In Six Words :

found it to be too repetitive

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? :
I think Felicia tweeted about this being on sale and it sounded like something I’d enjoy (it’s not like I already own hundreds of books I haven’t read yet or anything…). I really wanted to like this more. It has higher ratings on Amazon and GoodReads. I just couldn’t get past the same feelings being expressed in the same way over and over and over. If one more chapter ended with either one of the leads saying that they loved the other but wouldn’t say it until the other one did, I would have stopped reading. It felt really immature to be unwilling to tell someone you love them until they tell you first. Specially if you are putting your life in their hands.

That being said, I liked the plot and idea behind the story. I didn’t hate the characters themselves. I actually thought both of them were just funny enough for the story and well-developed. I just wanted to spend less time in their heads and more time in action or conversation. Hell I even found myself skimming the sex scenes later in the book because I felt like I had read the same thing earlier and just wanted to know how it ended.

If you like paranormal romance that is heavy on the mental aspects of falling in love and opening your heart once you’ve been burned in the past, then I’d still recommend this. If you want a faster-paced romance then this isn’t the book for you.

Great Read! Hot!

What a great start to a new series. Ascension was totally sizzling hot! Lealandra is coming into her own magical power (Ascension), a power of old that is stronger than today’s normal witches. The only thing that can calm her powers is her ex-boyfriend Taig who happens to be half human-half demon, a.k.a. the demon half that happens to be the oldest and strongest form of magic of hell.

Lealandra and Taig’s passion reunites and will have you panting hard breaths as you read through the erotic scenes and the action will have you glued to the pages as Taig takes on his demon form and power to protect Lealandra from her traitorous witch coven. Lealandra’s own power is nothing to snooze at either, she is one kick ass bitch. A bitch that loves the thrill of the Hunt/Kill.

I look forward to reading the next book in this trilogy and finding out more about Taig’s parents and if they end up going in to hell to find them.

Lealandra is a witch on the verge of what's called the ascension, which is a time when the magic within her reaches its most powerful. This ascension is not an easy undertaking and most witches don't survive because they become overwelmed with their magic's potency to the point that they succumb and are killed by their own magic. Of course our heroine also has the odds stacked against her because her counter-balance, the one who is suppose to take some of the magic away from her during her ascension so she can survive is murdered leaving Lealandra in an even worst situation. Not to mention that Lealandra was the intended target to get killed.

So with this ascension coming at her with no counter-balance and someone trying to kill her, Lealandra seeks her ex- half demon/half human lover Taig for help. Lealandra walked out on Taig 6 years ago and Taig isn't sure what he feels for her now that she has come back into his life. He also has some past issues to work out and isn't sure Lealandra will accept him for his true self. However, Lealandra is there for him whenever he is ready to let her in. The one thing however that Taig is sure of is he needs to protect her and help her make it through her ascension but at what cost?

As usual Felicity delivers a action packed..uber sexy story. I loved this reunion between the two characters as well as a glimpsed into his past that sets up for the next book.

You know what I like? Demons. Especially when they're sexy and hot and they get all possessive about the women they love. You know what else I like? The first part of a trilogy where everything comes together nicely and you're left with answers but then sometimes those answers lead to more questions and you really want to know more. This is always a good thing when you have two more books coming in a series.

The moral of that paragraph is that I really, really enjoyed Ascension. I got my sexy, hot demon. I got a satisfactory ending to Lealandra's Ascension trials as well as the beginning of a larger arc. I met characters I liked and characters I want to know more of. Did I mention the questions? Like: What type of demon is Taig? Oh, I have other questions but I'm biting my lip to keep from asking them so I won't give away any plot points. It's not easy, but I'm managing.

I found this to be a compelling, well-paced, sexy read with interesting characters and plenty of room for storyline growth. As always, Felicity Heaton has brought her characters to life wonderfully and given them emotions that ring true. I'm eagerly looking forward to book 2.

Eh, wish I'd left this one on the shelf. While the idea was an interesting one, the actual execution is a mess and frankly Lealandra was the kind of heroine I always want to slap and the gender relations are so outdated and disgusting I almost couldn't get past them.

