I never planned on falling for my brother’s mortal enemy
When I first met Marcus, I had no idea he was the gangster who’d been waging a turf war with my older brother. He was just this gorgeous, sexy guy who was there for me when I needed a friend. By the time I found out the truth, it was too late—I’d already fallen for him.
But my family doesn’t just hate him—they’re actively trying to hunt him down, and so are some mobsters from his past. How long can we keep our relationship a secret, and what’s going to happen when all is finally revealed?
My Brother’s Enemy is a dual point of view, opposites attract gay romance with a dash of Romeo and Juliet and a guaranteed HEA. It's set in Alexa Land’s Firsts and Forever universe, and it can be read as a stand-alone.
Alexa is my go to low angst author… mainly because she can do low angst without insta love… she can do low angst without stupid plot devices… she can do it without stereotypes and generally stupid writing… which is damn refreshing.
I love this series but I especially love getting back into the Dombruso/mafia stuff. Keeps it a little dramatic and spicy. But I loved these two characters and the ease of the story. I’ve read some either terrible or heavy stuff recently and this was exactly what I needed. I can’t wait for more and as always, huge kudos to her and her beautiful covers. 💜
This series is pure fun escapism that hasn't disappointed me yet. It's a sweet insta love romance with heat that also gives series readers time to catch up with old favorites.
I love the Firsts and Forever Stories for the world of family, support, and inclusiveness. This book is a great stand-alone, but also continuation of the previous book in the series. Romy is a really good-hearted guy who gets some really bad news one night. While overcome with sadness, he meets Marcus. He doesn't realize that Marcus is mobster who his family holds responsible for an attack on his mother's bar and a shooting that injured his brother's fiancé. The two click immediately, but all is not as it seems. Can these two make a go of it when so many people are against them and secrets remain? This book has a catch-up with some previous MCs and characters, danger, passion, and a beautiful love affair.
It was great to be back in the Firsts and Forever world again. Romy was a sweet character in the last book that featured his brother Reno. Though Reno had connections to San Francisco, I wasn't sure how Romy end up there as well. Finding out he's sleeping with the "enemy" sent Romy to visit his brother. There was a little less humor in this book than some in this series, but a lot less tragedy than Romeo and Juliet, which this book has a few references to. A pleasure to read and I can't wait to find out more about Timothy, who Romy befriended in this book, and what's in store for him in the next book.
For my sunshiney/grumpy readers, Alexa Land’s My Brother's Enemy (First and Forever Stories #8/KU) is another great, thoroughly entertaining, one sitting read!! 🥰 An opposites attract, hurt/comfort, wonderful redemption story (which is not always easy to pull off) with all the feels, I fell in love with sweet sweet Romy, and my heart ached for Marcus. His backstory was heartbreaking.💔 Alexa is an excellent dialogue writer, and I am a sucker for fabulous, "natural" dialogue. We get to experience these guys falling in love organically, and I absolutely loved how they fell in love, even though at times she made me cry for all the right reasons. 🥹❤️ This story revolves around a monumental secret, and at a pivotal moment I wasn't sure where she was going to take us and was expecting major angst. I was SOOOO worried, however, I should know better. Her storytelling was on point and she kept the angst on the down low!! I laughed out loud, had me the leaky eyes and finished with a happy sappy smile on my face! This is Alexa’s 40th published book and she once again brings in some of her most beloved characters from the past in a seamless fashion. My Brother's Enemy can totally be read as a standalone, but I do recommend you read The Thief and The Gangster first (which I also loved) as it really sets the tone not to mention it is a super fun, sexy read!! Although both end with a HEA and are part of a larger story arc, they can easily be read as a duet or by themselves.
Just what I needed! A sweet, at times heart stopping, emotional story.
QUICK THOUGHTS
● Fast easy read ● Big brother's enemy ● Opposites attract ● One drunken night turns to something wonderful ● Mobsters ● Sweet and sexy ● Made me smile ● Lots of feels ● Some sad moments ● Mild angst ● Family ● Characters from previous books appear ● Loved the MCs... Romy & Marcus ● Satisfying ending ● Could be read as a stand-alone but I wouldn't
Alexa Land writes stories that are like the best warm hugs that you really needed! Her characters are all appealing and interesting and their stories touching. There are all the elements, but somehow you know it will all work out and it keeps you just loving it all—the worry and pain and the absolutely wonderful love at the heart of it all. Her books are my #1 auto-buy!
You will adore this misunderstood gangster, Marcus, and his angel, Romi. They should be enemies, but love conquers all— or they might just end up tragically like Romeo and Juliet.
GAH… I loved this book even though it made me a bawling mess and my heart break for a bit but I got through and finished the book with a big smile on my face. I was so excited for this book to come out to see where it leads because I was shocked when I first heard about the book, well it was worth the shock and the wait! So good! Sweet, steamy, angsty, suspenseful and love, so much love… Swoon… A very heartfelt story. A Must Read but you have to read Adriano’s book first.
I absolutely love this continuing world that Alexa has imagined and I love how the men are always more than is what is seemed on the surface once you get to know them
I didn’t finish. I think I read two chapters. It’s just not ok to make the bad guy from the previous book end up with the hero’s little brother. That’s not interesting, or clever. It’s ridiculous.
Cute, quick, a little silly, and everything was too easy. Which is to say it was the perfect low angst fluff for a lazy Sunday read and I have zero complaints.
