Julianna’s excitement over an all-expenses paid getaway abruptly ends when she’s manhandled onto a boat and whisked away to an isolated island. When she learns the intent is to train and sell her as a sex slave, her world crumbles under her feet.

Daily whippings, bondage, and intense sexual training are just part of the brutal regimen of erotic torture and forced submission as her kidnappers prepare her for market. Julianna taps into hidden strength she never knew she possessed, and giving up is not an option.

If something is too good to be true, it probably is. I guess I'm just a jaded cynical person because from the get go, I thought, what a dumb bitch. Julianna won an all expense paid trip in a contest she never entered. She did some cursory checks and just went on her merry little way...Then again, she is a young thing at 23 who is obviously sheltered and has no street smarts.

The actual training on the island was amusing. It wasn't really that rough or too humiliating. I enjoyed it. If I had been running the island, Julianna would have been trained much harder. I ended up wanting to side with the villains. I kept hoping Julianna would be broken, remolded and shipped off to a new master. It could be a have a special fondness for redheads and would love to get my hands on one to dominate, degrade and torture.

I wanted more degradations, humiliations and forced unwanted responses from her body. I felt she got off light. Where was the rape? It was glossed over. More f/f action would have been good too.

Ms. Thompson's writing was quite nice and some of the training sessions where new and delightful. I particularly enjoyed the food scenes. I would have liked to have more graphic detail on the electro-sex scenes. Not enough detail of the pain and humiliation for me.

Recommended for BDSM folks we are just getting into slavery/capture themes. This is a mild one and good starter book.

Holy fuck! Holy damn fuck!! That’s new!! It took a book for me to blurt these words, a rare utterance nowadays. My mind is anesthetized from the intermediate shivers and my mouth is uttering words which I gave up on during my nightly expeditions. Julianna , a 20-something stylist being tricked into hardcore slave trade ; enforced into a sinister bondage sex play at a secluded island left me on tenterhooks for a happy ending. I get it, the title screams ‘sex slave’ and I am certainly no buffoon to buy an erotica and assume it to be a Danielle Steele. Ms. Thompson, pens a pulsating scenario of coercive sex layering the darkest side of BDSM indulgence. The residing Domme in me dreadfully wanted Julianna to undergo a bit more of the sexual disciplinary anguish but the untimely civilized bitch had a soft spot for Julianna and I was left desiring the poor woman’s freedom. So much for my alpha persona! Egoistical 'Dommes' becoming overtly sexual bullies are a huge turn off and at times criminal. I reckon that was the turning point for me yearning for a blissful conclusion. Did I take pleasure in this book? Hell yeah! Every fucking bit! I’m neither a prude nor faint-hearted. Cheers to that and to Ms. Thompson, of course.

I started this expecting a novel about a girl who gets kidnapped to an island and forced to become a slave. The title would give you that idea, right? Well, it is not that at all.

First off, they picked out Julianna because they fit their profile - no family, young and attractive. But she had zero and I mean absolutely zero submissive tendencies. She was never a slave, she was never close to being a slave, she was simply a prisoner.

And these guys were complete and total idiots. They weren't running a slave training operation, they were running a prisoner of war camp. Sure, they played their little games with operant conditioning but that wasn't about slave training, it was plain old fashioned brainwashing. And they weren't even good at it.

"I never met a girl I couldn't break." - You can break lots of things, but that doesn't make them slaves.

"It's possible to fool even the most discerning master." - Actually it isn't, but fooling you losers didn't turn out to be that difficult.

If you like stories about girls who get kidnapped and beaten, you may like this. But it wasn't for me.

I was a little disappointed at the end of this book. I kept thinking that Julianna would fall in love with her trainer but no. It was not a love story like I thought.

***Review based on Audible edition***

This review will have to come in 2 parts. The first will relate to what I THOUGHT the book was and the second to what the book actually was. I've decided to write it this way so that those who may read it will not go into this story with the same mindset I had and leave disappointed. Know what you're getting into.