Let me start with some examples of Lealandra's behavior. She returns to her ex when she needs his protection. She then kisses him, but gets pissed off when he basically says, "I'll only help you if you have sex with me" (which also makes him a big dick, even after Lea's internal monologue says he's only saying it to get back at her for leaving) but spends the whole book giving him very obvious mixed signals (because she really loves him and wants to have sex with him, despite refusing). She gets jealous of him speaking to another woman, so she throws herself into obvious danger and gets herself drugged and almost assaulted, requiring rescue. She get's angry at the bad guy and then charges in to fight him, so unprepared she literally didn't even put clothes on (yes, naked). Again, needs rescuing while thinking, "I wish I'd listened to Taig." She allows Taig to constantly talk about possessing her, owning her, releasing custody of her, taking care of her, protecting, etc. She lived with a man for six years who didn't "allow" her to do something she needed. Her impending ascension means that she isn't able to control her own body or sexuality. (God, that is such a common theme in romance books and it always pisses me off.) She's 32 bloody years old, but acts and is treated like a child.

Basically, Lea's character, which we're told is strong can, be summed up in this disgusting quote
Usually she was strong, but around him, she felt as though she didn’t need to be. She could be the woman she was inside, without fear of him thinking that she was weak. He would protect her.
Because apparently she can't simultaneously be the woman inside and strong? Because obviously no true woman would want to be strong when there's a man available. Blerg.

And this is all highlighted by the fact that she basically doesn't do anything but cower and lust over Taig for the whole book. Even defeating the villian, who we're told is weaker than her (but male) requires this:
It was his power that allowed her to do this, that would see her end this fight and become the victor. It was his strength all along that had helped her, through both the ascension and also through what lay ahead. She would always need him and his power, his support and guidance, but most of all his love and devotion.
Blerg. Because god forbid she both have her own strength, power and skill and be a woman!

Then there is the actual writing. It could have been ok, a bit purple but readable, if it wasn't so damned repetitive. We are told the same things over and over and over again. Then those same things are contradicted over and over and over again. Just so we can be told or shown the opposite again. The internal monologues are endless and always focus on sex or the other person's body, usually when the character is in pain or running/fighting for their life. Sure, his sexy abs are just what I'm thinking about when trying not to die.

The plot is incredibly weak, mostly because there is sooooo much sex, talking about sex, fantasizing about sex, refusing to have sex or, well, sex (most of which was of the hammer and nail variety. He basically just gracelessly pounds her and apparently that's erotic and gets her off) that there is almost no room left for plot or character development. There is one side character, who gets mentioned repeatedly throughout the book, but isn't introduced or explained until 80% in. Similarly, there is no build up to the final fight. Suddenly, with almost no explanation, they have a team fighting with them and are in the middle of it.

Very poor. I have no desire to continue the series, thank you very much, even if the hints for book two started getting dropped at about page 10.

This book in one sentence: A steamy, romantic, action-packed and dangerously delicious thrill ride that will take you for the craziest ride of your life. That is pretty much how I would sum it up! There is constant action, emotional turmoil, unbelievable powers, and behind it all is an undying love.

Lelandra has loved one man in her life, Taig, but she let him go to further her powers and to do that she needed to leave with her chosen Counter-Balance. Everything changes the night he is murdered in her apartment under the protection of her Coven, and whoever killed him has Lelandra in their sights. She is nearing her Ascension and with it comes a great surge in her powers as a witch, but she will be vulnerable until it is reached. With the murder happening in her own Coven, she doesn't know who to trust, so she turns to the only man she has ever loved and trusted wholeheartedly - Taig. Taig is a half-demon who is hates his demon half and wishes he were human. When Lelandra left he was left empty, only filled with the thirst for violence, which he takes out on whoever is his next mark since he is Hunter. Slowly ridding the world of the scum of the underworld, including fellow demons. His life takes a turn when Lelandra steps back into his life. He is the only one who can help her survive her Ascension and the hit put out on her with both his blood and his body, but will it cost him the one thing he can't afford to lose again - his heart?

