This was a fun read. I spend way too much time down the rabbit hole of Googling answers to odd and aimless questions, therefore I enjoyed learning tidbits of random knowledge on topics ranging from airplane peanuts to why wood pops and crackles when burned. The book is written in a question and answer style, and also includes a section for unresolved “Imponderables”, or questions of everyday life.

I picked up this book by chance at a garage sale, and it was published in 1990. With that being said, some of the questions and information in this book is a bit outdated (i.e. telephone booths). They say art is a reflection of society & history, and delving into this book will prove no different. There’s a sense of nostalgia waiting under those outdated questions.

I am going to read some of the more recently published volumes of the Imponderables collection.

Why Do Dogs Have Wet Noses is a book by David Feldman that answers trivial questions about things like hot dog bun packaging. It's interesting how some of the answers go. For example, several institutions and groups focus entirely on the subject of the question at hand. Secondly, the book contains numerous anachronisms due to its 35-year age. If you're around my age, did you ever wonder what the three tones were for when you couldn't make a phone call? Someone did, and the book answers that question by going to the source, the telephone company.

None of the trivia that the book answers is earth-shattering, but if you ever wondered why dogs have wet noses, then look no further. I enjoyed the book. Thanks for reading my review, and see you next time.

My copy was a bit outdated, but it was still informative and well-written. A fun, easygoing book that's perfect for a quick weekend read.

Although this book is over 20 years old, only a few of the "imponderables" were dated. There were many very interesting facts.
