From Wall Street Journal and #1 Amazon bestselling author Winter Renshaw comes a fast-paced, emotional romance about what happens when the wrong twin falls for the right man.

Being an identical twin has its perks, but when my sister asked me to sub in for a date with Roman Bellisario, I wasn’t exactly thrilled. Sure, he’s sinfully handsome and successful, but he also got me fired from my dream job three years ago.

This time, my sister’s promotion is riding on this date, so I have to say yes. And as it turns out, we’re strangely perfect for each other. I sell art. He collects it. We’re both obsessed with the same obscure, mysterious artist that most people don’t even know exists.

Roman is guarded, though, and I can understand why. He’s a widowed single dad. But as one date leads to another, he starts to let me in, and I can’t help but fall for him.

The problem is Roman still thinks I’m my sister. Is our twin swap going to be the best thing that ever happened to me and Roman—or the lie that tears us apart?

ARC REVIEW

DNF (did not finish) at 50%.

This story of a twin swap mishap plot looked promising at first but it slowly fizzled out. It was so hard to connect to the characters because their defining traits kept changing from chapter to chapter. The characters had zero depth or quality to them. One minute we have a bereaved husband who couldn't get over his wife and who is a dotting father of two girls and the next he's calling his babysitter to take care of his girls for the night because he is about to get some with a girl he went out on 4 dates? How does this emotionally make sense? The twin sister also slowly started turning sour who initially was this perky ball of sunshine. Even the dual POV chapters had no proper beginning or end. They are too short and before you can even get used to the way one character is thinking bam new chapter. The plot is designed to have no flow or ease, no connection, and no sequence. She has also conveniently designed the plot around how much time the lead couple can spend time with each other so if we are told that the characters are planning a Saturday night date, a scene is put on Friday just for the sake of showing that they planned a date. This hot and cold thing can't be ignored. The conversations, romance, and later the sex scene all turned out so bland because like I said there was no sequence of setting, it happened too quickly and there was no time to even savor their relationship.
I'm sorry but this book was not for me.

"You or Someone Like You" is a delightful contemporary romance that provides a refreshing break from emotionally intense reads. Although I usually gravitate towards angsty romances, this straightforward love story captivated me from start to finish. I found myself so invested in the story that I finished the book in just two days.

The characters of Sloane and Roman are well-crafted and relatable. As adults, they make decisions that are realistic and understandable. I enjoyed how the author took the time to develop their relationship gradually, allowing them to get to know each other before diving into a romantic involvement. Roman is a wonderful single dad, and his love for his late wife and his daughters shines through in his character. Sloane is a supportive and understanding partner who complements Roman perfectly.

Surprisingly, the third-act breakup didn't bother me, and the resolution felt authentic and satisfying. Overall, "You or Someone Like You" is a light and fun contemporary romance that readers will breeze through in no time. I highly recommend this book to fellow romance lovers.

The whole twin swap trope isn't my favorite, I'll admit. But I give books with that plot a fair chance if the synopsis sounds good. After all, this one had a single dad and what could be better than a hero who takes care of his kids? What annoys me though and makes me knock off a star or two is when the deception goes on for most of the book, which was the case with this book.

Roman doesn't find out about the twin swap until about 90-95% into the book. By that point, I'm just growing irritated and hating Margaux for her selfishness. I really thought Roman should have made Sloane work harder to earn his trust back. He got over it way too easily to be believable.

I enjoyed Sloane and Roman as a couple. I liked their characters, although I thought Sloane lacked a backbone when it came to her twin Margaux. I liked that they shared a love of art and really got each other. I loved that Roman was a doting father to his two little girls. And I even love that the author didn't make this all about Roman's wife who died tragically. But in the end, did Roman REALLY know Sloane if she was pretending to be her perky and always needs to be perfect twin sister? I have my doubts and that's why I can't rate this higher. The author went from discovering the twin swap to them being married in just a few chapters and I feel like we really missed out on reading about how their relationship developed after the make up.

This book was slow and a bit boring. I think Sloane waited too long to tell Roman the truth. And I hated her twin sister.

