Falling through time was part of her plan. Falling for him was out of the question.
2023
Growing up an orphan, the only family Emilie Wilshire ever had was her best friend, Caitriona. But ever since Cait fell through the veil of time, Emilie’s attempts to follow have fallen flat. The same cave that pulled her friend through rejects Emilie every time. Now she’ll never see Cait again or meet her son, Lucas. Living alone in a small flat in the heart of Edinburgh, Emilie works as a tour guide and spends her nights researching her geology, making a fascinating discovery: she is a descendant of Caitriona’s son.
After leading a tour of Edinburgh’s haunted underground vaults, a terrifying encounter leaves Emilie with a head injury. When she awakens, she finds herself in another place and time—Cait’s time. However, Emilie’s reunion with Cait is compromised when she discovers why she was sent back in time: Lucas is in danger, and only Emilie can save him. If she fails, her entire family line disappears—including herself.
686 AD
Goodwin Mac Dougal has long been satisfied with his life as a warrior, guard to the royal family, best friend to the king, and casual relationships with women. But ever since King Brodyn fell in love with a woman from the future, Goodwin has been restless, seeking more from life than fighting enemies and meaningless encounters with women. But in this wee village, no lass strikes his fancy.
When a strange woman arrives, bound and slung across another warrior’s horse, Goodwin is immediately drawn to this mysterious woman—and he knows that wherever she is from, it is not the year 686. She claims to know Queen Caitriona, and Goodwin recognizes her odd ways. Emilie, a beauty unlike any other, is from the future.
Though she has a bonny face, her arrival means danger looms. When he’s tasked with guarding her, Goodwin must also guard his heart, for she will return home soon, and their intense connection may be more dangerous than the enemy lying in their midst.

Her happy place is the Renaissance Faire, where you can find her at the joust, rooting for the shirtless highlander in a kilt.
The setting an concept behind this series is fun and exciting. I've always wanted a time travel series that focuses on different couples, and that is exactly what I got with these books. Unfortunately, this plot dragged quite a bit for me. The third act breakup concluded, only for there to be a fourth act break up. Pride's writing is what kept me invested. They are excellent with the various character's thought processes and perspectives. While this particular installment wasn't a win for me, I am excited to read more of this series and from this author in the future.
Thank you Mia Pride, Dragonblade Publishing, and Netgalley for my advanced review copy. My opinions are my own.
Plot - 3 Writing and Editing - 4 Character Development - 4 Personal Bias - 2 Final Score - 3.25
This book was slightly better than the first but only just. It had all the same issues like the first one. Insta love, misunderstandings, no world building, rushed ending. The idea is great but the execution falls short. This is a basic story that any developmental editor worth their salt would beef up and make into a great book. That did not happen here. On to the next one. After that I will be done with this author.
After reading and loving the first book in this series, I couldn't wait to read book #2 and it was just as good as the first one!! This time it's Goodwin and Emilie's story and I have to say, there's not a dull moment throughout the book. Mia Pride is such a talented author and I've loved every book of hers that I've read so far. I especially love the time travel stories.
I adored Emilie, what a character she is! I also loved Goodwin and his protective side, he's so honorable!! Two worlds collide when Emilie, from present day 2023, and Goodwin, from 686 AD, meet and experience mutual attraction but it certainly won't be an easy time before they can finally have their HEA. Oh, and I'm still giggling at the Twinkies and Goodwin thinking his soul is being captured when Emile takes his picture with her cell phone. lol
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The second book follows Emilie as she falls into the past to find her friend Cait in 686 AD. To protect her future, she's there to save Cait's child, Lucas. Goodwin MacDougal claims Emilie for his own. He's never been in love before, but it's not a smooth transition when Emilie puts her life in danger, not once, but twice. Will she stay or will she go back to 2023? It's a matter of survival. Mild descriptive sex. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.

The second book in the series & whilst it could be read on its own I’d recommend reading Cait’s story first. Another very well written page turner. The characters are well portrayed & have depth. I loved both Goodwin & Emilie & loved their journey to a HEA. It wasn't easy, there’s lots of adventure & danger & things are tense but there is humour interlaced with the tension. A captivating, engrossing read & a lovely romance My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I did enjoy the first book in the series more maybe because so unique. Even though book 2 of the series it is a stand alone. Has interesting main and secondary characters. I loved the commonsense of the h in making decisions. The H was honorable and loyal to those he protected. I can't wait for the H's sister story.
