Charlotte Ivey #2

Two Hearts Wild

Rate this book
Bing. Bang. Boom. That’s how Charlotte’s life is going.

First, her summer romance lands on the rocks, because reality is, she has bills to pay - and that’s hard to do when you're an archaeologist living in rural East Texas. Bing.

Then an opportunity drops in on her she can’t say no to, because she signed a contract. But, in a weird way, this is her passion - digging up bones and researching ancient history - even if it’s not exactly her field of expertise. So she takes the job. Bang.

And now the BOOM. Her old colleague is back from the dead, working with a past nemesis. She’s allied herself with his brother (does he know Alaric’s alive?) and between them all are mammoth bones, millions of dollars, and Charlotte’s secret hunt for a legendary - and maybe even mythical - Native American artifact.

Sure, she’s distracted by the promise of gold and history. But she can totally handle hiking the wild mountains, a sexy Scot, grizzly bears, avalanches, death threats, and everything else that comes with chasing ghosts...right?

A few years ago Sherry had an epiphany. Life is what you make it- and she was ready to make it HERS. So, she grabbed the bull by the horns and quit her job at a tech startup to pursue personal passions and adventure dreams. She successfully taught herself graphic design. She hiked 558 miles through southern California on the Pacific Crest Trail. She wrote some romances and self-published them.

Roped into a mysterious archaeological dig by the British, Texas native Dr. Ivey is teamed up with a Scottish super spy, Jamie, a man she desperately wants but cannot have. While she’s in Wyoming, one of the locals asks for her help in uncovering an ancient Native American treasure that has fallen to the realm of myths. That’s just the beginning of this adventurous story.

Brown writes in present tense and does a good job of developing Charlotte’s character into a well rounded Texan who is independent and self reliant. Dr Ivey is rather like a female Indiana Jones who teaches school when she’s not exploring a new “dig site.” She’s also not afraid to skirt convention when it comes to taking on a summer job to help pay the bills.

The pace of the novel moves quickly as Charlotte and Jamie try to discover what is hidden out in the desert at this ‘competing’ archaeological site. There are a number of interesting individuals who spring up along the journey to keep the story moving and add more danger and suspense into the mix. It certainly had me turning the pages to see what happened next.

After her last crazy, unexpected adventure, Charlotte is ready for a break. Waitress for the rest of the summer, then start teaching again in the fall. But one day, she receives a phone call telling her that, as per her contract (which she doesn’t remember signing), she’s obligated to manage a dig in Wyoming as a spy for the British government. Unwillingly, she goes and learns of the Sundance wheel from the Native Americans she’s working with that manage a dude ranch. They plan to open a huge museum dedicated to the original Native Americans, and hope to feature the Sundance wheel there. Can Charlotte manage to maintain her mission as a spy and find this Sundance wheel while keeping her distance from the engaged hunk she’s so attracted to?

I feel Charlotte may not have changed all that much, but she did endure some character development and pride as she did her job confidently and didn’t allow for mansplaining. I really enjoyed this second installment in the Charlotte Ivey series, and can’t wait to read the next one!

Just as exciting as the first book of the Charlotte Ivey series, House of Sundance did not disappoint! Dr. Charlotte Ivey is pulled away from her calm, normal life in Texas yet again to go on a wild adventure in Wyoming. She finds herself tangled up in heart throbbing moments with a sexy undercover spy and life threatening situations that make her wonder if she'll ever make it back to Texas alive. And when she sees someone she never thought she'd see again, it puts a whole bigger twist on everything she thought she knew.