“If life was an unreliable narrator, Margaux Sheridan is my plot twist.”

Being an identical twin certainly has its perks, but when my sister asked me to take her place on a date with Roman Bellisario, I wasn’t exactly thrilled. While Roman might be everything a woman could want, he’s unfortunately the man who got me fired from my dream job a few years ago. It’s supposed to be one date and nothing more. But what happens when the wrong twin falls for the right man?? Find out in You or Someone Like You.

Sloane has the biggest heart and would do anything for her sister. And well, that’s how she ended up in her current predicament. If Sloane and Roman met under normal circumstances, all bets would be off. Despite Sloane’s history and preconceived notions, Roman is her perfect match. Unfortunately for Sloane, they’re not meeting under normal circumstances as Sloane is pretending to be her twin sister, Margaux.

That brings us to Roman. When we first met up with Roman, I just knew the date between him and “Margaux” would end in disaster. Roman was grumpy and aloof and certainly didn’t want to be on this date. So imagine my surprise when fate kept throwing Sloane and Roman together. Slowly, Roman’s layers start to peel back and you begin to see that there is so much more to him than meets the eye.

You or Someone Like You is a fantastic read from beginning to end. I think it had just the right amount of drama and spice. The twin swap was such a fun idea and is one of those stories that you know is going to hurt when all the secrets finally reveal themselves.

If I had to make one complaint about this book it would be that the third-act breakup felt a bit rushed. It felt like there was a race to the end and I for one, would have enjoyed a little more groveling from a certain character.

Even with the slight issue at the end, I couldn’t help but fall head over heels for Roman and Sloane’s story.

Pretending to be your twin was fun when you were kids but as an adult that’s just mean on a whole new level. Sloane was trying to be a good sister to Margaux but things got out of hand. The one person she wasn’t suppose to fall for was the one that she was meant to be with.

Roman is a widower that is taking care of his two young girls. When his wife died things were never the same. The colors in his life was gone and the only bright light was his girls. His aunt has always been there for him and his girls so when she sets him up on a date with her employee he goes on the date. Awkward is putting it mildly during the dinner he had with Sloane, but the end of the night things changed a little. Little signs were there for him to see but he didn’t want to believe it. His wife told him that she would find a way to make him happy if anything were ever to happen to her.

As each non-date they had, the connection was real and growing stronger. The love of art is just the tip of the connection. Sloane’s telling it like it is and just being herself is what drew Roman to her. Each layer she peals back she sees a side of him sheds more into the love he has with his wife and how he adores his girls. Being a single parent is hard work as it is and sometime it’s hard to put your trust in others and letting them into your life.

This book is touching, heartbreaking and warms your soul at the same time. Another wonderful book from this author. I don’t know how she does it but each book I read becomes my favorite and I’m never disappointed.

I am always impressed by Winter Renshaw’s range of writing skills. She easily goes from writing sports romances, to suspense, to paranormal, which keeps me on my toes and engaged the entire time. If you are a sucker for romance like I am, then this book will be just your cup of tea.

You or Someone Like You is a standalone where two New Yorkers, who both have a deep affection and understanding of art, serendipitously fall in love. Roman Bellisario is a widower raising two young daughters, and meets Sloane under unusual circumstances. Her twin sister Margoux, isn’t feeling well one evening and asks Sloane to go on a blind date in her place which was set up by her boss. Sloane reluctantly agrees and her date winds up being Roman, NYs elusive hot bachelor and billionaire, and the nephew of Margoux’s boss.

The build and suspense kept me routing for them, even though they were so awkward at first, and are both keeping secrets. He is open and honest about not being ready to move on, only attending the date to appease his beloved aunt, and Sloane states how she is focused on her career and not looking for a relationship.

But there is something about these two and their underlying chemistry, and they can’t stop thinking about each other. They have so much in common, and the ruse must continue as Roman decides date #2 is in the cards.

Sloane had the kindest and most giving heart. She was hard working and not pretentious or impressed by wealth, and Roman could sense she was different from other women. I loved how genuinely excited she was about his art collection, and how they shared the same values and temperament. The author effortlessly weaved the art scene in the storyline, which captivated me and has me interested in learning more.

