The role of a math coach is demanding and often undefined. In this edited collection, veteran math coaches share their expertise, providing glimpses into the unique trials, false starts, and successes they have faced in their positions. The authors ask and answer such questions as What makes an effective math coach? and What pitfalls do math coaches encounter and what can they do about them?
This is a phenomenal book for the new-to-coaching math coach. At first I thought that with my unique situation, many of these stories and pieces of advice wouldn't apply to me, but they do. These are real scenarios in not-so-pretty school districts, and still they are success stories. Read it, and then reread it. Highlight the parts that really speak to you, and when you're having an off day, go back and read it again. It helps.
