“I was mainlining my modem connection. Some people snort the Internet but I plugged it right into a vein. Very dangerous but all the big girls living on the techno-edge play with injectable Internet.” That’s how Paige Elliot described her life. She was living in a virtual world until she yanked the plug out of the wall, disconnected herself from the cyberworld and left New York City for the Catskills.
Going cold turkey from her computer addiction is much harder than she would have imagined. Paige experiences deep withdrawals and finds herself trying to score some computer time from her neighboring antique dealer on Main Street, the very attractive Jonathan “Blue is his color and he knows it” Macklin.
In Kanah Springs, there's such a collection of eccentrics, Paige looks positively normal by comparison. With nowhere left to turn, Paige must make a go of her shop, Nothing Serious, which sells urban reclamation fountains among other objets d'art. Once she can breath evenly after adapting to the crisis of having no email, she's able to discern how truly appealing Jonathan is. By then Paige has nearly nailed her hand to the store's facade in an attempt to get her sign up and has traded for the use of nearly every tool in Jonathan's store with offerings of blueberry muffins.
When Paige's extensive knowledge of fine art comes into play at an auction and she spots a rare portrait, she must borrow money from Jonathan to pay for it. Unfortunately the million plus dollars Paige gets for the lost masterpiece, is used to bail out a local character who spells his name with no vowels and who hacked into the computer of a data mining company. The thirty five hundred dollars is a far cry from Jonathan's split and he thinks he's been had. Paige has to scramble to make everything right knowing she loves Jonathan dearly and so deeply the only way she can communicate the emotion is to return to her fine arts roots and paint again.
Paige has been treating life, her art and love as nothing serious for so long, can she change in time to be with Jonathan?
This is a darling book filled with humorous situations, misunderstandings, and quirky characters. While there was some romance, it was very minor and I would have liked to have seen more--just a few more sweet, clean kisses.
Paige is a woman who is so addicted to her electronic devices and social media, she doesn't know how to converse in the real world. After being jilted by an online potential love interest on a dating site, she literally rips the modem out of the wall and runs away to a small, historic town. She assumes way too much and jumps to too many conclusions, which leads to a lot of funny situations.
Jonathan is a good guy, yet hesitant and suspicious by nature. He likes to live his life behind the scenes and low-key and Paige is constantly throwing a wrench into those plans.
I love the supporting characters as well--Bon, Maddie, and a mysterious man.
Witty dialogue, fun storyline with a little mystery involved, in a unique setting.
First I will say that this book was cute, adorable, and had a clean sort of heartwarming effect. I liked the way that the main character, Paige, was so electronic that she didn't know how to talk to people. I think in this day and age we all forget the telephone and going to meet someone and use face time, skype and instant message instead. When she had enough Paige Elliot unplugged her NYC life and opened a magazine and picked the place that she could afford to live. She follows her heart to Kanah Springs and encounters real people, makes real friends, finds Jonathan Macklin and follows through on her dream of owning a store.
The book is very PG rated and will appeal to a great audience. I may even label it chick lit aside from contemporary romance, but that is my opinion. You should check out the author below she has several other books.Click on the giveaway button on my sidebar to WIN a copy!(www.readingrenee.com)

It really is nothing serious...but this " smart romance" by Barbara Morgenroth will start you off chuckling a nd leave you laughing out loud. As usual, her characters are endearing and quickly given depth with snappy dialogue an d philosophical musings. I You may not discover the meaning of Life ( after all, it's nothing serious), but you will be tempted to ponder some of its eccentricities. Enjoy this smart romance for people too smart to read formula romances!
Today's world with all the technology can become your whole life. Dating on line can consume you as well. Read this charming book and find out how one well educated young women dealt with her world that she had lost control of. Pack up and move to a small town. It takes some getting used to after New York. She finds what she has wanted to do with her life and find her love. Good characters and fresh story.
A really great story, plenty of fun, great verbal sparring, love the characters and the whole thing. Problem was parts of the story kept being repeated. Surely editing could gave been done better? Apart from that it was excellent. I loved it.
If you ignore the way that part of chapter 15 repeated twice and part of another chapter repeated once, this was a good story. The characters were quirky and I liked seeing Paige finding her way. The espionage part was unexpected, but still this was good.