Sloane’s relationship with Margoux is central to the story as well, and as different truths come to light about her sister’s personality, it isn’t always so pretty, and there is a lot of character development.

I loved how Sloane and Roman organically fell for each other and that their feelings grew with each conversation–in person and on the phone, and time spent together. I loved how protective he was of Sloane and his daughters, and how meeting the right person changed their perspective on life. This book was very hopeful and a slow burn, which was perfect for their storyline and relationship.

When the truth of her identity becomes known, and Roman feels betrayed, I admired Sloane for the way she handled it. People aren’t perfect and the author did an amazing job writing scenes about the power of forgiveness that will tear at your heartstrings.

Roman was not a player, he was devoted to his family, and a successful, smart business man. I loved his relationship with his daughters, and how wise he was to masterfully put clues together and follow his gut to make the best decision for his family. The extended epilogue into the future was exactly what I was hoping for and made my heart happy.

Margaux was set up on a blind date by her boss, and she does not want to let her boss down because there is a promotion up for grabs. But when she falls ill she asks her identical twin Sloane to meet the man, just make it a boring date that will go nowhere. Roman is a widowed single father of two girls and he's not very keen on dating anyway, as he still misses his late wife Emma like crazy. So Sloane and Roman have an awkward first date but when her keychain reminds him of his past and he is sure that it's a sign. A sign of what, that is less certain. Roman and Sloane connect over their common art interests, and as they grow closer Sloane grows more and more uncomfortable with the deception which goes on far too long. (New rule: tell the guy who you are before you sleep with him.) But Margaux is still not sure of her promotion and makes it all about her, so Sloane starts figuring out that Margaux is pretty deep steeped in selfishness. The plot felt well familiar but I liked the characters and the story kept me engrossed and I enjoyed this a great deal.

LOVE WHO YOU LOVE

“… some blue-eyed, blonde-haired, bubbly fun time girl who would pull me out of my shell and usher me back into the world of the living… blondes have never been my type. And I love my shell – it’s impenetrable.”

There are always signs and coincidences in life and romance, if we’d only pay attention. Sloane isn’t who Roman thinks she is and that’s the catalyst for a romance of deception. An adult twin swap? Bring it on. What could go wrong on a blind date between an identical twin and a grumpy widower who dislike each other on sight? Just about everything … complicated by the lie of Sloane’s true identity. It starts out harmless enough with Sloane forced to take her twin’s place on the date with a simple mission: nip any chance for a 2nd date with Roman Bellasario in the bud. Roman turns out a real dish, while smart, introverted, and kind Sloane isn’t the frivolous airhead he expected from Margaux’s public reputation. Fate keeps throwing curveballs and signs that cause a change of heart and Roman wants a 2nd date. So does Sloane. Let the games begin. Wait, what? Roman still thinks that Sloane is Margaux …

The courtship begins, but how can Sloane keep dating Roman by pretending to be her twin while lying to her twin about continuing to date him? Oh, the irony.

This slow-burn love story has some cards stacked against it in the charade. Still, their connection is real and full of heart, depth, past histories … and conundrums about forgiveness and moving on from the past. Not only is Sloane a woman of substance, but Roman is a catch as a loving dad. Their journey of him moving on to love again and discovering it in Sloane is sighworthy. I love the concept of mistaken identity and twin swap mixed together, especially when the conceit is two strangers who aren’t supposed to be attracted to each but actually are, the guy thinks the girl is someone else, and she doesn’t confess the charade while deluding herself that the romance isn’t real.

He’s a notoriously elusive art collector and she’s an art dealer, but pre-judging each other forces them to dig beneath the surface of who they assume each other to be. It’s fascinating watching them uncover that each is more than their surface identities and fall in love from all the things they share in common. There’s plenty to overcome for them though. When love begins with a lie, a predictable reckoning ahead is bound to happen with some fessing up on both sides before this romance has a real shot. This one ends with a bang and pulls out all the feels in a grand, romantic gesture to match the groveling of grovels.

