رمانی از دانیل استیل که به مسئله ازدواج کردن یا مجرد ماندن می‌پردازد. قهرمان داستان، تانا رابرتس، دختری سرسخت و مقاوم است که در نوجوانی حوادث تلخی را تجربه کرده و قصد طغیان در برابر غرایز بشری و قوانین طبیعی را دارد و تنها خواسته‌اش رسیدن به اهداف و جاه‌طلبی‌هایش می‌باشد. اما آیا فقط نیمی از دایره برای دستیابی به زندگی مطلوب کفایت می‌کند؟

Here's the thing, I never read this book. On a lark, I tried to remember all of the DS books i read during the summer between 5th and 6th grade. At the community pool, Sun-In brand hair lightener in hand, I would devour book by smutty book while soaking up the sun and attempting to get the adult male lifeguard to admire my pert little girl tits. I could finish one during peak tanning hours (between 10-2) and get home to catch the remainder of One LIfe to Live and the entire episode of General Hospital.

I believe I read 10 DS books in that 10 week period. Far from a speed reading prodigy, I quickly learned to scan for the key words that meant that sexy time action would soon commence. Words like: impale, throbbing, nubile, writhing, love mound, lapping, stroke, volcano gush, engorged, and sweet nectar swiftly brought my otherwise wandering attention back to the task at hand: sex ed 1985 edition.

Most of what I know about sex, love, and relationships, I learned that summer. Perhaps this explains the drama filled, formulaic nature of all of my adult themed. Also explained perhaps is the origin of my impression that words are sexier than deeds......
Should have stuck with Little House on the Prairie, I guess.

Though I have read some Danielle Steel novels before now but it's been a while however, this was an interesting and emotional read....It is unputdownable.

Most of the Danielle Steel books I've read, not that there's a lot, have a few things in common. First, there's rape or an act of abuse that is bound to scar the heroine, an oversized burden prolonged until it becomes a flotsam in an ocean of events, and therefore irrelevant halfway and discarded to oblivion. This, let me remind you again, is limited only to a few of the author's works I was able to read. Also, the heroine will have multiple relationships, not all at once though, and Steel has a fantastic timings in her works where men, mostly very much older and well-off, walk into the heroine's life right in between moments of a death and/or of falling out. She's also fond of killing off light-spirited characters, as if to drive home a point.

I am formally retiring Danielle Steel from my shelves.

::this is my first of danielle steele's, and i must say, i still love it till now..i practically laugh and cry with it..i really love the part when Harry is dying and asked Tana to give marriage life a try.. when i read it, it's like watching a movie, how the plots being concocted together...aaaahh..i just plain love it !!::

It started our strongly, but got worse and worse. From a much older love interest calling the main character "little girl" (just gave me the ick) to the constant "she was too old for children" (at age 30?!?!?). Don't waste your time, this has not aged well.

Absolutely loved this book. I swear, Danielle Steel has me laughing, crying and saying to myself ‘just one more chapter..’ every time I read her books. This one is amazing, despite being set in the 60s/70s. Even though I read it in 2021, her books and plots are still relevant and modern. Bravo!

Encore un superbe roman qui se déroule dans un univers juridique à propos duquel l'auteur n'a aucune connaissance, comme il en pullule sur le marché : confusion entre Cour d'appel et première instance, entre cour fédérée et cour fédérale, sans parler d'une erreur qui vient probablement de la traduction en confondant Cour de cassation et Cour suprême, alors que la cour de cassation n'existe pas aux USA... et on en parle, du "clerc" de la juge alors que clerc est un métier du notariat ? Rien ne va.

Les personnages sont tous plus absurdes les uns que les autres : la socialiste devient une juge extrêmement conservatrice, la femme moderne, child-free, qui refuse le mariage se marie à la fin et à deux enfants, l'homme en fauteuil roulant rattrape la femme qui s'évanouit et l'aide à s'installer sur le canapé (j'aimerais bien savoir comment il fait).

Tout est traité avec superficialité et légèreté, alors que les sujets du roman sont extrêmement lourds (viol, guerre du Vietnam, ségrégation raciale, femme-juge dans les années 70...). On se retrouve avec une pléthore de thèmes très difficiles, survolés en 350 pages, sans aucune profondeur, le tout pour avoir une fin éclatée au sol.

Ce roman me met terriblement en colere. Pour votre bien, ne lisez pas ça.

I have a secret fondness for Danielle Steel novels dating back to the first one someone dropped on me at school, when her mother was about to throw out some books. I still don't know what prompted that overture of friendship and it never really went anywhere but I collected a bunch of these growing up and then left them behind as I went on to university. I picked this copy up in a charity shop a couple of weeks ago on a whim and it is just as satisfying as it was. Very much a product of its times, a whirlwind melodrama with more ellipses than you can shake a stick at...

This was a good book, but I had some major issues with it. The book started out focused on Jean and then moved to Tana but I wish it had more of the mother in it. Billy should have also been punished or revenged somehow for the rape. Harry never should have died - Full Circle means she & him should have gotten together somehow. She also should have stayed in touch with Sharon Blake's parents or maybe had Sharon's son come looking for Tana. Good book through & good time frame.

This book is full of too many disgraceful events. Danielle Still is a great writer and because of it, the story is easy to read. I found very odd that at the end of the book Still didn't write anything about Tan’s mother, especially when Tana becomes a mother in her own. I don’t know what to think of this story...

Estaba indecisa entre 2.5 y 3. Pero me conquistó Russell y Harry por ellos le di 3 estrellas. Tana no me gustó es como que no aprendía y al final dijo quiero lo que siempre he dicho que no quería 🙄. Me llevo cierto tiempo acostumbrarme a que comenzó en 1941 y termino en 1983. Eso explica muchas cosas y como se afrontaron ciertos sucesos.

