In this apocalyptic technothriller, Walter Williams finds himself working for a secretive paramilitary corporation in pursuit of radical revolutionaries in British Columbia. After an ill-fated capture attempt, the activists unleash their attack and much of western civilization crumbles as strange demonic imagery is drenched across television and the Internet. In the wake of this devastation Walter Williams struggles to find his family and prepare for what's coming next.
I really enjoyed the ecomancer. Some characters were more fleshed out than others, but the ones you're supposed to really care about, you care about. The villain was understandable, but still definitely the bad guy. You won't find a lot of moral ambiguity in the primary conflict, but there is in the smaller conflicts and plots. Until about the middle, I thought this was going to be a typical thriller plot with sudden escalation of stakes, the protagonist making it personal, then dramatic showdown and resolution. I won't spoil what happens, but what happens later on was very unexpected and made sure I finished.
