ones... Boy oh boy.
The story progressed in a way that made me read it in one sitting. I loved the entire thing.
How can you fight the attraction you feel deep in your bones?? How can you not act on it?
It was amazing to witness their relationship progressing and I love Lia so much. What a spunky little girl.
Loved this book and I can't wait for more.
There will be more right J.H.???

Dare to Fall is the second book in the Fireweed Harbor by J.H. Croix. This book is a complete story with a HEA but I think that interconnected stories are best when read in order.

Blake and Fiona's story is great if you enjoy:
* Small Towns
* Workplace Romance
* Single Moms
* Instant Connection

When I read Make You Mine, the first book in the Fireweed Harbor series, Blake was always portrayed as this fun easygoing guy that acted a little out of character when their long time chef brought in his replacement. Dare to Fall gives a little insight to why Blake and Fiona's initial meeting at his family's restaurant was met with a grumpy side of Blake that his family wasn't used to seeing.

I really enjoyed Blake and Fiona's story. While the kinda gruff and grumpy version of Blake in this story was a different side that I wasn't expecting- the amount of restraint he had to hide his attraction and desire for Fiona in an attempt to respect her wishes and keep things between them professional. Fiona is a bit rigid which is understandable as a teen mom trying to start over in a new place. Her daughter Lia was sweet and spunky and I loved how easily her and Blake melded together with Fiona.

This book has tension, tension, tension! Blake and Fiona hold off on their instincts to be more than boss/employee for so long and even when they give in to a little kissing or more- something always happens to remind them that anything more than friendship is off limits. So it's kind of a slow burn but also like its bursts of heat and ice between them.

I'm on the fence on whether I liked the drama whipped up in Fiona's life once she settled in Fireweed Harbor and how the Cannon family was roped in a bit. It didn't make total sense to me and while I get the ties to her past and all it just felt a little too contrived and unnecessary for me.

I definitely shed a happy tear or two for this couple by the end of the book and I'm dying to see Kenan and Quinn's friends to lovers story unravel in the future!

Sparks fly between Fiona and Blake when the elevator they are on stops and then plunges several floors down. Once rescued, they go their separate ways not realizing that Fiona would be working for Blake's family. Fiona and Blake fight their attraction to each other. Fiona knows she needs to stay away from Blake because she can't afford to lose her job or the gossip that would come with being involved with one of the bosses. Blake wants to make Fiona his but tries to respect her wishes about keeping their relationship strictly business. Fiona agrees to give Blake one night, but neither can stop thinking about the other. Will threatening phone calls derail Fiona's present and future? Will Fiona push Blake away to protect him from her past? Can Blake protect Fiona and her daughter from a threat from her past? I absolutely loved Dare To Fall by J.H. Croix! Blake and Fiona are an amazing couple who have scorching hot chemistry. Dare To Fall is a great story with family, drama, chemistry, and danger. I would highly recommend getting Dare To Fall and all the other books in the Fireweed Harbor series by J.H. Croix. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout, and I am leaving my honest review.

Fiona is a single mother who works very hard for her child which hasn't always been easy that's for sure. She ends up landing in Fireweed Harbor for a fresh start, and lands a job as a chef in a restaurant that Blake's family owns. Blake is our hero who ends up having a moment with Fiona in an elevator, but they go their separate ways & try to deny the connection that has already shown itself by dodging each other. Of course her new job totally blows that out of the water, and they can't stay away from each other any longer. They embark on a secret fling as this is a small town, but it doesn't take too long before feelings are getting caught so things get complicated as they're perfect for each other, however, things take another turn. Fiona's past comes calling bringing danger to her life since she has no clue as to who is doing it, Blake steps up to the plate to protect her & her daughter, and obviously, this brings some twists to the table which made me so happy. This story was rounded out perfectly in my eyes with the emotional aspect, heat, and yes, the suspense so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Love In An Elevator?

Blake & Fiona meet for the first time, in an elevator, Now she is working for his family restuarant as their new chef. Blake can't fight the feelings he has for her & persuses her, even though she has voiced her concerns. Fiona moved to Fireweed Hardor with her daughter Lia & mom Natalie. Looking for a fresh start after Lia's dad died.
This story was fire from the start, the chemistry so hot it could have caused an explosion! Fi is still concerned, but the burning desire is stronger then her worries. Until one day she starts getting messages from her past. They start out reminding her to keep quiet, but escalate from there.
Fear for her life, family, job & the Cannon family spur her to end it with Blake. Can they get past the fear, anger & worry, to find something truly special? Or will they just pine for each other for the rest of their lives? I love this family, this town & the amazing charaters created in JH Croix's mind. I have never found a book i didn't enjoy & this one is no different. I'd like to say that Blake & Fi are my favorites, but I say that about each couple!
Check out this story & series today!

