3.5 / harsh winter reading of a dissociated young mother going through the motions of life until she reaches a breaking point & struggles to wake up from her numbness.

Why was she so bad at living? ... She met the night, for the first time, the night, the moon, the badly lit streets, the cool empty night, and as she listened the night became full, rich, extraordinary, alive with sounds, a quiet pulse; she tuned in to the night. She felt like some country that had been oppressed for a long time and was slowly rising up and throwing over its oppressors. She was making a revolution but the bloodshed was horrifying, and how many lives would be lost and where was it going to end and would she ever make the country of the free spirits?
