4.5 stars, but this is quintessential Kindaichi so I’ll round it up (it does lack Miyuki, though she gets to help out a couple times).
A reality TV shoot goes horribly wrong and soon, yes, killing is somebody’s business and business is good. Naturally the small group of suspects is isolated by a blizzard, meaning the killer must be... one of them! (Also there’s the third masked man in as many stories. I hadn’t realized how often they went to that well.)
Anyway, this volume is rather significant because it introduces the smug bastard that is Superintendent Akechi, whose incredible arrogance makes him a fantastic foil for Kindaichi as they try to out-sleuth one another to the solution.
We also get the first appearance of Reika Hayami, who mostly exists to annoy Miyuki in her attempts to win over Kindaichi. She doesn’t add much to the mystery, but she’s certainly significant to the series.
And what a mystery! This is SO emblematic of the series, in that everything hinges on the most insanely intricate timing and on top of that it’s got a couple of cracking false solutions before the real one, which is itself so absurd and ludicrous that it is absolutely perfect.
It’s a tremendous example of what this series does so well and as a fun bonus, it has the best cover art of the series (that’s great static). These have been a lot of fun to re-read; I really wish Kodansha would release the rest of series digitally.

Well, my first book of 2019 is a manga. Because reading slumps and TV.
AND IT WAS REALLY GOOD. Honestly, I feel like the endings to these are always kinda dark though? I definitely appreciated how Japanese culture was woven in, but again: I NEED TO SEE MORE REASONING BEHIND THE DEDUCTIONS! NO MORE PLOT HOLES!
Anyways...I missed our main female character in this one. And...that’s really all I have to say right now so bye! And better review to come later😂😂

murder most foul on a reality tv show with an axe. dead-axe. get it?? no? ok. this was pretty enjoyable and i like how each volume so far, takes place in a secluded place with a cast of suspects. makes it more cozy (even with the really dark elements) and easier to focus on the interwoven aspects of the mystery.
However, i gave this one 3 stars because even though the story was touching and sad, i’m noticing a pattern in who the killer is for each volume so far and if that continues this won’t be unpredictable anymore. so hopefully that pattern changes so i can go on reading these. fingers crossed and action.

Each case in this manga is a stand alone mystery, and we are still very early in the series. So while reading in order will be better to understand the recurring characters, it's not necessary to enjoy the individual stories.
Hajime Kindaichi travels to a remote villa during winter break as an intern for a reality tv show, Shock TV. When a supposed prank turns into an actual murder he must team with an old acquaintance from the police force to not only stop the killer, but to do it faster than a new superintendent with something to prove.
Like the previous volumes we get set up and meet key characters upfront and then descend into a tense race against time after the first body hits. One of the things I like most about this series is how it finds unique ways to put little twists on established mystery elements while still retaining a classic feel. Leaving Miyuki home for this one and having a cop on Kindaichi's side for a change shakes up the dynamic a little and makes things interesting. There are also some nice turns the mystery takes during the volume including a wonderfully clever double twist. The characters were strong here and seeing Akechi try to solve the mystery in parallel was interesting.
These stories do require some level of suspension of disbelief, and a key element to this one strains it quite a bit for some readers. Personally I didn't find it much more implausible than some of the things in the first two, but be aware that while things are kept in the realm of reality and proceed logically drama does take precedence when needed. As usual there are clues throughout and while some story details will be beyond deduction the core of the mystery is solvable.
A fair amount of this story hinges on the visuals and the art does a great job conveying atmosphere, tension and all the relevant information.
I really enjoyed Death TV and Kindaichi's adventures are clearly just getting started.

Banyak yang saya belajar dari fail kes ke3 Kindaichi ni masa saya kecik2 comel2 dulu2. Antaranya, saya belajar tentang orang kidal dan jambatan ais (oghe Klate gak panggil mugo nih ghetok ais, mugo ado di Klate so, eh tipu jah 😂).
Alkisah, satu rancangan tv gurauan sedang dijalankan di sebuah rumah agam di kampung terpencil pada musim sejuk. Hajime turut serta sebagai pelakon tambahan menggantikan Nanase dari Kelab Drama.
Di kampung tu terdapat satu legenda tentang Hantu Salji. Walaupun rancangan gurauan tu tidak memerlukan pemakaian kostum Hantu Salji, namun kelibat Hantu Salji muncul di skrin tv rakaman dan membunuh salah seorang pelakon rancangan itu. Kematian meningkat kepada 3 orang lagi selepas beberapa klu dibongkarkan oleh watak baharu iaitu Pegawai Superitenden Akechi.
Watak Kengo Akechi agak menjengkelkan sebab dia asyik berlagak pasal kes di Los Angeles dan suka bertaruh deduksi. Tapi betul juga apa yang dia cakap pasal pakcik Kenmochi yang terlalu mengagungkan Hajime padahal Hajime baru je selesaikan 2 kes. Sebenarnya, Akechi boleh jadi watak yang disukai ramai tetapi disebabkan Hajime adalah watak utama sebenar, terpaksalah penulis buat watak Akechi jadi macam ni supaya dia tak terlalu menonjol mengalahkan watak utama, kan? Tak adil kan penulis buat macam tu kat Akechisayang? (Haha sekali dua kala jadi gedik sket.)
Saya beli jilid 3 yang ni ada kesilapan cetakan. 2 mukasurat akhir hilang. Penerbit gantikannya dalam jilid 5. Kisah coklat Valentine Reika Hayami. Tak mengganggu fail kes pun sebab ia hanya selingan tapi mampu buatkan saya tiba2 mengidam makan coklat. Mujurlah dah ada stok kat rumah. Sekarang juga saya pergi makan 🍫🥰

An incredible ending with a very detailed mystery that has so many plot twists. My 3rd or 4th time reading this one and it never fails to keep it suspenseful and interesting.

