A good solid continuation of the King family focusing on Marc King.
I really don't have many complaints about Get Lucky. I liked how there was more interactions between Marc and London than there was in Play Dirty. Although the mystery was still there, I didn't think it over took the story like it did in Play Dirty. There was only one time I was reminded of the heavy mystery plot, but luckily it didn't last forever. My silly complaint is wondering why there is a Dodge Challenger on the cover when Marc drove a Ford Mustang? Sometimes I don't think these cover designers even know what the book is about.
Marc takes off to Colorado for a vacation after the last case surrounding getting his mom back and this mysterious 'game' that they still haven’t figured out yet. Soon after checking into Elk Ski Lodge, he sets his sights on the beauty behind the counter.
He's got his work cut out for him, that’s for sure. London Brooke is one who knows how to keep her past a secret and keep other from getting too close to her. Her parents are perhaps the world’s best criminals and she's always trying to outrun the memory of her childhood living with them. Always knowing they never wanted to have children, never sure if they were going to come back for her and never knowing where her next bed or food was going to come from.
She puts off Marc's advances on her and meanwhile is worrying with the unease of finding envelopes addressed to her containing pictures of her parents and threatening notes she'll never see them again.
Marc meanwhile continues to work on her and is surprised by the intensity that he feels for London. He knows this isn't just a normal lust he's feeling. When they do finally get together is almost a no brainer these two are for each other.
But a call from Jake that their parents have gone missing sends him home without a goodbye.
Shifting modes, Marc, Jake and Natasha work at finding Greg and Haley. Worried the mysterious 'game' has once again set their sights on their parents they work against the clock, but soon their leads are almost gone.
It's when he calls London to try to repair what damage leaving unannounced did to their relationship, that he learns she's been getting the same packages that his family received. From there he rushes back to get her.
While all in their hotel room, men attack and London watches under the bed as Marc and an injured Jake are taken. Shooting a man with the gun Marc just gave her against his better judgment, she is able to avoid being taken.
No other option, she calls Natasha, whom she's been in contact with some prior to this. With everyone else taken, it’s up to these two to save them.
It takes them a few days to find the location and infiltrate it. During that time, Marc, after he and Jake attempt an unsuccessful try at getting away, is separated from his family and put into an experimental group.
Claude and Evelyn are married and against the other players in the game where each team collects a group they consider the best of the best. After training, they will all put their team against others and allow the best fighter to win. Evelyn’s new drug forces the recipient to obey with no question. Marc sees his chance with her when he spots tension between the couple and she allows him to stay drugged free.
At the first sign of Natasha’s and London’s attack, Evelyn takes Marc hostage and makes a run for it. She drugs him and when he awakes they are at a hotel.
During the raid, the women manage to take down all their attackers, but Natasha takes a bullet. Just beyond is the cell where she finds Marc’s parents, Jake and her parents. Freeing them, they make their way back to the car and must split up. Greg and Haley take Natasha to the hospital and she, her parents, and Jake stay to look for Marc.
It doesn’t take long though before its clear he isn’t there. They later meet back at the hotel, where they learn Natasha will be fine. She also gets a calmer moment to process meeting Marc’s parents who, though surprised Marc didn’t tell them about her, take to her immediately.
Back to Marc, he makes his escape as soon as he find the opportunity, but his injured are causes him to pull over on the highway and promptly passes out. Not long after, cops find him and take him to the hospital.
London is shocked when Marc hardly looks her way when she and his family show up to collect him. She worries his feelings have changed and what his parents will think.
When they finally get alone, Marc isn’t shy about voicing the love he feels for her. The separation from her was killing him and he wants her to love him too. Yet her past of no one staying with her, he parents had already taken off, keeps her scared to trust even though she sees the love in his eyes.
When it’s time to head home, he agrees to her wish of spending a week apart to separate their feelings.
It’s the week from hell for Marc. His brother eventually snaps at him for allowing the woman he loves to run from him. Its then that he tells him parents he’s moving to Colorado and catches a flight.
London, actually had the same type of week and promptly quit her job, told her landlord she was leaving and drove to LA. Just as she’s pulling into the King’s driveway, Marc calls her demanding to know where she is. She doesn’t realize at first that they’re at each other’s’ house but when she does, she burst out laughing. Hearing the noise, Greg King walks to the door, gets Haley and burst out laughing along with her.
Rushing back home, Marc finds London on the beach waiting for him. Their life together starts then with the love they are never going to deny each other.