WR always keeps me fully engaged in her MCs and their fascinating storylines which are much more complicated than expected with some dishy reveals. Whether you agree with Sloane’s reasons for continuing the charade so long, the couple’s chemistry is undeniable and the way the story plays out was swoony. An adult twin swap has never been more romantic and deceptive at the same time, with building angst, undeniable love, and an attention-grabbing resolution. There’s so much to this ticking time bomb and to learn about Roman and Sloane that compels interest with a bit of heartbreak, even as love blooms.

Thank you to publisher, NetGalley and author for copy of the book for honest review.

Initial thoughts:

The ending of this book definitely bumped up my rating and feels on this one. I freaking love the ending between Sloan standing up to her sister, Roman the sister, Romans, romantic, epic gesture, and then romantic night, that he set up for Sloan and himself. Plus, he was just great in finding out the truth about Sloan after he got over his initial anger, which I really appreciated. Then he just went over the top with his loving gestures, and I love that so much.

Review:

As I was reading this book, I was a little iffy about it. Not because this romance trope of twins, switching places hasn’t been done in romance before, but in this instance, I didn’t like it for a couple different reasons.

One, Sloan’s sister was just a jerk, and I hated her for all of the book. She was selfish and self-centered and narcissistic and really guilt tripped Sloan throughout the entire book. And she had the nerve to blame Sloan when things went completely wrong in this scenario, which phone was just trying to help in order for her sister to get the promotion even to the detrimental of Sloan herself. I just hate it so much and I hated that Sloan was put into the situation because of her sister in the first place. Her sister wasn’t even grateful and it just was so bad.

Secondly, I didn’t like it because of how this was playing a game with Roman, who had been very much not felt alive since his wife died years ago in the past. His grief and depression was very much felt in the very beginning when he had his blind date with Sloan. It was very clear that he didn’t want anything to do with Sloan or dating in general because he was still grieving for his wife. It was so sad. It broke my heart to know that as he was getting to know, Sloan, and slowly living again because of Sloan that it was going to buy him in the butt once he learned about the sister switch. Just to see his transformation, and how much he cared about Sloan, and was falling for her and enjoying the camaraderie and connection with her was beautiful, but knowing it was going to come to a screeching halt, was just some thing I dreaded. He had every right to feel what he felt when he found out and I don’t blame him for breaking a little inside after he finally felt he could move on in his life and with Sloan that he had such a great connection with and things in common with their love of art. It was just very hard to read when revelations came in. I hated that they did this to him.

Even though I did feel a little icky about how the romance was playing out between Sloan and Roman, I did really like them together. They had such a sweet connection. I loved when they talked art to each other. They had special moments that surrounded that, and even grand gestures were made with art. And it was just very meaningful to their relationship, which was so beautiful and lovely. It was why they fell in love with each other was because the connection to the art. Plus, there was a little bit of a mystery surrounded the art, which was very interesting, and even though I did eventually figure it out. But that mystery also played in the part of their relationship and their connection even more. I just think they were the perfect pair for each other. And Sloan was really the only one that could bring him back to life which he said something to the effect later on in the book.

By book’s end, I thought it was a solid romance, even though I didn’t like the plot line in general. I liked seeing how Roman and Sloans connection built. I loved them, sharing their love and heart with one another. I really enjoyed seeing his transformation of grief, stricken husband to a man falling in love, and ready to move on with his life. They had some really special moments together. They had some really epic gestures going on that were very romantic. And it was just adorable to see them together.

So much to love about this! First of all, we find out the MMC is a widow and the way the author handles him trying to move forward while still loving and missing his wife was so well done. ❤️

I’m not a huge fan of the mistaken identity/twin swap premise but the way this one was put together had me constantly curious as to how things would play out. The ending felt rushed but that could be because I really didn’t want this one to end. I felt such empathy for both characters and loved their story.

The things we do for love. 😊 I’m looking forward to reading more by Winter Renshaw!

DNF @ 56 pages. This just isn't for me. Contemporary usually isn't but I read this for a book club I'm in. The FMC is incredibly judge-y. The lie/twin swap is frustrating because no boss in the world would fire you if you canceled a date. I just couldn't believe it enough to keep reading.

