More than just the absolute basics but not quite as complicated as the more advanced candlestick patterns. This book is perfect for learning to identify what candlesticks to use WITH a system for better entries and exits. Using the tools in this book increased my success rate in my backtesting by nearly 15%. Highly recommend this to anyone who is trying to put the finishing touches on an already successful charting system.
In the last book I'd read about the candlesticks, but in this book, I read not only about the candlesticks but the patterns, when they occur, when they are exact when they are not.
The earlier book was a little vague one, however, this book explained many things in detail with a lot of examples, graphs, charts.
The book starts with the different types of the candlesticks, progressing ahead with the patterns, which are quite necessary to confirm if the candlestick is following the rule or not.
It's also important to note that in this book, there are no real-life company examples, so that's the thing I didn't like about the book, however, the overall understanding was easier and quite helpful.
It's a helpful book for traders, especially for amateur traders.
Do read this book if you're into trading business.
Comprehensive intro to candlesticks and their implications. Use of tests to help drive home the material, which is a good idea, but a real pain on Kindle. Frequent needs to scroll back dozens of pages to re-read questions and check answers. Some charts are at 90 degree and hard to switch back and forth with text. Really wish I had spent my money on the hard copy. Would have been much easier to use the first time through and very much better to use as an ongoing reference. Lack of easy navigation on Kindle is a real problem. In my humble opinion this book should not even be offered on Kindle - it just is too hard to use.
Oldy but goldy, if you do the work. Easy to follow the subject that slowly builds via 6 chapters. If your not new to the subject of japanese candles and how to read them, just skip to the last two that bring it all together. Some digital versions are missing pages or have charts in really bad resolution, making it hard to discern candle shadows and their length.
Not like the Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns. This takes into account much more than backtested probabilities. It tries to teach you to read the unbiased story that candles are telling you.
Great read for those who want a more in-depth analysis on candlesticks. It was helpful for me to see the questions. This is boring stuff though. I had trouble keeping my focus but the questions helped me reread the material. I’m going to keep this one so I can reread it again in the future.
Steve Nison provides a very thorough outline of candlestick charting in this book. It’s well known that Mr. Nison exposed the West to this type of chart and you can tell he’s deeply versed in its history and various applications. The tests at the end of each chapter do a good job of helping one retain the information.
The text itself was about as useful than many of the YouTube videos on the same topic. The end of chapter quizzes were actually useful though I expect the right online quizzes could be similarly/more useful.
Would recommend to someone who wants to learn about candlesticks but likes books more than online content.
This gives you background on how investing came to exist as it is currently in america. You may not stay within his umbrella of products and tools. But he does give you a deeper dive at the foundation.
it's really a goodbook for a newcomer, i love how there is an multiples choice of question on every ch, it really help me to learn better, oh and the last essay questions is also superb, i really recommended this book for those who want to learn cs.
A great book to understand the basics of candlesticks and the logic behind the trade. It had been a long time since I stopped trading and this book was like a breath of fresh air. A definite read for a beginner.
Technical analysis widely used in pretty much every trading instruments, it teaches you about almost everything you need to know about candlestick charts.
What I like about this book is that it actually describe the market psychology behind candle shapes and patterns. Very nice explanation, easy to read, complete with exercises.
This book is a great place to start learning about candlesticks. It is very easy to understand and does a good job introducing candlesticks and common patterns to beginners.
Hm. This is a tough on. Two opposing camps for investing - technical investors vs probabilities investors. The thing with technical investors is that it doesn't really matter if you believe in it - what matters is that everyone ELSE does, so it becomes a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. So, best to know what everyone else is thinking, hm? A simple easy to understand technical guide to Japanese candlestick charts. Not for beginners. Read Technical Analysis for Dummies first. Yes, really.
I received this as a Christmas gift. This is a nice refresher course in reading candlesticks. If you're new to candlestick charting, a better first book would be his Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques.
My start in charting was with the standard western 'open-high-low-close' bar charts. It wasn't until I learned candlesticks that I felt comfortable making investment decisions. Candlesticks are a very visual mode of reading the market.
Because this book teaches you investing, it is quite technical. But it does a good job of breaking up the text by asking the reader to answer questions that review what you've just read. If you want to learn the technical side of investing, and don't rely on Candlesticks exclusively, this can help your investments grow faster than any index fund.
Like this book, intro to candlestick chart reading. Like the chapter once everything is introduced, you have a chapter to read the stock chart bit by bit and apply what Steve introduced. Will practice it myself.
I really needed this book. It is written in short chapters with quizzes at the end. For dry information, I need the quizzes to keep me into it. I would give it more stars if it had more patterns.
