Really good jungle adventure romance. I really liked the main characters, they had a lot of depth and interesting personalities plus a ton of chemistry between them.

An enjoyable escape.

I was eager for the h/h to get together. I enjoyed their verbal sparring. They weren't perfect. They each made some mistakes during their journey, but that was ok, making them human and fallible. The plot and bad guys were predictable, but it was still a good story. I was slightly annoyed with Madeleine for not following her feelings and for trying to hide her feelings from herself and from Ransom. I was pleasantly surprised at the end about what happened with the ranch. A couple of other nice things also pleased me at the end.

Laura Leone’s Fallen From Grace is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year so it was only a matter of time before I picked up another of her books. Fever Dreams is a vastly different story than Fallen From Grace but I was sucked right into the action packed story, not to mention the romance. Stranded in a third world country in the middle of a violent coup, Maddie and Ransom find themselves fighting for survival and their growing attraction for each other. They share a past secret that causes mistrust, but put it aside as they stay one step ahead of rebels, bandits, and corrupt government officials. The story is pure action, the romance is hot and the main characters are strong and believable. It’s a great stand alone and I wish more of her books were in electronic format.

I love adventure romance! There’s just something about a couple on the run in the jungle and forced to work together to survive that I really enjoy. I usually like a treasure hunting element as well, but while this book didn’t have that, it was still really good.

Ransom and Madeleine are from very different backgrounds and are often at odds with each other. Their bantering was great! Ransom wasn’t my favorite male lead, but he was a good fit for Madeleine.

This book was written in the ‘90s and it’s definitely dated. For example, when boarding an airplane, the flight attendant asks if they would like the smoking or non smoking area of the plane which was just funny to me. There were several things in the book that wouldn’t happen nowadays but that didn’t affect my enjoyment. In fact, I liked seeing a glimpse of the past.

PS — the blurb is misleading. It says that Ransom and Madeleine had a fling “years ago” but it was actually only six months prior to the events of the book.

THIS WAS MY FIRST LEONE BOOK AND I ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH!

OUR HERO is a badass hunk who knows his way around guns and women. HOWEVER he is not playboy in fact he was infatuated with Maddie right after their one night stand in Montedora and I rather like a change of scene whereby the man is the more emotional one and we get to see his soft side often, how he worries about Maddie, cares for her and becomes a jealous mountain gorilla when other men, especially her so-called fiance Preston is around. Their chemistry was explosive and as much as they fight their attraction, I am just glad they gave in just as fast.

OUR HEROINE is a rich man's daughter and when she fled the bed after an amazing night of sex with a perfect stranger, she became appalled at her own behaviour and scared, she took flight. 6 months later the two meet again and the sizzles in the air are even stronger. As her bodyguard now Ransom and she have to be off limits but shit happens and they are thrown together to depend on each other to survive in the wild and escaping from people who are hunting them down. This gives them the time they need to turn their passionate infatuation into love and get down and dirty in the hovels. Maddie is a strong character who just wants to be loved and accepted for who she is despite her ice princess mode which is a form of "protection". Somehow she can never be that person in front of Ransom and her true self emerges around him.

OVERALL it was passionate, sweet and action packed. There was no fault I could find with this story and makes me optimistic to read more of Leone's books.

This is my second Laura Leone book - having read Falling from Grace a few weeks ago. This book was so very different, but think I liked it even better. I give this book 4.5 stars. I loved the characters. Their development was really nice. The story had a bit of suspense and the author did a nice job of developing this in the story. All in all, a really nice story. I'll read this one again and I'll read more by this author when the story appeals and the price is right.

If you like good character development in a story and a bit of suspense with a military "twist", this may be a good book to check out. I have a Nook and found it for $2.99, so very nice story at a good price.

Happy Reading!