What is unique in the series, is the time travel stories are linked with friends. Usually you have separate stories. In this two friends separately time travel back 1400 years to the same village. Each are swept back in time differently.
Story has some humor, especially about her cell phone. But, mostly jealous people who don't want the H/h to be together and cause all kinds of havoc.
Suspenseful at times, intrigue, violence, twist on a villain, some romance and lovemaking outside of marriage - heat level 4 out of 5. The Lord's name used in vain a few times. Once the wrong woman's name was used and the information how old the h was when she lost her adopted parents. She was age 10 and then she was age 17.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA wasn't smooth, some romance and steam. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you some tidbits about the story for you to decide to purchase. (ljb)
Mia Pride was meant to write time travel. The first book was really good, but this book was exceptionally fantastic. Bringing a woman from 2023 back to the time of the Picts can't be easy, but Ms. Pride makes it look so simple. From the moment I opened this book, I was hooked. I could not stop reading. I hung off of every word, not sure what would come next, and it was always something that was better than the time before. The characters were brilliant, and it was like coming home to family because the same people were in this book, and I already felt like I knew them. If you love time, travel, and history, then you won't want to pass this amazing book up. I can't wait for the next book, Ms. Pride
Emilie has been very sad since her friend vanished. She has tried everything to follow her with no luck.
Staying in Scotland is her way of staying close by.
Goodwin is a warrior and guard to the king and his family. He's beginning to hope there could be more to life than fighting.
This is a time-travel romance and the second book in a series. You don't need to have read the previous one to enjoy this but personally I think I would have.
The characters are strong but funny as well. The difference in time is huge but maybe modern people aren't that different from the ancient ones.
There is plenty of danger and adventure to go with the romance.
I came across this series purely by accident but was quickly hooked. Although this is not usually the time period I read with historical fiction, this time-travel romance provides further insight into history of the time. This story focuses on Goodwin and Emelie. Both are searching for a connection and a place to belong. Exciting and engaging, I'm loving on this one with 5 stars. I wonder who's next in this adventure?
I did enjoy the gist of the plot but maybe not the delivery. I found the love of the hero and heroine to be beautiful but the twists that continued to separate them was as annoying as was their childish behavior towards each other. Both rejected the idea of loving each other. Actually too many times. It got old and made me toil to finish it. And still not sure if I liked the ending or just liked the end.
This is a delightful, time travel, romantic adventure. Emilie goes from 2023 to 686 and meets Goodwin, the love of her life. There will be danger and treachery. Will Emilie survive her journey through time? Does she return to the 21st century, or does she stay in the past with the man she loves?
I loved the story. It kept me turning the pages. I recommend it to those who like time travel adventures and historical romances.
I had this series on my TBR list for a while. It kept showing up on my FB feed, so I thought I would give it a go. So glad I did. It is a good series. I enjoyed book #2 better than 1. The time travel part with the time loop, for me, was a little off. Truly enjoyed the characters and looking forward to reading more of Mia’s books.
Book 2 in this series is full of action and drama from the very beginning.
Seeing Emilie reunited with her best friend Caitriona was great. Emilie goes through so many trials and calamities after falling back in time. Seeing her get a HEA and a family was great.
Carolina's fried finally joins her in 686 thanks to a banshee. Her arrival reveals new danger to the family but despite this romance between she and Goodwin can't be ignored. A story filled with romance and danger resulting in keeping you turning pages to see what happens next. A good sequel to the series first book with more revelations.
Ronan or Ronin? Which is it? And what colour are the main characters’ eyes? It’s mentioned a zillion times, but it’s not settled until the final third of the book. Other than that it’s a good story. I wish there was more on the village and clothing, but I did skip the 1st book. Maybe there’s more in there.
This was a good book. Goodwin and Emilie went through a lot to be together. It was love at first sight but getting married to a evil man made it hard. It was a interesting story
Emilie fell by some stones at her job and ended in a cave where her best friend disappeared. As she walked out she let a star mead her and she was with her friend in 686 AD. She and Goodwin fell in love. Now she doesn’t want to go back to the future.
Eventually no matter the time or place we all find love. A story full of love, jealousy, treachery and deceit. All it took was falling through the stones.