Blake and Fiona almost have an instant connection when they meet. Whilst they don't work together, Fiona still works for Blake's family. She's trying to make a fresh start for her and her daughter after an unsettled past and some poor choices.
Blake also has a tortured past so he is throwing himself into work and hoping that his family will become whole again after the tragedy they've suffered
This is a story about two people from different worlds who are reluctant to give What they have a title. For Fiona she feels there is a lot on the line for her. She's trying to do what is best. She has a daughter to think about and when he past comes back to haunt her, she needs to protect herself.
Blake cares too much now to let them go so he will do what he can to be there for Fiona. I enjoyed the way these two complement each other.
This was a different type of writing than I normally read and it kind of reminded me of one of those hallmark movies, just with some darker undertones.
Overall it was a sweet read and i enjoyed it, thank you.

I dare you not to fall in love with Fiona and Blake, the second book in the brilliant Fireweed Harbor series is as captivating as the first, an instant attract story that is hot, has an element of suspense, a swoon-worthy book boyfriend, a delightful little girl and a wonderful mom who is doing all that she can to provide for her child after the chaos left behind by her ex.

A chance short meeting in an elevator and the magic begin's, that one brief moment sets the scene, now weeks later Fiona is the new chef at the Fireweed Winery in Alaska and finds herself working for the Cannon family, which brings Blake Cannan back into her life, for a couple of months they have ducked and dived around each other but, that is about to change, some threaten texts from someone Fiona doesn't know and all Blakes protective instincts come into play.

Blake knows what he wants, and he wants Fiona, but he knows that her past has made her untrusting, and she doesn't want her daughter to be let down again Blake just has to prove he can be all those things and not just a fling to scratch an itch.

This is the second story about Cannon siblings. Blake is the easy going one of his siblings. He runs the family winery and restaurant. Cupid’s arrow strikes him when he sets his eyes on Fiona, the new chef of the restaurant. Fiona has a troubled past. She comes to Alaska for the job and a new beginning with her daughter and mother. Blake and Fiona have strong chemistry that they can’t ignore. But Fiona fears the small town gossip, so she wants their relationship private. When she receives a few threats to blackmail Cannon family, Fiona breaks up with Blake to keep the family out of her mess past. If not for her daughter’s accident, I don’t know when they will get back together. J.H. Croix has her magic way to tell the story about the rush of lust, the tenderness of love, the protectiveness of loved ones, and the bond between family and friends. She makes the town a beautiful place to be and the people lovely to be with. I can’t wait for the next story.

If you are looking for a small town, single mom, sexy, down to earth billionaire romance then you have come to the right place. Fiona and Blake meet while being stuck in an elevator and right from the start the chemistry flies. The two feel an instant connection but sadly must go their separate ways. However, fate steps in when Fiona is hired on as the chef at Blake's family restaurant. This opens up some more problems because neither one wants to risk getting involved with one another when they learn that Fiona is an employee.I really enjoyed this storyline and the mystery and suspense that surrounds Fiona's ex's death and the threats she begins receiving. Watching Blake and Fiona's walls get lower and lower as they realize that they just can't stay away from each other will have you on the edge of your seat wondering how things are going to work out. A must read book for sure.

A New Start in Fireweed Harbor!!

Fiona, her 8-year-old daughter Lia and her mother relocate to Fireweed Harbor for a fresh start and exciting new chef opportunity. Being stuck in an elevator in Juneau, Alaska was not a auspicious start to her interviewing. The kind and handsome gentleman stuck with her made the situation a bit easier to handle.

Turns out that man is Blake Cannon, one of the owners of the winery, brewery and restaurant. While David, long-term employee and head chef, is Fiona’s boss, it still feels “not right” to be attracted to Blake. The attraction goes both ways.

Small town friendliness, mixes with small town everyone-knows-your-business. It is like coming “home” for the reader that has read any of this series. Terrific set of characters, and wonderful introduction of our main characters for this story.

Emotional, romantic, and pure entertainment.

I am going to be totally biased in my review, because to me JH Croix can do no wrong. Each and every book I have read from her is nothing short of outstanding. I love the journey she takes me on and with Blake and Fiona’s story there is the addition of suspense and intrigue.
But what I loved most about their story was how they were instantly attracted to each other and couldn’t stay away from each other. Fiona tried hard several times to first put up boundaries and when that failed she tried to end their relationship going any further. As this is a romance novel, I’ll let you have one guess how that works out for her!!
This authors writing style just works for me. I seem to fall straight into the storyline and I have enjoyed all the characters she creates. No prizes in guessing whether I’ll read the next book released- that’s a no brainer.