This book will have you screaming, laughing, crying and cheering for Lelandra and Taig as they take you for one of the greatest rides of your life. Hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Felicity's imagination is endless. Every new story I read takes me to a higher plane.

In this story Felicity paints scenes of love, lust, emotion and let's not forget totally mesmerizing fight scenes. The friction between the two main characters Taig and Lealandra pulls you deep into the story wanting more each page you turn.

Witches, demons and immense magical powers lead you on a trail of adventure and romance as Lealandra struggles to come to terms with her returned feelings for Taig, and overtaken with the preparation of her ascension.

I thoroughly enjoy reading Felicity's books. She is the only author I know that can drag a scene out over a few chapters and not bore me to death. Three pages has gone past and all the characters have done is look at each other and expressed their feelings. It's amazing how she expresses her characters feelings and thoughts with so much description, allowing us the readers to really understand and get to know each of her characters.

A must read for all paranormal romance lovers.

I don’t know why most of the author’s readers never mention this book. I keep seeing her Angel and Vampires books, but not this one. But I can tell, that Ascension is as good as her other books.

Okay, maybe I am a little biased against this, because my favorite para creatures are the demons for a while now. Although this book is about witches rather than demons, actually, our Heroine; Lealandra, is a powerful witch who begins to lose control over her own magic, as her Ascension is coming. Witches need their own Counter-Balance. Someone who can temper their magic. Here is the problem. She lost hers. Moreover, someone wants her dead. Lealandra leaves her coven to find her ex-lover and ask for help. The demon hunter, Taig who is also a half-demon. He let her go six years ago; he definitely will not make that mistake again, now that she is back. In a world, where usually witches and demons don’t get involved with the other race’s problem, now for some reason, the demons hunting her, and when theoretically her coven would be the best help for her, it seems, the only person who Lealandra can trust is her half-demon ex. Her Ascension mark clearly shows that Taig has a big role in her ascension. The question is what is his role and is he powerful enough to save Lealandra? It’s a race against time, a war against witches, demons and her own magic.

This action packed, magical romance story won’t give you rest. As most of Felicity’s books, Ascension begins in medias res. With a *cough* HOT *cough* scene between Taig and Lealandra. I did not have a tiny problem with this book! Nothing… Nada! There was action, romance, mystery, drama, loveable characters, funny quotes, good story, and two strong lead characters. My only question is what really happened with Taig’s parents???

I must post a few quotes from/about Taig, because I just love him and these were memorable for me…

“I guess that’s why you’re here. Loverboy just doesn’t cut it when it comes to handling demons. That pair of weaklings would have him inside out and back to front before he could lift a finger to cast whatever impotent half-assed spell he could muster.”

“If I’d decided not to let him take you, he wouldn’t have. He would’ve died a lot sooner.”

“There were at least twenty storeys on the building and it was wide. He figured it housed around seven hundred witches. That was six hundred and ninety nine more than he was comfortable with.”

And there’s a few more, but I let you find them.
I highly recommend this book!

This was a great paranormal romance. I think anyone who loves reading this genre is going to enjoy this book. We get many sexy scenes, a strong man who will do anything to protect his women and a battle to survive.

I loved the pairing of half demon and witch. I thought they really did balance each other. I liked how Lea was able to get Taig to finally see she loved all of him including his demon side. I think now that they have that part out of the way, (Taig accepting himself)the next book will be even that much better. He did spend a lot of time dwelling on it and so did Lea, now we get to move past that.

They really are a great match. I can't wait to get more into their world. The parts we got in this book where so fun and I can't wait to see more.

I literally just finished this, so I may tweak this review up or add more!!

There was decent plot in here somewhere. Too bad it was obscured by horny internal monologues of the two main characters. Can you honestly think about how awesome his pecks look while you are fighting for your life? The lust dragged the story down. It didn't move or have a nice flow. The editing was horrible. I skimmed through the last couple of chapters. On a positive note the little bit of the plot we had wasn't bad. I was also able to finish it which I can't say about most of the free books I download. I would not recommend it though.