Ini adalah buku ketiga dari Detektif Kindaichi edisi premium, berjudul "Kasus Pembunuhan Legenda Setan Salju dari Kindaichi". Topiknya masih tak jauh-jauh dari pembunuhan. Kali ini Kindaichi mendapat rival yang membuatnya panas, yaitu Inspektur Kengo Akechi.
Kengo Akechi adalah atasan baru Inspektur Kenmochi. Ia dari kepolisian pusat dan pernah belajar psikplogi kriminal di Los Angeles. Ia pintar tapi angkuh. Ia yakin misteri pembunuhan itu bisa diselesaikannya sendiri tanpa anak buahnya, Kenmochi, apalagi anak SMA bernama Kindaichi.
Dikisahkan Kindaichi bekerja sambilan sebagai kru stasiun TV. Selama syuting di desa bersalju rupanya ada masalah badai salju sehingga jalur lalu lintas terputus.
Suatu ketika mereka hendak mengerjai aktris seksi bernama Rie Kano. Tak disangka muncul sosok dengan topeng setan salju yang membunuh Rie Kano. Mereka semuanya terkejut. Lalu satu-persatu korban berjatuhan. Ada salah satu pembunuh di antara mereka tapi bagaimana cara ia melakukannya dan apa motifnya?
Tak banyak yang bisa dibagikan ke pembaca tentang petunjuk pembunuhan itu bisa terjadi, kecuali pemilik villa yang merupakan pelukis terkenal dan mengenakan masker karena luka bakarnya. Hal ini menyebabkan ia menjadi salah satu terduga. Tapi lainnya juga bisa jadi pelaku karena si aktris rupanya banyak tak disukai.
Kindaichi yakin pelakunya salah satu di antara mereka. Tapi bagaimana ia membuktikannya. Sementara Kengo terus mengintimidasi Kindaichi dan langsung menunjukkan siapa pelakunya.

Di satu sisi ceritanya sadis bagiku karena setelah terjadi pembunuhan, orang-orang di sekitarnya seperti juga Kindaichi, bersikap biasa saja. Kurang rasa takut, panik, kasihan, dan ngerinya. Padahal pembunuhannya sadis dan itu terjadi di lingkungan mereka. Ketika makin banyak korban juga rasanya biasa saja.
Tak ditunjukkan upaya untuk menghormati mereka yang telah tiada. Ya unsur emosionalnya ke korban kurang nampak. Cerita ini juga sedingin salju, bagus pengungkapan pelakunya tapi rasanya dingin secara emosi.

Cerita kali ini menceritakan Kindaichi menjadi pemeran figuran sekaligus menjadi kru sebuah acara televisi kejutan (kalau jaman sekarang prank kali ya) yang dilakukan di rumah utama seorang pelukis terkenal. Pada saat kru beserta pemain berpindah tempat ke rumah pelukis yang lain terjadilah pembunuhan di rumah utama pelukis terkenal tadi. Saat itu si korban hanya sendiri disana.
Pembunuhan semakin pelik karena TKP Pembunuhan berjarak 20 menit berkendara mobil, sedangkan saat itu hanya korban yg tinggal di TKP. Dan dengan adanya badai salju, penyidikan semakin sulit, sehingga tidak bisa memanggil kepolisian setempat. Untungnya selain Kindaichi ada juga Superintendent Akechi yang juga ikut dalam acara tersebut untuk menyelidiki kasus pembunuhan bahkan ia mengajak Kindaichi taruhan.
Trik pembunuh yang rumit membuat Kindaichi tertinggal dari Superintendent Akechi yang sudah mendekati konklusi dari siapa pelaku sebenarnya. Apakah Kindaichi akan kalah dengan seorang detektif dari kepolisian pusat? Mampukah Kindaichi menemukan siapa pelaku sebenarnya? Kamu harus baca komik ini hingga tuntas.
Jujur saja menurut saya seri ketiga ini lebih baik dari yang nomor dua.

2019 reread: The case & story in this one move a lot faster than expected. We also introduced to Akechi for the first time. He is a lot more arrogant & cocky than I remembered. In my mind, he was this calm, serious & highly intelligent police officer. I guess that was how he was pictured in later volume, may be.

The most interesting part was the ice bridge: ropes covered with straw and snow and then frozen using river water. But I still have a hard time believing that girl could do it alone, overnight, with only one person noticing. (And after all that hard work, she had enough energy to haul his dead body around!)

Sự tuyệt vọng vì bị ruồng bỏ đã biến một cô bé 10 tuổi trở thành quỷ dạ xoa. Bất lực chứng kiến người mẹ yêu quý phải chết trước mặt mình, trong lòng cô luôn có một cơn bão tuyết của chính sự tuyệt vọng đó và lòng căm phẫn. Có thể nói những con người ích kỉ, tham lam đã tước đi trái tim thuần khiết lẫn hạnh phúc của một đứa trẻ.

Rất hay,mình bị cuốn vào câu chuyện luôn...đọc liên hồi mà không dừng được.Hình ảnh "Lão tuyết" tràn đầy lòng thù hận hay thật đấy.Với cả lời truyền đạt của Kindaichi ở cuối cũng rất ý nghĩa nữa....