Readers will love this quick moving, steamy and intense story from J.H. Croix. The second book in the Fireweed Harbor series brings a love story for Blake and Fiona. Fiona is a new addition to the staff at the restaurant, taking over as head chef, and makes a positive impression on everyone. Blake cannot deny that for the first time he feels a connection beyond physical and cannot stay away from Fiona. She knows she needs to be careful, she loves this new job and new town, plus she is a single mom helping to take care of not only her daughter but her mom as well. The past causes some bumps for these two and of course living in a small town, with plenty of gossiping residents, adds to the tension, but they eventually find their way to a HEA!

This was a cute tale it was filled with lust and attraction and a little bit of mystery. We enjoyed the characters with this one they were a ton of fun.

Overall we enjoyed Blake and Fiona's story it was hot sexy and slow burning and a little bit complicated but, once both parties stop making excuses why they can't be together their love blossoms. Loved that Fiona tried to protect her family and Blakes from unknown forces. This couple was perfect for one another and their attraction was undeniable. Blake was a sweetheart hot and sexy as well as patient and kind but, we were so glad he decided to take the plunge and follow his heart. Lia was such a sweetheart she brought smiles to our faces with just her words alone. Just one of those romances that keeps a smile on your face the entire time.

Although Fiona hasn’t always made the best choices, but she is determined to give her daughter Lia the best life she can, so she and her family have relocated to Alaska where she has accepted a job a chef. While stuck in an elevator she meets a sexy stranger but when she finds out his family owns the restaurant where she will be working, she believes the best choice is to keep her distance.

Although Blake is very attracted to Fiona, he understands why she is hesitant. When the chemistry between them becomes impossible to deny they agree to keep their relationship a secret but when her past refuses to stay where it belongs, he isn’t about to let her face it on her own.

The chemistry and feelings between them were impossible to hide as those closest to them were aware of what was going on before they were willing to accept it themselves.

Yes I’m still saving ! Yes I’m going to Alaska ! ❣️📚 Just loving the cover and what’s in between even more so

Fiona and Blake meet by accident in an elevator little knowing that their paths are going to cross again and then already you can feel the chemistry between them ….

Fiona , her mum and her daughter move to Alaska for a fresh start and Fiona is a great chef and David whom she takes over from is a grumpy but brilliant chef and underneath he’s just a gentle soul ..,,

Blake and Fiona try to fight their attraction for each but to no avail and with Fiona’s past coming to haunt her Blake’s protective instincts kick in and he’s so good with Lia who is just adorable , these people deserve every ounce of happiness that comes their way ❣️

P.S. I do feel for a decent brewed beer now thanks to Firewood 🫶🏼😉🍺 which I’ll sip on while I wait for Quinn and Kenan to tell me their story ❣️

This was an enjoyable romance set in small town Alaska. Fiona is new to town, looking for a new start in life with her 8 year old daughter, and mother. Blake is one of the Cannon offspring, one of 7, with the Cannon family being the towns biggest employer, and while technically not Fiona's new boss, his family does own the business she works for. And that becomes the issue when they experience the off the charts chemistry that burns between them, and struggle to keep their hands off each other.
The story explores what this thing is between them, the issues it could potentially cause, and how events of the past could blow it all up.
Not particularly deep, with low level angst, it was an enjoyable, easy read. A reasonable amount of time was spent on Blake's siblings, with the next book in the series set up in the epilogue.

This has to be my favorite book so far of J.H. Croix's. I got so absorbed in all the emotions the storyline evoked and in wanting to see just how things were going to work out between the hero and heroine, her daughter and their families. Then to add in a threat and a mystery person doing the threatening just added to my turning the pages. I didn't want to stop reading and was sad when I reached the end and even sadder when I reached the end of the bonus epilogue. My only solace comes from the fact that this is only book two in the series which means that these characters will make appearances in the rest of the books in the series. Read this wonderful story and join me in the world of Fireweed Harbor and the Cannon family and see who will be next to fall in love.

A great addition to this series. This book gives you more info on this very complicated family so you know they are just like any family - only many brothers and a sister and rich! Fiona Blake has had a hard life and needs this job at Blake Cannon’s restaurant to help her make her family a new start. She just is surprised of the attraction she has for Blake Cannon when she meets him. Things soon get complicated and this story gets hot and heated. Secrets soon come to the front as both Fiona and Blake deal with their feelings for each other. Will they ever end up together and admit their feelings?
This is a great read and some surprises surface for this couple as they deal with their future - together or alone. Well worth the read. I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Fiona is a single mom whose ex has died, leaving her to raise their daughter with the help of her mother. Money has always been tight and she really needs a new start with this chef’s job. Blake is part of the family who owns the restaurant and winery where she now works. The problem is they can’t seem to keep their hands off each other. Even though Blake is technically not her boss, Fiona insists on keeping their relationship a secret, until that’s no longer possible. Small Alaskan towns have no secrets. Throw in more drama relating to her ex’s death and you have the formula for another exciting J.H. Croix novel.