Declaring freedom from the internet and the city, Paige Elliott heads for the Catskills. Opening a shop, Nothing Serious, Paige nearly nails her hand to the wall trying to hang her sign, avoids zoning board jail and falls for Jonathan Macklin, the antiques dealer next door. She spots a rare portrait at an auction, and borrows money from Jonathan to buy it. The windfall for the lost masterpiece is used to bail a local character out of jail. When Paige can’t pay Jonathan back, he thinks the worst. She has been treating life, her art and love as nothing serious for so long; can she change in time to be with Jonathan?
Nothing Serious is a fun, entertaining read, filled with likeable, quirky characters who keep the plot moving nicely along. Paige is the kind of heroine you could share good conversation with, over coffee and doughnuts, in the local diner. In Kanah Springs, Ms Morgenroth has brought us a town, filled with cute festivals and unique inhabitants.
I found Ms Morgenroth to possess a smooth sense of humour which shone through in her writing. Through the use of character conversations, the author allows her sense of fun and comedy to reach the reader, in a gentle and personal manner. The story follows Paige and her swift move to a new town, where mishaps and misunderstandings seem to follow her like a lost puppy. Throughout it all however, our heroine manages to shine.
As Paige battles her internet cold turkey and the confines of her tiny shower cubicle, she finds it a struggle to come to terms with life in a small town. Her attraction to Jonathan Macklin however seems to go some way to easing her woes. But with a huge misunderstanding over money, the reader begins to wonder if Paige will manage to turn things around and finally get her man. If you enjoy a swift moving story line, filled with wit and banter, then Nothing Serious is worth taking a peek at.
Nothing Serious by Barbara Morgenroth was a hilarious adventure from being connected to modern society via computers to being completely without.
Paige has had it with online dating dating, she has had it with guys in general. She thinks they are all liars and she wants to get away from everything. So she finds a rental she can afford in the classifieds, packs up her apartment and leaves without a word to anyone, even her employer.
When Paige arrives at her new house, a very small cabin, she finds two keys. One is to the cabin and the other key is to another rental space in the downtown business district that will house her new shop. She does not have a name for that shop until Jonathan, another business owner comes in to check it out. He asks her what she has here, and she replies, it's nothing serious. He compliments her on the name, and then leaves. from there on out, Nothing Serious becomes the name of the shop.
In Paige's shop, she makes art out of junk, and fountains out of what she finds. She loves creating, but is unsure that her business will make it. She gives herself some time to try it, and she gets to know her business neighbor, Jonathan. From the first time they try and talk, and Paige can't make a decent sentence come out of her mouth, to the first time she insists she has to use a computer Jonathan and Paige will steal your hearts and draw you into their world in Kanah Springs leaving you enchanted and wanting more.
I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion. I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars
The book wasn't edited very well. I kept stumbling upon words and phrases that didn't make sense. After I finished reading the book, I went online to see if the author maybe wasn't a native English speaker and was stunned to learn that she apparently wrote many more books. I would have expected more from a multiple published writer The story was weak and badly executed. One of these books where the writer seems to think, lets give the reader lots of romantic emotions and try to get away with illogic writing
I really liked Nothing Serious it was light hearted ans fun ro read! I found it to be easy and some nice twists! The main character Paige is a bit fun and flakey she runs away from New York city to a small town and opens up a shop her next door neighbor Jonathan gorgeous built and single and he doesn't seem to like Paige at first but she grows on him. You must read to get the full effect! Loved this book!
So I really enjoyed this book. I will say the synopsis was a bit misleading. Jonathan just seemed hot and cold not that he mistrusted Paige at least til the end when he said he didn't. I thought Paige was hilarious there were times I actually laughed out loud. Jonathan did have his moments of kindness but he was pretty grumpy overall. This was a good book and I would definitely recommend it.
In "Nothing Serious" by Barbara Morgenroth, we find Paige, a "New York kinda gal" who chucks it all and runs away to the Catskills. There she opens a little store, meets a few interesting people, falls in love, gets arrested..... Wait a minute here; let me catch my breath. This is a cute little story, a fun read. Nice going, Barbara. Thanks.
Quick, engaging read. From its quaint setting to its quirky characters, mild yet pervasive conflicts and satisfying resolution, this book would make a hit of a romantic comedy flick!