Summary:

Lealandra is one of the most powerful witches in her coven and possibly in the world, and that was before her ascension which is rapidly approaching. At the time of an Ascension a powerful witches Power will dramatically increase, this time puts the witch’s very life jeopardy. Many don’t survive their Ascension especially without their counter balance, which Lealandra’s was killed several weeks ago. So, not only does she have to deal with her Ascension but now she has someone trying to kill her if the Ascension doesn’t first. Not trusting her coven and having nowhere else to go, Lealandra goes to the one person she knows will protect her with their life, her ex-lover Taig. Taig is half human and half demon with immense Power; he is also a demon hunter. For six years he has been waiting patiently for Lea to come back to him. He knows he has what she needs, that no one in her coven can provide her. He has only been waiting for her to realize it as well. Now, he finally has what he’s been waiting for in his grasp and he is not going to let anyone or anything take that from him, not even Lealandra.

Review:

I absolutely adored this book. I found it while doing my free Kindle eBooks post and as soon as I read the description I knew this book was going to be the next one that I read even though I’ve had other books waiting that I’m behind on. I read the description and it just clicked with me. First, I love witches; they are some of my favorites of the paranormal world. Then I secretly have a guilty pleasure for demons. Well I guess it’s not secret anymore. Lol. I know a lot of readers aren’t that into demons, but me, I’m about it. They ride that very fine line between being evil and “good”. A demon is the quintessential “Bad Boy”. Taig is no exception to this. Then we have the rekindling a romance, plotline which is yet another one of my weaknesses. I love when a couple finds their way back together. I think I like it because it’s a bit more believable then two people meeting for the 1st time and falling in love within 48 hours. Here is a couple that had 6 incredible months together, only for Lea to leave Taig thinking she needed a coven to help her with her Power, but now she’s unsure that was what she really needed.

I liked Lealandra as a character and as our heroine. She was strong and could stand up against Taig, she did not let him walk all over her. She is a woman confident in her power but for the most part knows her limitations and she knows she needs Taig to help her. She has crazy amounts of Power and she is not afraid to use it. Lea has a bit of a dark side that she has been repressing since she left Taig, I love when she lets it out to play. I can’t stand a too perfect goodie-goodie character, people should have flaws. Lea definitely is flawed, she has her insecurities and issues, but you know she has a good heart and grit. Towards the beginning of the book I had to have a small talk with Lea in my head (Hey, I’m not crazy! I just had to talk some sense into the poor girl. Don’t judge me! Lol). She was having thoughts that Taig had to prove to her, but she left him, not the other way around, so why would he do all the work?? I just didn’t understand that mentality but understood the fear behind her. But, thankfully, my girl got with the program and realized she left him and she was going to have to put in some work if she wanted him back. She knows she made a huge mistake and acknowledges that she broke both her own heart and his when she left, but she realizes if survives this ascension Taig is worth the risk to her heart even though she may not survive the heartbreak if he rejects her.

Taig is a demon after my own heart; he just might be one of my new favorite book boyfriends. He is just the right combination of dangerous, alpha, hard ass to good hearted and vulnerable. Half human and half demon has left Taig with a terrible feeling of belonging nowhere and caught between two worlds. His parents disappeared when he was 13 which increased his feelings of belonging nowhere and abandonment. When Lealandra, left him he was really left with no one and ice has surrounded his heart ever since. She was the first that he ever let get that close to him and it about broke him when she left, now Fort Knox has nothing on his barricades around his heart. We watch Taig with his internal struggle against his natural instinct to close himself off and not believe that he is good enough for anyone. You really hope for Taig to find some inner peace within himself, because you know he’s worthy and Lealandra knows he is her everything and his demon side never scared her, now all we need is for Taig to get with the program. One of the things I liked most about Taig is yes he is an alpha male and has the overwhelming urge to protect; however, he is not a slave to the feeling. He can also sit back and watch as Lealandra, does work and kicks some ass. How sexy is that! Oh and he has wings! I LOVE the dark wings that retract like Aeron had in the Lords of the Underworld. There is just so much that is sexy about this character I could keep going on but I won’t, I’ll let you read the book so you can fall in love with Taig as well.