Going in I thought this was a BDSM, erotic novel. The subject matter put it on the darker side but I've read many a comic in Taboo Illustrated or on 8muses (as has the author apparently) and I'm comfortable with the extreme. The trouble is that the extreme is really only palatable in small doses and in visual mediums. In novel form the erotic element is lost when the woman hates everything that happens to her and the sex is glossed over because she's shutting it all out. This is a rape fantasy but unlike other examples (Claiming Sleeping Beauty springs to mind) this is in no way erotic. It's not as cruel or violent as others I've read. No one obviously dies or is mutilated and I think the author shied away from some areas she could have explored. That said what you're left with is disturbing more than arousing and certainly not the realm of dark fantasies. Looked at as erotica this novel would only barely warrant a single star.

What this is is a horror novel. One based around abuse instead of violence, rape instead of murder but a horror novel nonetheless. From that perspective there's a lot that shines here. It's realistic (despite other reviews talking about what a bone-head the protagonist was to fall into the trap) for a lot of women and it follows a believable pattern. It's scary in a deep, gut wrenching and emotional way that builds more on depression than explicit scares. From this pov even the bathroom stuff (and there's a lot of that) makes a kind of sense as it gives the reader a full sensory experience. Sights, sound, touch, smell and even taste (but not of bathroom stuff thankfully). As a horror novel Slave Island is pretty good...except for one thing.

Regardless of whether you read this as erotica or horror the major flaw remains the same. Juliana. The protagonist seems intended to be strong willed and defiant but she comes off as bland and uninteresting. She's just going through the slave motions with no real personality of her own and even her thoughts seem paint by numbers. Much like Bella in Twilight i found myself wondering why anyone has any interest in this girl? Veronica (another slave) was far more interesting and nuanced for what little we saw of her. By the end I didn't care what happened to Juliana and that is a major flaw.

As this is an audiobook I should talk about the narration. In a word it's FANTASTIC. There's a male narrator for the male voices and a woman for the female. She can be a little bland at times but she handles accents well and conveys what she's reading clearly. I'd love to hear this narrator reading other books.

**Review of the audiobook**

STORY
Julliana, now known as “slave #38”, has the unfortunate luck of being trafficked and forced into sex slavery. This is not a romance, just the story of her horrific experience.

Historically, I have found that the darkest of the dark books were only available in e-book format, so I didn’t have exceedingly high hopes for this one in regards to it being truly DARK. I am pleased to say that I was very wrong! This is typical Claire Thompson: disturbing and depraved!!!

Although I don’t know that there’s truly a way for a man to know for certain whether a woman is an anal virgin or not, everything else about the story was written in a realistic, believable way. Not only did this book remind me that Claire Thompson isn’t afraid to cross boundaries, but it wasn’t predictable like the majority of sex slave stories one of the bad guys! I’m always happy to read something DIFFERENT in a trafficking/sex slavery story!

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the audiobook narrated byCressida Wolf. Ms. Wolf has an extremely unique voice that is very husky and gravelly. Although some of her masculine voices sounded creepy, it worked well when she spoke as some of the creepy male characters. Unfortunately, she occasionally spoken choppy, broken sentences and she mispronounced many words including SALON, GOATEE, TRACHEA & TISSUE just to name a few.

Sometimes there are unexpected turns in life and how one deals with them decides future actions. It takes a strong woman to survive an abduction, non con, bondage, whipping and re-training to become a "product" to be sold to the highest bidder. Actions have consequences, good and bad. The question becomes, how and or with whom will Julianna make her way off the island?

While there may be some love, this is not a romance story and as the title hints, not all island life is idyllic.

This book is very raw and hardcore part of me really liked that!
I was really drawn in the Jullianes character I felt like I was there fighting with her telling her not to give up!

I thought this was going to be one of those slave books where she was captured and gets intoduced into this life style and begin to realize that having a Master and being a sex slave is what she wanted or needed in life...but nope I was way wrong this whole story was compleatly Non-consensual sex the whole way through. So it was a bit of a shock at first, but the story was really good it captured me I had to keep reading to know what was going to become of her.

I can say I was kind of hoping for a different ending, not that the ending was bad but I had something else in mind:)

Unbeknownst to Julianna she has been book a trip to hell. She under goes torture of the cruelest kind and raped and demoralized on an hourly bases. She wants to find an escape but sadly there isnt one.
She even believes Anders one of her captors could help her but that died a sudden death.
When she is down at her worst an unlikely savor brings her out of this horrid existence.
Julianna is back within the American embassy and has the location of the island of torture and saves the other sex slaves.

things toward the end seemed rushed but overall a good read.

