Naked Nobility #4

The Naked Earl

Rate this book
He Took Her By Surprise

When a naked earl climbs through the window into her bedchamber, Lady Elizabeth Runyon does the proper thing: She screams. Loudly. And then...well, Lizzie has had enough of being proper. She wishes to be bold. Wanton, even. She won't be commanded to put on her nightgown. Just this once, she will be absolutely daring...

She Returned The Favor

Robert Hamilton, Earl of Westbrooke, has no intention of being tricked into marriage by a detestable female, and if he has to flee naked across a rooftop, he will. Jolly good there's an open window waiting--as well as an undressed, slightly drunk, and alluringly beautiful Lady Elizabeth. Oh dear. If they are caught together, he might have to marry her. The idea is delicious...and the temptation is irresistible...

Sally MacKenzie decided to become a writer in grade school when she read one of her stories to the class. Her classmates laughed and she was hooked. She sat down immediately to pen her first novel.

Well, not exactly.

The hooked part is right--cursed might be a better description--but the sitting down and writing part came later. Much later.

Sally eventually went on to college, majoring in English, and, upon graduation, did what many English majors do--she went to law school. But she still couldn’t shake her dream of writing fiction. Midway through law school, she faced the fact that she really did not want to be a lawyer. She took a permanent leave of absence, came home to the Washington, D.C. area, and sat down to type her first novel.

Well, not exactly.

She did come home and write, but mostly she wrote regulations for the United States government’s school nutrition programs. (Ketchup as a vegetable, anyone?) When her law school sweetheart graduated, he moved to D.C. and they got married. A couple years later, the first of their four sons was born, and Sally “retired” to manage their family. She wrote a story or two and some picture book texts, all now stored away in a filing cabinet, but she spent most of her energies on baby tending which rapidly evolved into carpool driving. She became an extremely skilled scheduler, getting all four boys to soccer, basketball, baseball, track, swimming, piano, scouts, and birthday parties without ever losing one. (Okay, she did lose the youngest for a few minutes, but she found him before he’d toddled into the parking lot.) And she did more writing--school newsletters, auction programs, class plays, swim league guidance, and the acclaimed annual MacKenzie family newsletter--but no fiction.

Finally, the boys started driving (Eek!) and leaving for college. The nest was emptying and she wasn't getting any younger. The time had come to chase the dream or let it go for good, so she sat down at the computer and wrote. And rewrote. And rewrote again until she had a polished manuscript. She joined the Romance Writers of America, and when the plea went out for Regency manuscripts for the 2004 Golden Heart contest, she sent in The Naked Duke. The stars aligned. She made the final round, and one of the judging editors liked the manuscript and offered to buy it.

Yee haw!!

When not writing or obsessing over the various mysteries of book promotion, Sally can be found at the gym working hard to age gracefully, at the pool on the SLOW side of the Masters swim practice, or at one meeting or another volunteering at the helm of the summer swim league.

Here's Sally with her family--she's 5 ft. 8 in. tall, but she's short in this crowd.

2 Estrellas.

Sally Mackenzie has a knack for writing very loopy regency style romances. They are overall fun to read and not be taken seriously. So, if you want a good read with some outlandish scenes that will give you a good chuckle, this book is for you.

Robbie our hero has a "small" problem. The least of his problems is trying to get tied down in marriage. But certain parts of his anatomy won't work the way he wants it to. The poor guy can't get over an embarrassing moment he had ten years ago, so he is bereft that he will remain alone and never have sex again.

Lizzie is the sister of Robbie's childhood friend (Her brother James was the hero in The Naked Duke). She has loved Robbie forever and is ready for him to marry her. Well, this almost happens as Robbie falls into her window naked trying to escape from a spinster harpy who wants him for his money. (Just read the first chapter and you will understand.)

Because Robbie has these issues he tries to stop Lizzie from her marriage minded ways, but that doesn't stop them from kissing and touching everywhere and anywhere they can get their hands on.

Along for this ride is a secondary cast of characters that are beyond believable. You will laugh and roll you eyes at their antics along with hoping Robbie can get over his trauma and be with Lizzie, a very sweet girl who adores him for just being him and not for his title or money.
One high point is that Mackenzie writes her heroes that are almost as innocent and naive as their heroines- meaning no over experienced men who have a thousand women under their belts.

So for oversexed characters and campy conversations you will not find in any other romance historical, enjoy a few laughs with this campy story.

Redonk Nutshell: Two close friends reluctantly realize their attraction to each other amid schemes to be trapped into unwanted marriages

I purchased The Naked Nobility bundle at B&N.com for $9.99! Five books! Yes! Then I read the first...and I was like, "....aw, damn. Is this how the rest are going to be because I think I may regret spending that $10."