Ok, so is this book all sunshine and rainbows, no, it is a little rough around the edges; however, quite frankly I didn’t care, I was too caught up in the story. In my last review I mentioned how I tend to get caught up in holes in plots, inconstancies, etc… If, the story doesn’t pick me up and sweep me away until I am so engrossed that I barely notice; this is what happened with this book as soon as something registered the thought was gone and I was right back in the story. What I also enjoyed with this book is F. Heaton was not afraid to use magic. So often when we have magic welding characters they don’t use their powers that often; the magic is often an afterthought. Heaton liberally uses magic within the story, its apart of the story like its apart of the characters. Also, when Heaton leads us into battle it’s not a wimpy battle almost over before it starts, but a real battle with causalities and victories which lasts longer then a brief page or two. There is no easing you into this book, from the first page you are smack dab in the middle of action, action I wouldn’t have minded being in the middle well maybe not the middle (haha) and it keeps on rocking until the last page. I was so sad when the book was over and then I saw it was considered a single title not a part of a series and then I was even sadder. I wasn’t ready to let Taig and Lealandra go, I’m still not ready to let them go. There is still open issues and damnit I want more! I want a prequel and at least another book; they have some unfinished business to take care of and more asses to kick. Pretty please F.E. Heaton if you see this, please take pity on me and continue this story you know you have at least one person that will read the next book. *smiles*

I enjoyed the story and will reread it, I'm sure, in the years to come. Can love conquer all? In the magical world of witches, demons, and shadows, witches and demons don't mix. Lea is going through her ascension soon and needs someone to counterbalance her magic in order to survive. Her witches coven assigned her a counterbalance, but she has only loved one man, and it isn't him. When he's killed in front of her she runs in fear for her life, not knowing who is out for her or why. Surely her coven wouldn't hurt her. Right? Her true love, Taig, is half man, half demon, and is the only one she truly trusts to keep her safe. Will he forgive her for leaving him? Does he love her like she wants him to so desperately? I would've given 5 stars, but I had an issue with the information being given so repetitively. Great characters, plot, humor, and action, and well worth a read.

Repeative, needy sex scenes over & over

The author tries too hard to make the book romantic or steamy, I guess. The whole book is about a witch & demon who can't get enough of each other having sex. The witch can't live without the demon's power. It's like the author couldn't think of anything to make the story interesting so let's just add more sex scenes. They weren't hot or steamy. There were so many that there was no build up to the scene so it didn't feel real or exciting. It was boring and I forced myself to finish the book hoping for redemption but there was none. Sorry I wasted my time.

"Ascension" is a smoking hot paranormal romance from UK author Felicity Heaton. I've been a fan of Heaton's for some years now, although I when I stopped reading PNR for a while she dropped off my radar. Heaton has a certain style to her writing - she writes love stories with erotic scenes, lush descriptions, heavy emotions, usually shifting between male and female perspectives. Often there is a misunderstanding or a miscommunication that needs to be worked out, and it eventually does, in the end. This offering, a second-chance love story between a witch and her demon lover, was signature Heaton. I loved it.

Ascension of a witch with the help of a demon

I loved the idea that love could break the barriers of what is thought to be forbidden. Lea would never have survived her ascension if she followed the established rules the coven had set down. Taig, half human and half demon, needed Lea as much as she needed him to survive and maybe a future.

I liked this book. At first it seemed like I had missed an intro book but then I settled into it. The parts about the magic and how it fed off of the other was kind of hard to understand, that could have been explained better.

Ascension is a story about a witch, Lealandra and her half human/demon lover, Taig. Lea has sought Taig out after six years of being apart to ask for his protection. Someone is trying to kill her and she knows that Taig who is one of the most sought after demon hunters in New York City, is the only one who can help her find the killers and protect her.

Her Counter-Balance Charlie was shot dead in their apartment by an unknown sniper. Lea is unsure if she was the intended target or if the killers wanted Charlie dead in order to leave Lea unprotected. Witches as powerful as Lea need a counter-balance to absorb their excess magic so that they can stay in control. The significance of a counter-balance is even more important if a witch goes through their ascension. A witch’s ascension or transition will either kill them or if they survive make them incredibly powerful. Lea is very close to going through her ascension and fears that without her coven she may not survive it. With Charlie dead she is vulnerable. But she’s unsure if the murderer is someone from within her coven or some other unknown supernatural being.