Julianna thinks she's going on an expense paid dream holiday for work, but what awaits her in Barbados is something from her nightmares. Soon she is very sorry she stepped off the plane.
Julianna is captured by mad men and forced to train as a sex slave with the purpose of selling her off to the highest bidder. Through countless tortures she maintains her goal that she will escape from her cruel situation. With the news that her sale is imminent, Julianna will do anything to fight back.
This book is intense and features many scenes not for the faint hearted. I loved Julianna's character and felt for her in many parts. Fans of the author will not be disappointed

This is definitely a darker read than other books by Claire.
Julianna is a stylist at a salon who gets a great recommendation for an island resort. Once she arrives, it is soon realized that this was not what she signed up for. She gets abducted immediately after she leaves the plane and is taken to an island to be trained as a sex slave for the highest bidder.
She wishes she could escape though it does not seem like there is much hope. During her "training" she has to learn how to survive or lose her soul and that is not an option.

this was a fantastic story. Julianna is so damn strong and fiesty, determined that these men are not gonna break her no matter what they do to her. Julianna learned how to bend to get what she needed to live while surviving what it cost her to do so. The horror, injustice and rage she had inside her helped her to survive this and make sure these men paid for what they did to her and others like her.

Had this book for such a long time, so...
Julianna Beckett thinks she's won a week at an island spa, but the reality is otherwise.
The 'usual' nasty, perverse side of erotic BDSM stuff.

I'm between a 2 and 3 star rating on this book. I'd been thinking about reading it for some time now, and finally grabbed it when several Claire Thompson books went on an impossible to resist sale. It was okay, but like several other reviewers said, it was disappointing too.

Julianna was an idiot for falling for the ruse of an all expenses paid island holiday, but she was also a strong person who refused to give in to the ridiculous "training" meant to make her a slave. Her experience on the island and her reaction to it, was pretty interesting. The bad guys were nasty, as one would expect in a book of this sort, but it was Anders who really made my skin crawl. The fact that he actually fell for his own hype made him more dangerous to Julianna than the overtly evil Stephen and Vince.

I felt let down that the book ended without any information about how the badies - particularly Anders - were dealt with. A scene or two where they are given a taste of their own medicine would have been delightful. hehehe

Uh, it was ho-hum because of the story. The writing was good and it flowed nicely, but, it wasn't dark enough and it was all about our heroine, nobody else mattered.

It would have been better for me if we had Alma and Jay's story, that would have been a much better story than Julianna's sad escapade. So many things were off, like she never caught on that Ander's called her by her name and not her number. It is explained why Stephen calls her, and does what he does, but not Ander's. Also, what happened to Sandy, was she re-captured or do they truly not know?

See, that is what I am referring to, the story is ONLY about Julianna, and, at the end of the book,

So why the three stars? The story was compelling enough, and interesting, so I enjoyed as I waited for more, but it never came, which is batting 2/3 for this authour, as Golden Angel did the same thing to me

3.5 stars This very intense, non-con (not a romance!) story starts with a young woman making a very stupid decision and regretting it! The all-expenses paid trip she is given tosses her into a nightmare of forced slavery as she is trained as a sex slave.

Very disturbing story that had me cringing every time I thought about how easily something like this could happen. Lots of torture in gory details. The men are mostly total bastards. I cannot imagine how people can endure this treatment and survive to have a normal life. I couldn't wait to get to the end of this just to see how things turned out.

Though the torture was a bit too graphic for me, I was encouraged by the lead character's inner strength. The portrayal of her experiences was incredibly descriptive - readers will feel the words, not simple read them.

It was a tragic and good read because of the human trafficking issue. But humanity stepped in with love to stop the inhumane treatment. Glad to see progress in the character development. It was a little slow at times but I understand why now. Can't wait till the next book in this series.

This is not an erotic book. It's a rape book. Now there are erotic rape books but this is not one of them. Though it's really very well written and I thought it was a great book. Because this was scary and rape based from the get go it never turned me on.