The Naked Earl is the story of Robert Hamilton, Earl of Westbrooke, and his frenzy to avoid being trapped into marriage by a desperate debutante. When he's woken from sleeping, in the nude mind you, by an unwelcome and uninvited naked female, he manages to escape her planned entrapment by fleeing out his window and climbing into another room. Luckily for him, it's the room of his good friend, Lady Elizabeth Runyon. Unbeknownst to him, however, Lizzie has been head over heels in love with Robbie for years.

Let the list of cliches begin.

When Robbie flings himself into Lizzie's room, he just *happens* to interrupt her having an intimate "getting to know myself" session standing stark naked in front of a mirror. But it's okay because she had been drinking and wasn't in her right mind. Thus begins Robbie's initial discovery of his affection for Lizzie.

*snort*

The debacle is overlooked the next morning when the guests at the manor find other things to gossip about. After speaking with her chaperone (where the hell was she when Robbie fell into her naked lap?) and her maid, Lizzie is convinced that Robbie will offer for her hand to save her reputation. Not that anyone cares at this point, but never mind that. When Lizzie confronts Robbie in the garden (surrounded by scandalously shaped bushes), he not only DOESN'T offer for her, but mauls her with near uncontrollable lust. Of which she's fine with until he admits he doesn't want marriage.

Wha-WHA?

Why doesn't Robbie want to marry? Because, my friends he has...get ready...erectile dysfunction. *cricket cricket* After a horrific prank from his adolescence involving a group of friends and a prostitute, Robbie has never been able to...er...rise to the occasion. He has no problem around Lizzie, mind you (facepalm).

Meanwhile, our evil desperate debutante, who desperately wants to marry Robbie for his title and money, partners up with her former flame to drive Robbie & Lizzie away from each other. Oh, and have a little anal sex while they talk about their evil plans to marry other people.

If it's anal it doesn't count. GEEZE.

Anyway, Lizzie narrowly escapes with her innocence when the evil former flame practically rapes her, at which point Robbie finally offers to marry her. Since he walked in on the two of them in dishabille. They marry quickly, but their marriage is far from happy. Robbie refuses to consummate the union, leaving Lizzie thinking horrible things about herself. Which leads to weird and awkward sex-talk between each of our leads with various supporting characters about why sex will save their marriage.

Are you rolling your eyes yet?

I was really bummed by this book. It's one predictable cliche after another, with very little investment to plot that isn't driven by lust. How do the characters resolve their conflict? By finally having sex. At the very end of the book. It's incredibly anticlimactic.

It's the 4th in the series, so I'm hoping the first few are better. Because, folks, I have four more to read. *le sigh*

"Men are very simple creatures. They may be able to fight battles and build canals, but when it comes to emotions, they are hopelessly inept. They go along merrily eating and sleeping and fornicating until something or someone interrupts them."

This book was cute but after a while it got really annoying. The hero thought he suffered from impotence. Yeah when he really got down to it, he was sorely mistaken. : )

Saya kecewa berat dgn novel ini. Tadinya saya mengharapkan kelucuan Robbie dgn pasangannya, Lizzie, eh tau-taunya saya malah disajikan .

Dgn setting di kediaman Baron Tynweith yg terkenal memproduksi cerita skandal yg bakal berembus sampai ke London. Memang terjadilah hal-hal memalukan yg merupakan santapan empuk para penggosip macam Lady Dunlee. .

Dan ending cerita yg rada menggantung makin membuat saya frustrasi. tapi jangan selesai cuma begitu saja dan digampangkan dong.

Pesan moral cuma satu saja, jangan mudah terkecoh dgn ajakan pria bajingan. Ikuti hati nuranimu jika tidak ingin menyesal (masih gedeg dgn kebodohan Lizzie).

This was the story I had been wanting to read since book one and it did not disappoint.

Robbie, Earl of Westbrooke, doesn't want to get married. He will not be talked into it, convinced it's a good idea or tricked. He would rather run across the rooftop naked than enter into a marriage unwillingly. However, the window he chooses to hop through for refuge happens to house the very naked, slightly drunk and beautiful Elizabeth "Lizzie", his best friend's younger sister. When the naked man climbs in her window, Lizzie decides that she is done with being proper and won't be commanded to put on her nightgown.

I found that the idea of Robbie and Lizzie was a great one since being introduced to Lizzie in book one and her obvious attraction to Robbie. I loved it since I first read it and wanted to read their story so I was super excited to pick this book up. It did not disappoint.

Robbie is hilarious as he does his best to avoid being caught in a marriage trap. He even pushes Lizzie away when she is convinced that they will end up together, but doesn't explain why he says he will never marry. Although usually a very happy guy in public it was nice to see another side of him where he had actual fears and doubts about his life. I also loved how he did his best to keep everything a secret until circumstances forced his hand. It was great.