Taig agrees to help Lea on the condition that she resumes a sexual relationship with him. Lea balks at this request and offers to pay him instead. She’s afraid that if she gets involved with him again she will lose her heart again. The first part of the book spent too much time rehashing the fact that Lea and Taig were so in love with each other and should have never left each other. There was a lot of time spent with the two of them going back and forth about how much they loved each other and how hurt they were when things ended. Taig blamed Lea for leaving him to join a new coven and accepting a counter-balance who he assumed was also her lover.

When they finally stop squabbling and agree to a “price” the story finally starts to pick up momentum. Lea and Taig make a trip to Lea’s coven so that she can pack up things for her move into Taig’s house. The presence of a demon inside the coven is seen as a sign of betrayal. The coven’s leader Gregori declares that if Lea leaves again she will not be welcome back.

Taig and Lealandra’s love story was interesting and I enjoyed seeing them work together to get through her ascension and track down the supernatural creatures that were after her. Lea helped Taig to stop denying who he was and finally accept his demon side. He was always afraid that she would not accept his scaly, horned, evil side but when he finally shed his human skin and let her see his demon body she was not afraid and embraced the demonic side of him with unconditional love.

This paranormal love story was set in New York City with Lea’s coven being housed in a contemporary high rise building. I always imagine covens being out in the woods or in old mansions so this was a refreshing change. I felt Felicity Heaton did a wonderful job creating this supernatural world full of witches and demons. Ascension had exciting fight scenes and several sultry sex scenes with a sexy winged demon that would do anything to protect his beautiful witch. This is the first book in the Shadow and Light Trilogy and I look forward to following Taig’s and Lealandra’s adventures.

I really enjoyed this witch and I’m typically not a witch fan. I also liked the traits, abilities, and weaknesses that Heaton gave to her flavor of witches. Lealandra is approaching her ascension. This is not something that all witches will experience. The witches that are marked for ascension do not necessarily make it through the process. It is a very dangerous transition that a witch may go through. The process requires the covens magical assistance and also the help of the ascending witch’s Counter-Balance. Lealandra finds herself with a tiny problem, her ascension is bearing down on her and will happen at any moment, her Counter-Balance has been killed and she feels that she can no longer trust her coven.

While hanging at a pub Taig has found himself in the best place he ever thought to be. His ex-lover has thrown herself into his arms in an attempt to hide from some demons that have been pursuing her. Taig had never thought to see her again. She had left him six years prior for her coven. Witches don’t like demons, half breeds are not. Taig doesn’t like his demon half either. He is constantly at odds with that part of himself. His demon half makes him feel worthless and a bit self-loathing. Taig is one damaged man, a deliciously damaged half demon man.

Lealandra needs Taig’s help. She knows that he can protect her from the evil that is after her. Taig is more than capable of handling the situation that Lealandra has found herself in. The problem is their feeling for each other and all of the emotions that are between them. These two are a must read hot mess.

I was also very impressed with the ending climatic fight scene. Heaton gave her witches that are fighting with magical powers a very vicious imagery. I had this whole magical Matrix witch fight sequence playing out in my head. They were walking on air and falling from the sky. It was very intense!

I can’t wait for the next book in this trilogy. I guessing by the way Ascension ended readers will get more Taig and Lealandra. Other people were not introduced in a set up for a future couple in the next book. I don’t want to give an ending spoiler away, but it seemed to me that Taig and Lealandra have more journeys and trails that they will face together. I have NO PROBLEMS reading more Taig and Lealandra. They are an awesome couple, as a couple they make sense and really are two halves that make a whole. Their abilities and powers not only complement each other’s, but they feed and boost each other. They are also extremely hot together. The sex scenes in this book will leave you looking for a cold shower or a hot man.

Lealandra is a witch on the verge of achieving phenomenal power. With her Counter-Balance dead and her coven against her, she must turn to her half-breed demon ex-lover, Taig, for protection from the dark force that is after her and her own magic. Taig's blood and power is the only thing that can help Lealandra control her magic enough to survive the ascension. Can she win back his broken heart, and can he forgive her for walking out on him? Will Taig ever believe her when she tells him he's not a monster, but the man she loves?