I'm giving it a 3 because I really didn't like that she was just lying to him the entire time knowing that she had to come clean at some point and the fact that she was just going along with it. I didn't care for that aspect of it.
That being said. I did like the ending and how understanding he is about the sister being a narcissist and seeing the bigger picture.

Listen, I know I've ranted about predictability before but sometimes things just work perfectly. Case in point. We have a twin-swapped plot with a single dad trying to move on. Oh la la. Maturity? What is that? I have none.

I'm sure some of your biggest worries is that how much of a presence (or absence?) is the dead wife in this one. Does this book give the 'second-best-to-first-wife' vibe that plagues us all whenever we see a widower hero tag? Honestly, in my opinion, this book handled it well. I didn't get that sick dreadful feeling in my stomach nor having that urge to scream at the heroine to run away. In fact, I think the author addressed that issue pretty level-headedly, showing the life he had with his previous wife without comparing it with his current love interest.

In fact, except for the switched-up drama, it was pretty lowkey a sweet and comforting read. I enjoyed the hell out of it. One thing that could make it a little bit better would be if we could get scenes where the heroine interacted with the hero's kids. But given the length of the book, and the brief time they fell in love, I guess it made sense.

Anyhow, it's a quick and comfort read for me. Love love love!

In Winter Renshaw's latest standalone romance, You or Someone Like You, it's double the trouble when 27 year old twin sisters revert back to their younger days- one begging the other to trade places, just for one night. Why?? To meet a blind date she agreed to, but has no interest in showing up for herself.

Sloane and Margaux Sheridan may look indentical on the outside, but on the inside, they're nothing alike. They are opposites in every way, just like sunshine and rain. Sloane was definitely the sweeter of the two and reluctantly agrees to this crazy little plan, meeting up with her 'date', the handsome widower, Roman Bellasario. He's not on board with this idea either, but for very different reasons. His well meaning, but meddlesome aunt reeled him in to do her this favor, but is really hoping to force him back in the dating scene again.

In reality, the real Margaux wouldn't have hit it off with Roman at at all, but as Sloane, it's looking like there might be some sort of one of a kind connection. You won't want to miss Winter Renshaw's 'twins with many twists' romance to discover all the details for yourself. Sloane and Margaux's relationship felt like an emotional tug of war a lot of the time, with Margaux often pushing the hardest. Roman going through his everday routine with his precious little girls is a heart melting experience...this sexy single dad becomes even more irresistible and swoonworthy, if that's even possible.

Winter Rensahw's well told stories are always a guaranteed delight for me to read and You or Someone Like you was no exception. I love the wide array of feelings she brings to her stories and the heartfelt emotions she evokes every time I read one. This complex story of a man that didn't want a second chance at love and a woman who was absolutely made for him, was especially poignant and I truly loved the attraction that Sloane and Roman couldn't deny.

4.5 stars: This is my first book by Winter Renshaw and it’s safe to say I am utterly hooked. I loved the premise and the way she executed the tropes but my favorite part were the characters she crafted. A twin-swap for a blind date with a grumpy but softie-at-heart hero? Cue Adele’s “Someone Like You” because I loved this! The hero is a single dad to two adorable little girls who is still grieving his former partner and I loved the way Renshaw explored the concepts of grief and acceptance. While you wouldn’t expect him to share many things with the art-loving heroine, it was beautiful to watch them slowly connect in such a deep manner.

Of course, we have the twin-swap deception to grapple with and that is where my qualms enter. I do wish Renshaw explored this conflict a little deeper because I just did not believe why this deception had to last so long when their love was built on such a beautiful foundation. Without trust however, it wouldn’t be built to last, and I wish there was a stronger reason than our heroine’s selfish sister, to withstand that brutal third-act. With that said, Renshaw’s writing has made a fan out of me and I’m looking forward to what she’s got next in store for us!