I loved Lizzie as well. She is a few years older in this story than she was in the previous ones and her attraction to Robbie is still strong. She doesn't understand why Robbie keeps pushing her away and why he doesn't want to marry her, or anyone for that matter. I also love how, even after events occur, that everyone has their hands in the relationship between the two of them. It was hilarious and the way Lizzie handles it was great.

Overall, I liked this story a lot and found that it was a great read. I would read it again for sure.

This may be my favorite one of the series.

Lady Elizabeth Runyon has been in love with Robbie Hamilton, now Earl of Westbrooke, since she was a little girl. Now she is definitely not a little girl anymore, but she worries that Robbie still thinks of her only as his friend’s little sister. And then one night, Robbie has to quickly flee his bedchamber to avoid being trapped into marriage with Lady Felicity Needham who has been blatantly chasing him. He quickly goes out the window and slides into another open window, hoping to hide. The room is Lizzie’s - and she is naked.

Robbie has always loved Lizzie, but he had an unfortunate experience years ago, and he experiences, um, performance anxiety. He can’t doom Lizzie to a half marriage with no hopes of having children. But maybe with Lizzie he won’t have difficulty?

Earl Robert Hamilton jumps naked from window to avoid slut trying to trap him into marriage only to jump in room of his naked best friend Lady Elizabeth. She's been in love with him forever. The book moved well but was too convenient, too corny at times. Was far too contemporary American in voice; the blatant Americanisms pull ne right out of the story.
Will not be looking for more from this author.

Main: Robbie & Lizzy (Elizabeth)
Secondary: Edward & Charlotte

Minor romances (no sex scenes)
Meg & Parks
Bea & Alton (Billy)

Lascivious house party

Edward plans a house party with the sole purpose of seducing a married woman into his bed. Charlotte attends with the objective of getting pregnant, not by her husband. The estate grounds include x-rated topiaries, x-rated statuary in the conservatory, and a nasty little dungeon in the nearby ruins. So it's no real surprise when several house guests get up to no good.

As with each of the books in this series, the hero ends up naked in the heroine's bedroom in the opening pages. He was chased out of this room by another guest who had crawled naked into his bed uninvited in an attempt to trap him into marriage.

In general, I really like this series, but there's some rather unsavory behavior in this one, so I'll list out triggers here.

Triggers: attempted rape, cheating (secondary character), cuckolding, suggested BDSM (self-inflicted), and death during sex (old man, young woman), ED

The main romance is definitely a slow burn, so it's kind of nice that we also have the 2ndary romance between Edward & Charlotte. But Charlotte, an ice queen, is both actively ploting against the heroine and desperately trying to secure an heir, by any means necessary (READ: cheating/cuckolding), before her octogenarian husband meets his maker. So it's kind of hard to root for these two.

It takes so long and such extreme provocation to get the main couple together. Literally, the heroine is sexually assaulted at knife point, then the attempted rapist offers for her before Robbie decides that life with his ED is less horrible than forcing Lizzy to wed her abuser. 🤦‍♀️

Then, the wedding happens in a flash, but the marriage doesn't get consummated until a month later, after more heavy lifting. Specifically, an intervention by Bea (worst chaperone ever) and her long-time lover/butler Billy. With seduction 101 for Lizzy and some sexy lingerie and a wacky (fake) elixir for Robbie, these two finally manage to get it on.

But rather than this sort of silly solution, why don't the newlyweds explore and experiment with each other to a happily ever after? It annoyed me to no end that Robbie wasn't even willing to attempt to pleasure his wife simply because he couldn't keep it up. Again...🤦‍♀️

Fun, rollicking read, but a few too many flaws to make this a reread or a series to continue. Too many characters, too much going on, and what I think of as an old-school romance trait: scenes from the point of view of the villains, including sex scenes to make up for the fact that the hero and heroine can't have sex until they're married at the end. Additionally, these scenes include the villain and villainess plotting the rape of the heroine, and later the villain attempting it, which wasn't pleasant. (The excerpt from the sequel also involves the heroine of that book nearly getting raped.) The secondary romances - a duchess married to an eighty-something duke who's desperate for an heir and the man who's in love with her, and a sixty-something chaperone who's been conducting an affair with her butler for the last forty years - are far more interesting than the main characters. On the plus side, the book moves quickly, and I really enjoyed the hero's reason for refusing to marry the heroine despite his love for her (he's impotent!). I'm not sorry I read it, but I won't be continuing.

The Naked Earl - Sally MacKenzie🌟🌟🌟

Aku pikir novel ini bakalan kocak banget. Tau sendiri Elizabeth kalo ketemu Robert seperti apa. Ternyata oh Ternyataaaa. Hanya diawali cerita aja interaksi mereka bikin ngakak, Selebihnya pengen getok kepala mereka berdua deh. Kecewa pisan euy..

