okay first of all, imagine clocking in on your first day of work as a butler in a castle full of creepy wax figures and you gotta deal with multiple murders within a group of people who have been solicited to play a game which is basically "among us" but on steroids.

description

now imagine you’re one of the 8 or so guests and you’re informed you can’t leave the castle where there’s coincidentally wax dolls that look like each of the guests and a seriously unhinged killer is on the loose killing the wax dolls of each guest in the same way they plan to kill you and the other guests

description

and the cherry on top? you have to be trapped in the castle for 4 days and try to solve the murder before all of you are killed off. of course that’s the perfect segue into dumb decisions and ott plot twists.

description

so imagine my fucking surprise on this roller coaster and completely meta ride, when after hajime delivers his iconic line and announces that “all the mysteries have been solved,” the fucking volume ends on a cliffhanger just as the killer is about to be revealed.

description

i'm not gonna lie, i did enjoy this volume and it would have been a solid four stars if not for the damn cliffhanger. yes i have the next volume but i refuse to be forced to start another volume just so i can find out. like can i have my cake and eat it too damn.

Actually there are lots of Kindaichi series. But all of those are still a story of Kindaichi Hajime, a slacker type high school student who has an amazing analysis ability.
He faces so many criminal cases and tried to solve them all.

The strong point of this manga is that the crimes usually uses psychological tricks which made the manga more interesting.

2020 reread: Hajime got invited by Akechi-san to a deduction party at a medieval castle. Everything looks normal until the participants start to die one by one.

Well, for a Kindaichi Case File, this is a pretty stereotype of everyone got invited to participate but end up being murdered.

masih pakai pakem cerita yg biasanya. tapi suka bagian mengelabuhi dengan bonekanya. kalau dibikin film live action sejauh ini cerita vol 12 ini akan jadi yg paling bagus.

Kindaichi’s rival, Superintendent Akechi, invites him to a murder mystery event at a transplanted castle. With a gaggle of sleuths and a cadre of wax figurines on hand, it’s no shock that things soon take a turn for the macabre...

With the murderer’s wick-ed scheme out to make our sleuth look like a drip, Kindaichi’s going to have to burn the candle at both ends to avoid having a meltdown on this one. But does this story hold a candle to its predecessors?

Mark’s Maxim of Mysteries clearly states that the moment a map of the setting is introduced, my brain starts to lose all hope of following the geographic contortions of how the murder could or could not have been committed.

This is perfectly fine Kindaichi, but I struggled to get terribly invested in it. The map thing doesn’t help, coupled with the usual half-assed job Tokyopop did by not translating any of the on-panel text or sound effects.

The suspect pool is far too small - we know three characters are in cahoots from the off and there’s also a ludicrous 17-year-old Columbo knock-off in the mix who’s hardly a likely suspect, so toss in some victims and you’re not left with much.

It’s still fun, though, just a bit of a slog - you can honestly never go wrong with the ‘mystery aficionados involved in a mystery’ set-up. There’s a nifty little mini-caper at the start when Kindaichi needs to pass his classes (and does so in suitably inventive fashion), plus another amusing morsel before the main course, basically mocking the tropes of the genre.

And the solution itself is suitably goofy, which is a positive I assure you, while also going above and beyond the call of duty to make its more ridiculous contrivances seem more plausible (I do arch an eyebrow at the very questionable chemistry at the heart of the denouement).

It’s a decent little book; it’s entirely possible I simply wasn’t in the right headspace for it (although the tragic backstory in this one is eye-rollingly insane [also somebody got super ripped off by their plastic surgeon, just saying]). Basically, I didn’t feel like it was the series at its best.

A very enjoyable locked-room/whodunnit mystery story. There are enough hints throughout the story that the readers should be able to figure out who did it and how, but I didn't guess correctly! This book is still fun.

The proper subtitle should be Kindaichi and Akechi's Pissing Contest: Part 2, in which Miyuki somehow manages to find the strength to keep dealing with these guys.

Cảm thấy vụ án này hơi rối về mặt tình tiết,điều đó làm cho cảm xúc câu chuyện không được trọn vẹn.