It's hard for me to review this story. On the one hand, Roman is a loving father of two girls who touch your heart and Sloane takes her duty as sister to the extreme. After a disastrous and awkward first date, they agree to another try and from there the relationship grows as they realize just how much in common they have. On the other hand, the wrong-twin deception lurks under all of the antics and charm and really takes away from the romance. I enjoyed the journey, the getting to know you activities and the time spent together, but the lengthy deception and the rapid resolution of the betrayal jarred the flow.

Was ok.

I was mostly just in it to read when he found out she wasn’t Margaux (who tf spells Margot like like anyway?!)

The whole side plot about the real Margaux was so overly dramatic she’s PREGNANT and it’s TWINS like why? Unless she has her own book which might be interesting to read.

Middle of book kind of dragged, I wouldve liked to seen her being introduced to his kids or something. And the ONE spicy scene when they’re finished he’s thinking about his babysitter and chauffeur?? Never mind the fact that you just slept with someone for the first time since your wife died? No let’s send Antonio home for the night wtf? Lol

So in the current, heavily- legislated world of work a valued employee's promotion hangs on whether she goes on a date with her boss's nephew??? Especially as said nephew is a widowed millionaire dad of two young girls, being bullied into getting back into dating by his domineering aunt. If the story was set in the early 1900's then maybe this would be a feasible storyline... Gave the book 2 stars as the overall premise was interesting, and l admire anyone who has the imagination and discipline to actually write a book... but it just got too ridiculous to carry on so gave up at 50%. On the upside, devotees of the Mills & Boon type of frothy predictable romance will love it....

Lacklustre

I struggled to connect with this book. While the subject of moving on from heartbreak was well addressed, the characters were flat and one dimensional. The ending felt rushed and there was very little time spent with Roman and Sloane discovering each other as themselves. I found some of the author’s references to anyone born prior to 1990 rather derogatory. If a man treating a woman with respect means that he is from “a simpler generation” and has “old fashioned values” then sign me up. I’m afraid those types of condescending comments really put me off this book.

I wanted to love this but it fell flat. Boring. I found myself not caring what happened to any of the characters. My 2 biggest critiques are that the sisters didn’t have constant personalities and they were also boring/unlikeable. I felt like M’s personality went through at least 2 changes during the story.

I also listened on audio and the narrators made the man totally bland and boring just by their narration, not that the writing was helping much, but they made it worse.

It has recently occurred to me, after seeing some negative reviews about this book, that I believe we experience books differently based on how we’ve experienced life. I say this because if I had read this book a year ago, I would not have liked it at all. The relationship in the story moves quickly. VERY quickly. These two people feel things about each other and click so quickly, and it’s hard to believe for some, and was rated fairly low as a result. I think, to enjoy a book like this, you have to believe there is someone out there you’d immediately click with. Or maybe you’ve already experienced that with someone. But if you haven’t or you don’t believe this kind of thing could happen, you likely won’t even BEGIN to enjoy this story. I, however, really enjoyed this story.

I went into this a little worried because I’m not big on contemporary romance novels, nor do I enjoy the twin swap trope. But it’s Winter Renshaw. The pseudonym of one of my all-time favorite authors. So I felt the need to give it a shot.

I actually received this book from NetGalley back in 2023, but never read it because I didn’t think I would enjoy it, and I LOATHE giving negative reviews. Luckily, I don’t have to. I truly believe the timing was right for this read. In 2023, I likely would have given it 2 stars. Maybe even a DNF. But today, in 2025, I’m giving it 4.5 stars.

I really enjoyed how the characters stayed true to their personalities. Sloane was consistently selfless, Margeaux was consistently self-centered, and Roman was consistently a genuinely good guy who loves his kids and misses his late wife. At no point did any of them do something that didn’t make sense for their character, as I’ve seen some state. I didn’t really see that at all. I saw a story full of hope and light about a man who experienced a great loss and unexpectedly found love again.

“…we can’t always change a situation, but we can always change our attitude toward that situation. Sometimes the best attitude a person can have is simply acceptance.”

