Roger P. Allen's 'Scripts and Strategies in The complete works' presents a comprehensive source of scripts and strategies that can be used by hypnotherapists to build a successful framework for any therapy session. This book or, to be more specific, this revised and updated compendium of Volumes I and II is designed to be of assistance to all therapists as they unlock the possibilities that exist for their clients and help them make significant and beneficial changes to their perceptions and beliefs. Upon compiling it, Allen's ultimate aim was to provide practitioners with the best toolkit of strategies possible, replete with a variety of practical scripts to serve as the basis for their interventions, derived from his own experiences as a therapist. It covers inductions, deepeners and actual scripts for a wide range of cases; from nail biting to insomnia, sports performance to past life recall, speech difficulty to loss and bereavement, pain management to resolving sexual problems, and more. There is a particularly comprehensive section on smoking cessation, including a specimen questionnaire for use during the initial interview as well as useful content for a leaflet on the dangers of smoking to give to clients to take away with them following the session. All of the scripts can be used as they stand, or adapted as necessary for specific situations and for client-specific needs and concerns. Suitable for hypnotherapists of all levels of experience.
Really good book - so helpful when starting to learn how to devise personal scripts for clients. I can see myself using this book for quite a while, dipping into it every now and again, while I get confident in my practice in writing personal screeds. Will qualify as a hypnotherapist (hopefully!) in Sept/Oct so will start working while I continue my next 2 years to be a psychotherapist and trauma specialist. I want to find books as helpful as this more often please! Very useful. Easily understood, straight to the point. Excellent!
Scripts & Strategies in Hypnotherapy: The Complete Works is an outstanding reference for both aspiring and experienced hypnotherapists. Rather than simply presenting theory, Roger P. Allen provides a practical collection of scripts and therapeutic strategies that can be adapted to a wide variety of client needs.
What stood out most was the sheer breadth of topics covered. From smoking cessation and insomnia to pain management, sports performance, grief, and habit change, the book offers a versatile toolkit that therapists can customise rather than follow rigidly. The explanations encourage flexibility and remind readers that every client is unique.
I also appreciated the inclusion of practical resources such as intake questionnaires and client handouts. These additions make the book feel like a genuine clinical companion instead of just a collection of hypnosis scripts. The revised format is well organised, making it easy to locate material for specific situations.
While some scripts may need to be adapted to fit a therapist's individual style or current best practices, the book provides an excellent foundation for developing confidence and expanding one's therapeutic repertoire.
Overall, this is a valuable resource that balances practical application with clinical insight. If you're studying hypnotherapy, building your practice, or simply looking for a comprehensive library of therapeutic scripts, this book deserves a place on your shelf.
The Art of Hypnotherapy: Mastering Client-Centered Techniques is a well-organized and practical guide that emphasizes the importance of tailoring hypnosis to each individual's unique needs. The client-centered approach is one of the book's greatest strengths, reminding readers that meaningful change comes from within the client, with the therapist serving as a skilled facilitator.
The progression from foundational concepts to more advanced techniques makes the material accessible for beginners while still offering valuable insights for experienced practitioners. I also appreciated the clear explanations of suggestion, regression, parts therapy, and subconscious relearning, along with the updated sections covering common therapeutic applications and establishing a safe place for clients.
Although the book is written primarily for hypnotherapists and students of hypnosis, many of the communication and therapeutic principles are relevant to counselors, coaches, and anyone interested in helping others create positive change.
Overall, this is a comprehensive and practical resource that combines solid theory with techniques that can be adapted to real clinical practice. It's an excellent reference for anyone looking to build confidence and skill in client-centered hypnotherapy.
Scripts and Strategies: The Complete Works is a practical reference that offers a wide variety of hypnosis scripts for different situations. I liked that the book covers both the structure of a hypnosis session and examples that can be adapted to meet individual client needs.
The section on smoking cessation was especially detailed, with helpful ideas for both the session itself and the initial client assessment. The scripts are easy to follow and provide a solid starting point without feeling overly rigid.
Overall, this is a useful resource for hypnotherapists who want a collection of practical techniques and ideas. It's well organized, easy to navigate, and a handy reference to keep on the shelf.