Elizabeth ini udh tau Lord Andrew seperti apa tapi tetep aja sok berani berduaan dgn Lord Andrew. Akhirnya kejadian kan kan kan! 😤

Itu si Felicity juga ga kenal malu banget. Plus kenapa pula ada side story Charlotte? Dan ceritanya nanggung bgt.

Dan endingnya kog ga greget sama sekali? Begitu doank?? Serba nanggung deh pokoknya.. Kalo kyk gini sih sebenernya menurut aku novel ini ga perlu panjang2, jdnya terlalu bertele2.

It’s too bad I can’t stand “Lizzie.” I consider her an incredible ding dong of the highest order and find her mooning over Robbie actually pathetic. She has no backbone, cries at the drop of a hat, and she’s constantly intimidated by the opinions of others. I don’t find her naivety endearing as I did with previous characters and it’s probably because I don’t enjoy her character at all and find her incredibly stupid/ignorant instead of naive and “pure.”

I always grimace with distaste whenever the two of them come up in the series.

And don’t get me started on Lady Beatrice. She’s an old busybody who’s meddling is annoying as hell. Ugh, it’s gotten to the point that I wish she died off already given she’s like, in her 60s or 70s or something and should have died already given the timeline.

An over-the-top historical romance that reminded me of old softcore sex films. There's ample gratuitous nudity, sexual references, and sex scenes, "scandalous" relationships, some kink (more sizzle than steak), an attempted rape, and a moralistic ending. The chief obstacle to the relationship is the hero's apparent impotence (cured by the right woman), and other crude sexual comedy.

My inner 15-year-old loved it. My mature persona occasionally found it tiresome or cliché. My author persona marvelled at how much fun you can have with traditional historical romance novel elements, and how much you can accomplish in a well-written first chapter. Overall, a risqué and amusing read.

Robert (Robbie) desperate to escape a desperate debutante runs naked across a rooftop and lands in Lizzie's bed. Lizzie has been in love with Robbie forever. She is startled but is determined to not give him away. As Felicity and other gossips crowd her doorway she is unperturbed and gets him off the hook. They can hardly keep their hands off each other and this house party is full of laugh out loud moments and intrigue. I love this series I thought I was reading them in order but I will keep going until the last page is turned. As for me this weekend. I am all BOOKED!

Pithy!

Great humor is employed here in this regency era comic romance novel. I found it much better than most with the use of interesting situations at a house party attended by members of the ton.

Many distractions and pithy dialog makes this a very easy to read story with light comedy written very intelligently by the author.

I have read many of the 'Naked' series books and enjoyed the good natured rapport.

If you want something light and original in a historic romance you cannot miss here.

Refreshingly Humorous!
"And how can a gentleman be naked in a manner of speaking?" (Direct quote).
I mean, really! One can either be fully clothed or totally naked, but naked in a manner of speaking?
This is the type of humor you can expect in the book as it tells us Elizabeth and Robert's really amusing love story.
It is refreshing, very readable, the pages just begging to be turned and I can safely recommend it!

3.5 stars if that was an option. I have some issues with the rape scene and aftermath even if it was a historically accurate depiction. This is fiction after all so even if it was the belief at the time, it would have been possible for Robbie to not blame her in any way for her nearly being raped.
This is the second Naked book I have read and the second that contains a rape scene. I hope they all don't contain one.
This is what will keep me from recommending these books to friends.

Cerita ni biasa aja. Cenderung ga terlalu banyak konflik dgn org lain. Konfliknya malah aneh; konflik batin lelaki. Soale beneran ga nyangka klo ketakutan si tokoh utama pria justru terletak pada organ tubuhnya. Bener kata sohibnya bhw yg bermasalah sebenarnya pikiran pemilik badan, bukan yg lain.
Dari sini setidaknya bisa dimengertilah gimana efek bully-an yg diterima sedari kecil terhadap pola pikir lelaki dewasa.

I really enjoy Sally MacKenzie's lighthearted style and abundance of humor, and I like this series, but this story just got stretched for way too long and it lost it's sense of tension or urgency. That and my favorite couple was actually the ex-villainess and her fairly despicable affair partner, they had better angst, tension and sexytimes.

Apart from the first chapter which showed some promise the rest was balderdash. It was all sex with little else to recommend it. Robbie was shortsighted and Lizzie was an idiot. In fact some of the other characters showed more interest than the two main central characters and even they were a little one dimensional.

This was utter fluff but I liked it okay. It wasn’t quite as good as the first two books in some aspects (I didn’t like the hints at light BDSM among side characters since that just seemed to take the spotlight off the main characters) but better in other aspects (I liked that we got more info about the recurring side characters).
