Dichtung = condensare: 12.1.2010 to 1.6.2011 tasked with accounting for the interval November 19, 1955 - July 11, 2010, the dates of the poet’s father life (& the last in the book). So the “eos” starts out with its face already to the sunset, and the “yo” is to dawn, yes, but also the missing “you” (u) whose end begins the project. “To be alive/while you’re alive/turns out to be a taller order than/expected,” especially under such exacting temporal conditions, the attention to the moment weighed against an awareness of how deep its roots go, how far the mind must wander to “make a transcript of its travels”: “my projects change in form thru time/by dint of what has dented them”; or, in the “fastfood sack” vernacular of our time, “I’m all mud, man.”