I was worried about the plot because I’m severely against the miscommunication trope. This wasn’t that. What I mean by miscommunication is when two characters are having a conversation after a conflict, and all they would have to do is briefly explain, even slightly, for things to be fine. But they don’t. They either refrain or focus on conversation that doesn’t make sense/doesn’t matter. This book did not do that. This book built relationships, reached a crescendo, made me sad and hopeful, and then ended beautifully.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I just read a contemporary romance book about a twin swap situation where the main characters fall hard and fast, and I loved it. If ever this were made into a movie, it would be one of my comfort movies, I’d say. Something akin to how I turn on 27 Dresses or 13 Going on 30 and just vibe.

I definitely recommend this one! It’s a quick and easy read. It’s cozy, cute, heartfelt, and all the things that can pull you out of a reading slump or keep your reading momentum going. I rather enjoyed it!

4.5 out of 5

Winter Renshaw is an autobuy author for me. I don’t understand why I don’t see more buzz about her online as I think she’s excellent; a real buried treasure. Add this one now to the growing pile of books by her that I get a great deal of enjoyment from.

Sloan, our heroine, lives with her identical twin sister Margaux and though they are very similar in looks, they are way different in temperament. The book opens with Margaux pleading with Sloan to take her place on a blind date. Margaux is feeling under the weather but feels pressured to go on the blind date set up between her and her boss’s nephew if she wants a promotion she knows she’s being considered for. Sloan is very reluctant but Margaux ends up getting her way. She tells Sloan to be so boring Roman, the boss’s nephew and blind date won’t want another date. Things are going according to plan, the date is almost painful, until they start talking about art, something they are both passionate about. Sloan e works as an art broker in a gallery and Roman has an amazing art collection. They really click when one painter comes up. The artist doesn’t seem to have painted anything new for a while and he’s very obscure to those not in the art world. Roman is impressed as he’s thinking his date is with Margaux who works for his aunt. Roman knows he wants to see Sloan/Margaux again and Sloan would really like to see Roman except he thinks she’s her sister.

Of course they continue to see each other but Sloan is feeling more and more guilty she’s deceiving him as her feelings for him grow. And as she learns more about him it gets worse.

Roman is a widower who was deeply in love with his wife. They had the perfect life, a deep love for each other, two sweet daughters and wealth. But since he lost his wife his life has been empty and drained of joy. He loves his daughters and is very hands on with them but the ready of his life is joyless. He doesn’t want another relationship and only agrees to go out with Sloane/Margaux to please his aunt. But as he continues to see Sloane, he’s starting to come back to life.

I found this a very emotional book. Seeing Roman begin to enjoy life again is so heartwarming. He’s a wonderful, caring hero. And though I got a bit frustrated with Sloane for going along with her sister even though she knows it’s wrong, she’s still a very likeable person. Those are just the dynamics of their relationship. Margaux demands and because Sloane is easy, thoughtful and wanting to see her sister happy, she bends to often. But other than this small issue, I very much enjoy this book.

I also read the afterword by Winter and found it very moving to the point I was very close to tears. It made me appreciate this book even more and I strongly recommend it.

Winter Renshaw is now my must read author. This book just hit my soul at all the right places. I swear she is a magician with her words. She created the most beautiful and heartaching and heartwarming feels in You or Someone Like You. My heart is so full and forgive me if I sound messed up..because I am! At the end, I was smiling with tears in my eyes. I am overwhelmed with all the sweet raw feels in the best possible way. I do not want to leave Roman and Sloane..can I live in their story forever?

Sloane Sheridan agrees to go on a date pretending to be her twin sister because her sister's boss wants her sister to date her widowed nephew. It turns out that that nephew is Roman Basillero, the most famous and elusive art collector in New York, who got her fired once from the gallery she was working at. He is still grieving his wife and the date was a favor to his aunt. It was supposed to be a one time thing. But something clicks and Sloane finds herself getting tangled in the web of lies with a man she has no business falling for. What will happen when the secrets come out?