Warning: This book is for adults only due to scenes of an explicit nature!

This is the first book in the Shadow and Light Trilogy, and is another fantastic story from Felicity Heaton!
Lealandra is a powerful witch, but she is going through the ascension, a transition where her power is at it's peak. However, her Counter-Balance (the person to help her through it) has been killed by persons unknown. In desperation, she turns to her ex-lover Taig, a half human-half demon, for protection.
I loved Lealandra's character. She is usually brave, but the death of her Counter-Balance has her running scared. She is stubborn and tenacious when she wants something. But when it comes to Taig, she is still in love with him - even though she was the one to break up with him six years previously.
Taig is a fantastic alpha male. He does have an issue with his demon side - he doesn't like it much. However, if he was real, I think I would keep him! Who says demons have to be bad? That's not to say he's not dangerous - he is - but he has a loving side, and he loves Lealandra very much. (Darn it!).
I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book if you love a fantastic, spicy novel that will get your heart pounding!

Okay, long story short. I absolutely loved these characters. There was really nothing about Taig and Lealandra that I didn’t like. The end. Umm… I’m kinda guessing that you may want a little bit more than that. OK, so here it goes.

Ascension had everything in it that I absolutely love about paranormal romance. Mystery, romance (duh!), tension, an unwilling alpha, some really bad – bad guys and heat. Yep, that just about covers it. *sigh*

Taig was what I have come to know as Felicity Heaton’s typical hero. He hates his dark side. He has loved and lost and that love has a name. Lealandra. What he doesn’t understand is that he never really lost her. That, in itself, is what drives this story – at least it was for me.

Lealandra was in a no-win situation. She did what she felt she had to do in the past and she still is when the story opens. The connection between her and Taig was great. She had her work cut out for her. She had a power she couldn't control by herself and she needed Taig physically and emotionally. She just had to convince him of that. Taig was willing, but needed more for Lealandra than even he was willing to admit. Once again.... *sigh*

The supporting characters in Ascension were impressive too. They help to keep the action going and kept the reader’s interest. A lot went on in this book and there was a lot to learn about the different races. Heaton did a great job at helping you keep it all straight.

I know that this is listed as a stand alone novel at the end of the book, but according to her list of WIP on her website, Ascension 2 is due to be released in 2014. That’s a very good thing because there is definitely more to Taig and Lealandra’s story and I really wouldn’t mind visiting them again. ;)

I love when a book starts of with major hot action! Ascension is another great read by Felicity Heaton that’s packed full of action, sensuality, mystery and amazing characters like she’s done many times over in her works. Any romance and paranormal genre reader out there will have a great time reading Ascension!

Lealandra is about to ascend into her full power but needs help to do so. She needs a balance to help her keep her power in check. The only person she can think to go to for help his someone she thought she’d never see again and had missed for many years, her ex Taig. Now she just has to figure out how to get him to help her without crossing any unsettling boundaries that she does not want to cross and still receive his help.

Taig is a half demon hottie that speaks his mind and is not one to be messed with! He has some acceptance issues (about himself) and holds a lot of hate towards his parents for abandoning him without a word. One thing that brightens his day and calms his demon has never changed from day one he was with her, Lealandra. But she had to leave him for reasons of her coven and regrets ever letting her go. Now that she comes to him in need of help; he will stop at absolutely nothing to protect her, forever!

Together these two are a force to be reckoned with in the bedroom and out getting some fighting action. A team in so many ways it gives the reader a sense of awe at how perfect they are. They both came a very long way by the end and what an end it is :)

Heaton pulled off this paranormal romance in a glorious fashion. I found both of the main characters, Lealandra and Taig, individually fascinating. Taig is a half human, half demon creation. What was interesting about him was that he was this confident bounty hunter, yet he had an intense dislike for his demon side. He was self conscious about it and it provided depth to the story as he grew to accept himself. Lealandra is a powerful witch on the verge of her ascension which is to make her more powerful than any other. This is because of her “old” blood line.

