First and second graders, the intended audience for this Level Two Scholastic Early Reader, will find their developing reader skills supported by a limited vocabulary. Longer sentences help to strengthen reading skills at this stage and encourage young readers to explore a variety of topics.

“Starry, Starry Night” takes the reader into space. Beginning with the Milky Way, children explore the sun, the solar system, rocky planets, and gas planets. Then it’s off to the moon, the space station, Mars, and deep space. A brief quiz helps to evaluate content comprehension; a dictionary of relevant terms and a listing of key words are also included.

A page of reading support suggestions for parents allows active involvement in helping the child strengthen reading skills.

Highly recommended.

A library pick up. My 3 year old wanted to learn about the moon, stars and planets. There aren’t many books like this geared to his age group. It was a bit advanced but covered everything he wanted to know about. With some explanations and elaborations on my part, this book covered it all in a basic fashion.

Nonfiction. 1st-3rd grade. I will use this book for my reading groups. It has great information about space and pictures. My students will enjoy it a lot and find it fun to learn about space.

This book explains the galaxy of the Milky Way and what is in space. I like this book. It would be useful when teaching about the planets. It would be for early elementary.
