The heiress to a political dynasty, Desiree Lawson is more interested in tossing her hat in the ring than in playing the field. But when Desiree's twin decides to play matchmaker in order to find her a suitable date, the serious-minded senator's daughter has a change of heart. Spence Hampton is a charismatic Baton Rouge playboy who is famous for his amorous exploits. He's also the man Desiree has secretly desired for years and when the opportunity presents itself, she knows it's time to take a chance.
Forced to love and admire Desiree from afar, Spence finally has his chance to be with the stunning Louisiana sister. Their first date is beyond his most passionate fantasies. With everything finally going their way, can he convince the reticent beauty that his playboy days are over and become the top candidate for her heart?
I enjoyed this story. I liked Desiree's character; although she came from money and was a part of the "Elite" Baton Rogue society; she was as dowb to earth as the next person. Her twin sister Dominique on the other hand worked my last nerve. She was always trying to manipulate people according to what she wanted. She made a deal with her sister Desiree that she would find her a "Good Man" within sixty days because she wanted her sister to be happy; which indeed backfired because the man she tried to hook Desiree up with was a CRAZY, ARROGANT, STALKING HOTT MESS.
Desiree has been secretly pinning away for Dominiques best friend Spence. The funny thing is; Spence has been pinning away for Desiree for years as well. Finally Spence makes up his mind to pursue Desiree because the thought of Dominique setting her up on blind dates doesn't sit well with him and Spence decided that it was now the time to pursue the woman that he loves.
Desiree and Spence have had secret crushes on each other for the longest. Desiree thinks Spence and her twin sister Dominique have a thing going, and Spence thinks Desiree is just not interested. When they finally speak about how they feel for each other, there's no putting the flame out for this budding romance. The only problem is, since Dominique and Spence are such good friends, will Dominique have a problem with it? Will she feel like her sister has taken something away from her? Can she allow her sister and her friend to have the love they've always wanted? Read: April 2016
Love triangle.. so many interesting parts. You have familiarity and unspoken truths. Desiree having set in the shadows of her twin sister Dominique. Interesting parallel. As Dominique is close friends to Spencer, the man who Desiree longs for. As good intentions go they are not without consequences. Follow the journey of Desiree and Spence as they come from out of the shadows and discover what lies beneath their relationship.
Des and Spence story is so familiar to so many. Loving someone in secret can eat you up alive mere speculation can drive you crazy all those years wasted on others is insane. Thank goodness Spence chose to take that chance it worked😘😘😘😘😘😘 Dom is going to be the sister needed to support them!
I loved the love story of Desiree and Spence. Add a little bit of Michelle and Dominique, and Max made this a very great story. I recommend this book to everyone who loves romance novels.
Book 2 and I’m on a roll. I truly love this Lawson family of Louisiana. The passion that Desiree and Spence shared for each other for years was breathtaking. On to book 3. There’s always something romantic about a love story with a bag guy and a knight -n- Shinning armor. Breathtaking!
I swear Dominique need to go sit down somewhere. Like focus on your own life and not everyone else's. And what did she mean by she loved Spence? You can go hoe around buy he can't have anyone?!
An excellent read. I enjoyed her romance most because they were upper class people. It shows no matter how much money you make, having someone love you back is priceless.
Sometimes loving someone from a distance can prevent you from giving your heart to someone else. Such is the case with Desiree (“Desi”) Lawson, twin sister to Dominique (“Dom”), who has been in love with Spence Hampton for a long while. But she was afraid to pursue her desire because of Dom’s relationship (which was never clearly defined to her) with Spence. So, she decided it would be best to move on and agreed to a blind date orchestrated by Dom with Max DeLaine, a college professor from a prominent family.
Spence has seen Desi out with Max and thought that it killed his chance to tell her how he truly felt. But when Max turned out not to be too stable (showing up at Desi’s office and at her home uninvited), Dom gets wind of it and confides in Spence. It was then that Spence decided to bypass the platonic phase with Desi and tell her how he truly felt.
This story was sexy, filled with great dialogue and with delicious meals (Spence is a chef) that could fly off the pages - yummy. The characters were not one dimensional (crazy knows no bounds or family status) and full of surprises too (Desi was a race car driver which she kept a secret from her family – I wanted to see this explored some more though).
Anyway, Spence is definitely a man any woman would fall for (sexy, successful and well grounded), but he only had eyes for Desi and she only had eyes for him. And no one could come between that. I was happy they were able to get together – great power couple!
A must read!
Some of my favorite lines: They pulled up to a light. He turned to her. “Now that I finally have you with me, I don’t intend to waste one minute apart.”
The heat in his eyes played over her face. Her entire body tingled.
“That cool with you?”
All she could do was nod her head to make sure she didn’t stir herself from this incredible dream she was having.
i really enjoyed desi and spence's story. this is the second book i've read by this author (and the second in the series), and i really appreciate her realistic dialogue and scenes. i know there's a certain level of "fru-fruness" and "perfect endings" associated with romance.... that's what makes them romance. but this author accomplishes it without making me roll my eyes. i'd love it if she would apply more character development, but i realize that would make the novels quite a bit longer and maybe that's not what she was after. but this makes for a quick, enjoyable read!
The Lawaon twins are total opposites, Domn is a controll freak and wants to run her twins life as well as her brothers life. Desi just want to be left alone and happy.
This is the 2nd book in the Lawasons of Louisiana series.
I just didn't like it. I couldn't feel the sparkle between the character. This is my 2nd book that I read by Donna Hill, that I ddidn't like. I'm sure it's because the stories of Kimani Romance are so short that you don't really get a chance to feel the chemistry come off the page.
I want a love like Desiree and Spence... Someone who I have been loving from a distance so when it comes together spontaneously boom! This novel had friendship, romance, suspense. There was even a villian that just wouldn't go away. Having read many of this families novels, i'm hooked.
The longing Desiree and Spence had for each other was mutual, yet a secret. Neither knew for a while. I did find it improbable that 3 different women mooned over Spence. Really?
Loved how Desiree and Spence where both attacted to each other and didn't have the courage to come out with it. This was an excellent love story. Can't wait for the rest of the Lawson's.
This is the 2nd book in the Lawson of Louisiana series. It is a very good and short read. I am enjoying this series. Ms. Hill has done it again. Looking forward to the next one.
