The new chilling supernatural tale from the author of ‘Reiko – A Japanese Ghost Story’.
Sienna and four fellow students backpack across Japan on a tour of haunted Shinto shrines. The trip is the brain-child of the charismatic Sebastian, who is intent on awakening the spirit of a brutal 17th century Jesuit-hunter.
Their itinerary takes them to cursed and abandoned places, blighted by past tragedies. Among their destinations is a derelict house in the woods, where a young family were poisoned by a chemical nerve agent; a rusting fairground, scene of a fatal rollercoaster accident; a crumbling school, where a teacher once went mad and killed several of her students…
In every location, ghosts attach themselves to the young travellers, feeding off their individual fears and demons, gradually undermining their sanity.
Sienna had set out in search of adventure. She had bought in to the pitch that they would be unlike any other students backpacking around Asia, taking a picture-postcard tour of the sights. She never believed they would awaken the spirits of the dead.
She quickly comes to realise she was wrong. Beset by nightmare visions, she knows it’s only a matter of time before tragedy befalls them.
But Sebastian is motivated by something much darker and nothing is going to stop him from seeing the journey to its end.