Why this is a 3 and a half star is I think Heaton fell short with the tension between the two. They both have these uncontrollable, passionate feelings for each other almost constantly. The part of this that didn’t quite work for me was the fact that they could suppress these “uncontrollable” urges at a drop of a hat. The two also questioned whether the other loved them or not, when it was blatantly obvious that they did. Lastly, although Lealandra was supposed to be this all powerful witch, she seemed to be beaten easily by other witches that hadn’t even been through the ascension and had “new” blood. Overall, the romance and the paranormal creatures were displayed beautifully and I highly enjoyed the book.

This was a "Meh" book for me. This was not the most interesting, entertaining, creative or compelling book that felicity Heaton has ever written. This wasnt even close. Not bad...but not memorable like other books she has written.

what was good: I liked Taig. I liked the way the book opened. I liked the concept of the Ascension and the struggle witches have with their powers. I liked the demon v witch tension. There were good parts of this book that had some serious potential.

what wasnt good: Another review stated that this book read like an adult PNR with characters taken from a teen/YA story. I would ammend that statement a tiny bit and say that this book read like an adult PNR with a Female Protagonist taken from a teen/YA story. Lea was annoying and flooded with self doubt and constantly second guessing herself. She was very angsty and teenager-y....becoming really annoying during key points in the story. She was the primary reason I felt "Meh" about this book.

The kit-n-caboodle: Not sure if I will read the other 2 in this trilogy since I wasnt sucked in by the 1st novel (usually that is a must for me). I wont re-read this one either.

I didn't dislike this book, though I didn't particularly like it, either. I suppose a 2.5 rating would be more accurate. I went in looking for some smut, and got, as Tara said, a lot of repetitiveness about love and feelings, to the point where I got confused about who thought what and I just started to skim. First they were sure the other loved them, then they didn't know because the words "I love you" were never mentioned and it just kind of got tangled all up.

The world building was minimal, and I could have done with a little more information about witches and demons (and vampires) as they seemed to play by slightly different rules than I'm used to. Perhaps I could have overlooked this in favor of the romance, but the romance wasn't a favorite.

I also caught a few typos and that always rankles my inner editor.

I got Ascension as a free download from Amazon on March 25, 2012.

It's the first time I read something like this.I really liked it! Lealandra, the heroine, is a witch close to reach the peak of her powers. But with her counter-balance dead and someone trying to kill her she goes back to her ex-boyfriend to ask for help.Taig, the hero, hasn't forgotten her or gotten over her.He still has feelings for her and so he agrees to help her.
As they try to find who is after Lealandra their feelings intensify and they both aknowledge that ending their relationship had been a mistake. So,Taig helps Lea find the man who is trying to kill her but will he be able to help her survive the ascension or will her powers take over???
It's a worth-reading book and I definitely recommend it!!!Although I'd have loved it more if there was a sequel....

When Taig felt Lea's lips again he knew he was not going to let her get away again 6 long years of suffering had been enough for him, so he decide to help her, against demons, witches or the devil himself but she had stay with him forever.
Lea on the other hand is pissed at him for letting her go, he should have put more of a fight, but when she kissed him, she realize that if he wanted her forever all he had to do was ask.
They go in this quest trying to figure out who and why wants to kill Lea, but also trying to keep their clothes on.

I liked the book its funny, entertaining, but it is not my fave of F. E. Heaton. There is something missing not the sex but, I dont know, pasion?
but if you like paranormal like I do then Read it. Its a good book.

I love Felicity Heaton's books and Ascension was just wonderful. The story is explained in the summary and other reviews so I will stick to my review. This book was a great departure from All the vampire and werewolf novels. I loved the authors world of Witches and how they come into their powers. Having a sexy alpha demon just added to the fun. I could not put the book down once I started. The book has all the excitement, suspense, smexy and romance in a paranormal urban fantasy. Loved the hero and heroine, it's always refreshing when you have a string female lead who is not always second guessing every move she makes and feeling she has.
Anyone who is a fan of Felicty Heaton and similar authors should make this book a must read. Hope there will be a lot more in the series.