Es de los más flojitos de los que he leído de la autora. Tiene su punto en que describe el transcurso del tiempo y no se centra en una situación fija, no sé si me explico. Narra la vida de una chica, así como todo lo que ocurre a su alrededor. Con ese mensaje de: todo termina, todo es temporal. Algunas personas se quedan, otras se van. A veces parece que ha encontrado el final feliz, pero se equivoca. En ese sentido, es interesante; pero, a la misma vez, esta característica da la sensación de no saber de qué va el libro. Además, al principio nos encontramos con una chica con una personalidad muy marcada, muy independiente y rompiendo los roles de género de las mujeres de los años 60. Pero la autora decide darle un "final feliz" con marido y niños, algo que no quería tener nunca y que deja claro durante dos décadas. Como si lo único que pudiera hacer feliz a una mujer, plenamente feliz al menos, fuera ser esposa y madre. Así que bueno, está entretenido pero no le encuentro ese feeling que encontré en los dos anteriores que leí de Danielle steel.

I found this story a little slow moving at the beginning, but once I got into it ... quite moving especially at the end! One war killed her husband and a baby daughter never got to know her father! Life with her mother's boss's family was not a worthy substitute until she grew up and met up with her 'best friend, ever'.... At least, with Harry, Tana started to live a life of worth; school had become bearable after the loss of her close girlfriend, but embarking on a law degree helped but didn't stop her from fully trusting men and her strongly kept secret.... Then it was another war that made her crusade for the rights of others and give hope to Vet Harry that life was not over! However Tan's attitude to life and men led her on a journey of trial and error in her love life but a prosperous climb up the legal ladder... Tana did not want a life like her mother's but when Tana did finally find the one she realised she could have both - a career, loving husband and family.....

Review Edit:

1)The very beginning of the book didn't matter. It's about the mc's mum who you barely even see throughout the book.

2)MC goes on a date and kisses her best friend's dad while her best friend is in the hospital. Note that said best friend also has a crush on her.

3)MC has a hard love life with all the red flags she chases around when there's a green one always right there for her, her best friend.

4)Ugly cover. Would have been better if it wasn't such a strong red.

5)Title doesn't make sence. Felt like it was put there because why not?

6)As far as I renember, the back of the copy I read said that mc marries at the age of 60. First, that's a little to late, and second that didn't turn out to be the case.

I absolutely loved this book! It makes you think about a lot of stuff especially if you’re a woman who cares about her career, and wants to have it all without loosing herself to any of the life roles.
Her friendship with Harry is something that everyone in life should experience. It was so good and they could get each other of the worst slumps.

this is the second Danielle steel book I've read and this was at least better than the other one but ...

pros - good storyline & characters for the most part. I liked tana and her friendships with Sharon and Henry.

cons - I hate when rape is used as character development, and that even up to the end her mom never believed her.

while I liked tana's friendship with Sharon, it felt like more 'lets show what a good person she is by making her friends with a black person, but we don't want that black person to be a main character so kill her off' and tana never does anything more with civil rights even though her BEST friend was killed.

the love story side of all of it. I really was pulling for Henry and I think that would've been lovely. but I like the friendship too so...

the love story with Henry's dad was absolutely awful and just disgusting. I'm glad it went nowhere.

and then the Russ story line in the end. it felt so rushed and just pushed on to have a traditionally happy ending. he falls in love and wants to marry her after what, going to the museum with her? never even kissing? and then she marries him and takes his name because 'none of that women's lib nonsense'.... tana was a civil rights and Vietnam war protestor.... really?
and OF course she ends up having babies because this is the 80s and God forbid a woman's life is complete without kids.

overall - I did read this in two days while camping so it's not terrible. I liked it ok but felt like the ending was just totally rushed and kinda ruined it.

Le doy una estrella porque no puedo darle menos. Es el libro con la propaganda más blanca y conservadora que he leído en toda mi vida.

En cuanto murió Sharon ya sabía yo que no iba a volver a aparecer ni un solo personaje negro o racializado, y claramente no me equivoqué. Y que encima la madre de la susodicha le diga a la rubia, alta, delgada, blanca protagonista que ha visto una fuerza en ella que no tenía su hija cuando su hija estuvo luchando hasta el final por los derechos de los negros?? No se nota para nada la intención de la autora, no.

Tanto tratar de dar el mensaje de que las mujeres no necesitamos casarnos y tener hijos para sentirnos realizadas para acabar haciendo completamente lo contrario.

Lo de que preocuparse por los derechos humanos lo traten como una fase rebelde para la protagonista y hacerse conservadora y dejar de estar en contra de la guerra es madurar...okay

La madre me parece una manipuladora de manual, lo que le hace a Tana es abuso psicológico.

Quiero demandar a la autora por hacerme perder el tiempo porque menuda bazofia de libro.

Overall, I got emotionally invested in Tana and her story. Her mother Jean had no choice but to raise her on her own after her husband was killed in action in WWII. Later, relying financially on a man who's married to an alcoholic wife sadly shaped her world view as she viewed him as a financial benefactor walking on water and his 2 kids as though they could do nothing wrong.

There were definitely dark things to read in this book... a brutal rape, not being believed and called a liar when telling a loved one about the rape the night of and 2 more attempts made, racist incidents (non violent, I mean) 2 lynchings ( not mentioned explicitly but that's how I read it- read it in the book)...just to name a few

Not necessarily an easy read in some parts but a compelling story.
