Four years ago Scotsman Euan Wallace met Callie Hawken at the World Highland Gathering in Edinburg, Scotland. Intrigued by the diminutive and fearless American, he courted and seduced her and then threw her out of his life when he assumed that she was after his family’s wealth. No matter how hard he has tried, however, he can’t banish her memory. Then his best friend drops a bombshell and Euan’s world is rocked to its foundations. Born of a mixed-blood heritage known as the blessed blend, Callie grew up in a unique culture born of Celtic, Native American, and Melungeon roots that has been shaped for centuries by the ancient, rugged, mysterious, and beautiful Appalachian Mountains. Free-spirited and fiercely independent, she’s strong, tough, and resilient, with a heart as big as the mountains…and yet as fragile as the petals of a flower. After Euan’s callous dismissal, she vows that never again will she allow anyone to get close enough to hurt her.Discovering that Callie has not just one, but two children by him, Euan comes to claim them all. Facing her on her home turf is not going to be easy- in fact it’s downright dangerous for anyone she considers to be a threat to herself and her twins, and she sees him as her worst nightmare. Determined to win her back and be a father to his children, Euan knows he is facing impossible odds in breaching the battlements Callie has placed around her heart. But for the sake of love he’ll do it or die trying.
This was an unbelievably good book. I have to say I really liked it. The female character can only be described as 'bad ass'!
Wow where to begin.. I loved how Allison wrote about the richness of a close knit family, and especially the way she wrote about Native Americans and how they work together. The richness of their Native American heritage, as well as Scottish heritage. This book was not simply a romance novel, but very informative about the environment, and history as well.
I loved how she stayed consistent when it came to how her characters talked. The male lead talked with a Scottish brogue and continued that way throughout the book with no inconsistencies! I can honestly say that she had me laughing, and crying throughout the book.
One of the best books I have ever read. I've had this book for at least 3 years, and I still read it often . At times like I'm just have to read it. It's a a book you'll enjoy for years to over .
mmmm, it's a strange period for me. Lately I cannot find anything worth reading. So I went into my comfort books and I went through all Outlander series (this time I got to read even the last one!) and so I had such a wonderful Scottish taste in my mouth I read this title and I said to myself "Why not?"
So 3 stars. The story is a fairy tale, sweet and simple. She's a Native American with a huge family and Scottish ancestry, he's a broad Scot, with full regalia and all - his brogue a bit hard at the beginning, for me being Italian and all ;) - they met at a Gathering (thanks to Outlander I now know what they are lol9, she's a virgin they had sex, she got pregnant and he gave her the slip (thinking she was trying to get his money - he's loaded).
3 and 1/2 years later, he discovered she has twins, they are his and so he hoopla, goes in the States to win her back. All the story is a bit too unrealistic for me, (all her family has gifts, she's stubborn, she's dangerous(she goes hunting with wolves at night, her a mother of twins) but he's more stubborn than her and so we have our HEA. His family is so horrible to be ridiculous, she's like the epitome of goodness (even if she has a very stubborn streak) and all her family is like just get down from heaven. Her children meet a dad they never met before and they love him on the spot (because the can read into him and all).
The Blessed Blend is a wonderful story, with charactors that you can't help but sympathise with. There are only two things that kept it from a 5 star rating. Spoiler ahead...
First off, we didn't need to be told (nor did our heroine) over and over and over again about all his whoring around and it bothered me that while making love, when his mind should be solely on her, that he kept comparing her to all the other women he'd screwed.
My only other draw back was, at least in my opinion, a little too much detail in the surroundings and the rehab program and things of that nature. It felt like filler to meafter a while and I started skimming.
However, those things aside I think that Ms. Shaw did a great job and I would recommend this sweet, non-erotic romance to my friends.