It starts with one awkward date between two reluctant people..Sloane standing in for her twin sister and Roman giving in to his aunt's demand. Art was the passion that really opened up their hearts. Roman found himself seeking company of the simple, witty and introspective woman who is nothing like women in the rich people's world. He found her to be refreshing and her passion for art reignited the spark he was missing from life. Sloane had to keep on the charade for her selfish and narcissistic sister’s sake but she was feeling so much guilt. She wanted to hate the man who disrupted her career over a simple mistake but as she comes to know his pain and his loss..she realises he is an extraordinary man with emotional baggage. I loved how this story solely focused on the couple and their growth and evolution. Roman made me swoon so hard! A billionaire single father finding love for life and art again with the most unlikely but deserving woman..all the stars. He is a bit grumpy and brooding and closed off at the beginning but Sloane uncovered the charming man inside who can love so deeply! I was mesmerized as they came closer and closer with every date..as their chemistry reached an epic level..as their hearts got entangled..and then how the heartbreak and angst happened. I am so happy about the way the drama was handled. It was not dragged or complicated but still added to the angst. I am obsessed with this story and Winter Renshaw's writing.

PS Let me know if you guessed who Halcyon is! I DID!

Thank you to NetGalley, Montlake, and Ms. Renshaw for the opportunity to read an ARC of this title. An honest review was requested but not required.

I haven't read anything by Ms. Renshaw before but after this book I think that will change. I was pleasantly surprised by the organic love story happening between two straightforward adults. The female MC, Sloane, is standing in for her identical twin sister, who is being pressured by her boss to go on a date with the boss's nephew. Twin-swapping is a trope I typically don't much care for and while I could understand *exactly* why Margaux didn't want to go but felt she had to, I'm not sure why Sloan had to do it other than Margaux was lazy and avoiding a difficult situation. The female MC, Roman, is a grieving widower with two young children, ALSO a trope I usually dislike. AND it took place in New York city, which I'm not really into as a reader. And yet, the story felt so natural, despite the extremely contrived situation. Sloane and Roman seemed so serendipitous together and so easy to root for.

Plot-wise, I didn't feel that there was much (if any) unnecessary drama. Sloane's choice to conceal her identity and her failure to come clean in a reasonable amount of time provided all the drama you could want. Normally I get irritated by the third-stage breakup but here it was completely warranted. I mean, the girl did LIE. Repeatedly. Frankly I thought she should've worked harder to make amends. And I'm surprised to admit this (because I don't usually love kids in romance novels), but I was actually disappointed that Roman didn't introduce Sloane to his girls at any point in the story proper. I guess things worked out happily for all concerned in the end and that's all we need to know, right? Anyways. I most appreciated the relative maturity of the two main characters, despite Sloan's initial ethical failure, and the positive way in which the author handled Roman's grief and grieving. I highly recommend reading the author's note at the end.

Overall I really did enjoy this a lot and would recommend it. I'll certainly be seeking out more by this author.

When it’s a story about a twin swap to go out with a guy who unbeknownst to the twins has lost his wife to cancer and has two daughters you just know things are going to go downhill at some stage. That dynamic was a knife to my gut.

You or Someone Like You sees Sloane pretend to be her sister Margeaux on a date with Roman. Roman is related to Margeaux’s boss and she thinks by dating him she will have a better shot at a promotion. But she’s sick the night of the date and tells Sloane to go … but not to be interesting, so he won’t want another date.

Aside from Margeaux being a shitty sister and a shitty employee and all-round shitty person, we see Sloane be the complete opposite, where as far as Margeaux is concerned she’s a bit of a doormat. She begins to enjoy spending time with Roman even though there’s a tenuous connection in their past.

What was unique about this book was Roman’s connection with his dead wife, his connection with his kids and prioritising them - and a good look at grief from this guy’s perspective. If you read this authors note at the end you get a glimpse of some of the emotion behind that (real tears flowing in reading that).

I’m not a fan of the twin thing usually as adults … like a grown up freaky Friday or something and Sloane knew against her better judgment that she wasn’t doing the right thing. I still liked the book and their connection, with the possible divine intervention from Roman’s Emma in heaven.

It wasn’t heavy on the sexy times (and maybe might have done with a little more) but I’m sensing the idea was the intellectual nature of their relationship first… though it seemed liked some time they were together though the time jumps were a bit clunky.

Well worth picking up if you like a single dad, little lies that turn into big drama-type scenarios.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