Great plot, especially for a romance. Good buildup to the love between the two. Fun adventure. Well written. This romance has a lot going for it. 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

On a side note, I don't get all the rough sex. Yes, he's a tough guy, but why have him be so forceful that her head bangs into the wall, which he then ignores cause he's too busy with the sex?! A guy I once knew told me (paraphrasing here) that tough guys are into rough sex. You can't have a tough guy without the rough sex, and that men are brutal by nature. As much as I appreciate the honesty, the confession sickened me. No woman dreams of loving a "wimpy" guy, but I can't be the only woman who finds the idea of rough sex disturbing. Why should you suffer bruises just to have sex?! I really hate that part about the sex scenes in this novel. I don't think it's necessary to give a woman a concussion while having sex with her!! Ugh. 😒

Madeleine is a highly responsible female executive who always acts with propriety. When her flight is cancelled, she is forced to stay an extra day in a run-down hotel in the capital of a poor South American country. She is tired, depressed, and lonely. Ransom, a former Secret Service agent turned security specialist, is also tired and lonely but also fed-up after finishing up a month of improving the President’s security in the same capital city. When he sits down beside her in the hotel bar where she is drinking more than she normally drinks, they find a mutual attraction. She decides that for once in her life to live for the day and she spends a passionate night with him. Next day she sneaks away without even giving her name.

Months later, she must go back to the country which is now tottering on the brink of a revolution. Unbeknownst to her, her father has hired Ransom to be her body guard. They both had been thinking a lot about the other—she with longing, he with anger at the insult of her sneaking off but also with longing. They are caught off-guard when Madeleine’s father brings her in to meet Ransom.

On their trip, they both are determined to fight the attraction but they like each other so well it is difficult to keep their distance from each other. Then civil unrest breaks out and they must escape together when their lives are in danger. The rest of the story is about the dangers they must face and the growing emotional attachment they feel for each other. At some point each saves the other’s life more than once. They both change—she realizes she needs to stop being so perfect. He grows into the idea of making a lifelong commitment to someone.

I found the story line and characters to be refreshing--I thought the H and h were better than the usual stereotypes. We know, of course that there will be a HEA but we can’t predict their adventures and dangers so it keeps you turning pages. I really like that. And there is a lot of well-written emotion. I also really like that the story is more complex than just sexual attraction.

May 2019-ive re read this book and I can understand the high score I gave it. Maddie seems fragile but through Ransom's point of view she carries so much strength and beauty. Their interactions after meeting again were funny and sexually charged. I felt Ransom's intense feelings for her. Great a second time around.

Excellent story. From the beginning you could see Maddie and Ransom had amazing chemistry. The author knew how to create that sexual tension and angst. The conversations and plot had a natural flow. I especially enjoyed reading the scene where they are in the store and Maddie gets up to save Ramson. Their reaction afterwards is priceless.
Goddamn you, Maddie! You could have been killed!" He shook her hard, his fingers bruising her arms, and shouted, "Are you out of your mind? You could have been killed, damn you!"
Breathless, dizzy, frightened, furious, and in pain, she hauled off and hit him. As hard as she could. A solid, open-handed smack right across his face.
In a tone she had never before used, she cried, "So could you, you idiot! How dare you risk your life like that! How dare you scare me like that! How could you... Don't you... I..." Her voice broke.

I loved that she gave as much as she got. She wasn't hiding behind him weak and scared. She did what she had to do to save him.

Fever Dreams is a fast-paced action/adventure romance. The pacing of the action plot was especially well done, building steadily throughout the book until the reader is on the edge of her seat. The situations and the characters' reactions to them were mostly believable and realistic. Leone also does a great job describing the countryside, the people, and the political situation in the fictitious South American country during a rebellion.

Ransom and Madeleine were both flawed but likeable characters. Even with the miscommunications and false steps in the beginning of their relationship, both characters come across as somewhat vulnerable and innately honorable people. Though they spent time sparring, I enjoyed the couple getting to know each other and felt the romance was very satisfying. One love scene didn't work for me, due to Ransom's injuries and the setting, but that wasn't a major flaw.

I've also read Fallen from Grace by the same author and can recommend that book as well. My husband has enjoyed several of the book Leone has written as Laura Resnick.

I just loved this love story between a bodyguard and the rich, but working, responsible heroine. It was romantic, and passionate with a very entertaining action and escape plot.
HERO is a Warrior, protective, sexy, who had a one-night stand with a woman he hasn't been able to forget. She left without even telling her her name but then he's hired to protect her on a trip to a dangerous third-world country.

The descriptions of Maddie were sooooo redundant (and plentiful), that I got sick of it before it really got going. Which is too bad, because I probably would have liked it more under different circumstances.

This was an amazing book and loved both the main characters. The story was great and I loved how Maddie was so strong and is the one that saved Ransom in so many ways. ♥♥♥
