The Distance Between Dreams

Rate this book
It's the forbidden romance on action-packed steroids...

Everly Ryan is one of the first females to have ever finished BUD/S, the Navy Seal's most elite training school. Now she is being placed with an operational Seal team in an experimental military research project. This is what she signed up for. But, THE team is not happy about it.

Her commander is dead-set against females in active combat situations, and he's going to do more than get her off his team. He wants her out of the Seals altogether. He isn't prepared for the begrudging admiration and straight-up sexual attraction he feels for her. He'll deny everything he feels, pull out all the stops, and do everything in his power to get her out of the line of fire.

Everly and Broussard navigate bar-room brawls, hazing shenanigans, training ops, active combat zone missions, and their own growing and powerful sexual attraction while being willfully opposed to the other. Who will come out on top in their own battle of love?

She's the first of her kind. A female Navy SEAL. Her heart is that of a warrior but the challenges she faces will test not her ability to serve, but her ability to love. Journey with Everly Ryan while she discovers that once dreams are gone, the distance to another is the best adventure.

The Distance Between Dreams was a pleasant surprise for me. Romance novels are a rare thing in my collection but I’m happy to have this one.
The story is starts out with Ryan, being introduced to her C.O. (commanding officer) as she is one of the first one women to join the Navy SEALS. As one would think there isn’t a warm reception to her joining the team. Her C.O. Rousseau is not happy to have her at all as he abruptly enters the story with his yelling and swearing.
Their journey together is tense as she joins the crew but we get to know the characters in ways you wouldn’t think. You become attached to them really. Ryan finds herself in a few situations that brings the two emotionally closer.
The “turn” that happens in the story leads to a twist I wasn’t excepting and still not sure how I feel about it but it leads to something better and it made me really like the story. The atmosphere of world the complete and real, it’s just like being there, even in deployment. And the characters are also don’t conform to any stereotypes. Reasons behind actions aren’t what you think and that’s what makes this book the read you have been looking for .
Wanted to make it a 4.5 but it doesn't do .5's

I've got to say, I thought I had read it all. This is definitely a first for me. Military romance. That has a ring to it. And it was one hell of a first. Great work.

If you read romance novels, you have probably read this story before: girl meets boy, girl hates boy, girl also happens to find the boy very attractive, girl and boy fall in love (after having some very hot sex). What I liked about this novel, though, is that the main character is extremely tough. She is a Navy SEAL, and can more than keep up with the guys in her all-male unit. I also liked that this is not all there is to her. When her military dreams fall apart, she must find a new dream, and figure out who she is. Although this is a romance novel, it is about more than that: it is about learning who you are and who you will be even if your life doesn’t turn out the way you planned.

When it comes to the romance aspect, I was a little turned off by the main character’s love interest at first, because he seemed like a bit TOO much of a jerk, but the alternating perspectives in the novel help to alleviate this problem. We get to see how both characters really feel about each other through their own perspectives and why they act the way they do. This helps you to see why they like each other beneath their initial animosity, as well as how much chemistry they have.

Overall it was a fun, sexy read with a good message.

Everly Ryan isn't into having a cookie cutter life like her sisters have, the marriage, a passel of kids, and the forever home with the white picket fence... she just can't imagine that life being fulfilling. She prefers the life that she has created for herself, the one that leads her into dangerous territory in foreign lands, toting a rifle, and hunting down and taking care of bad guys. No one seems to understand her need to serve, her family all thinks she needs to give it up for a normal life like they have, but nothing gives her a sense of purpose the way being a SEAL does. Then the unthinkable happens and her dream is taken away from her, and she is left confused, hurt, and unable to let go of her past and find the courage to create a new one.

The Distance Between Dreams is a poignant tale that will speak to your heart, fill you with inspiration, and leave you forever moved! I thoroughly enjoyed this first time read, it gripped me from the very first page, and held on tightly until the last, it was such an enjoyable read. It is one of the most impressive first read that I have had the pleasure of settling down with this year, I highly recommend you take a chance on this one, it's sure to warm your heart!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

This book was such a let down. The plot is the first ever Navy Seal female graduate and her Captain developing feelings for eachother but not able to act on them with being on the same team. The first 1/3 of the book was pretty good - it had just enough military references, romance, and feminism in it with decent supporting details. But the last 2/3 was just bad - triple the amount of typos, instant-love, and the FMC who fought for women equality and was the first to move on from BUD/s then goes onto be in multi-page Playboy Magazine? Nude? absolutely not. It was such a disgrace and 360' from how she was written about in the rest of the book. There were also just random sub-plots thrown everywhere including the Captain/MMC suddenly having a kid? Especially after it was noted the FMC never wanted kids EVER. The death of a fellow team member was just barely touched on as well. It just didn't feel complete or well written. Disapointing but I can't rate it higher after the playboy BS and complete change of story.. it truely felt like it was written but 2 different authors than 1. This was a disrespectful military book.

Extraordinarily well written military romance, and so much more

Sherry L Brown did a wonderful job, in this her debut novel. A unique storyline, masterfully written with a compelling plot and well developed characters. Ryan and Broussard have chemistry from their very first meet. However he h her CO and a relationship taboo.
I loved how she wove Ryan's acceptance by her team into the fabric of the story. Too we see a transformation in Broussard and his goals in life. This was truly a remarkable story and belongs on everyone's TBR list.
I was fortunate to be gifted the book by the author and eagerly look forward to reading her next book.

I was hooked, it was so much of everything

This was an incredible journey. Everly's story, what started it, what prompted her to become an amazing Seal. Her acceptance into, not just onto the team. I couldn't put it down, it was kickass, it was heartbreaking, it was so good. Her and her team lead formed a bond that neither was looking or prepared for. The descriptions, the characters all worked beautifully to make me really see it all.
I could have used more at the end, or an epilogue would have been great in my opinion.
Very good, Ms. Brown and I look forward to reading more.

Great military romance about the first female Navy seal. Everly Ryan must pioneer the difficult path of entering a male dominated field with ferocious feminist take on the world. She is an extremely deep and relateable character. What prompted her to go into the Seals is a deep and incredible story (I won't post any spoilers).

She is unsatisfied with the life her sisters lead, the stereotypical picket fence, marriage, kids, etc. She wants to trail blaze her own path, beating down America's enemies. And she must deal with the taboo nature of her relationship while maintaining her career. A very fascinating story. I found it hard to put down.

Forget the movie - Everly is the real deal female SEAL

Driven by grief and a need to honor her loved one, Everly perseveres to become the first female SEAL. Her accomplishment notwithstanding her commanding officer Eric doesn't want her on the team. Quit isn't in her vocabulary and she shows her fellow SEALs and her CO what she's made of. Eric may not believe women should serve as Tier One operators but Everly earns her place on the team and in his heart. Their romance is forbidden but can't be denied. They also discover the obstacles against her are as dangerous as the tangoes they hunt.

I have watch documentaries and movies featuring navy seals so I know it’s not easy to become one.
I was intrigued by the blurb, she’s the first of her kind, female navy seal. Women in male dominated team makes for an interesting read.
For a debut novel it was ok I did like Ryan, she’s pretty kick ass character deserving of being a navy seal, Eric her commander is a great leader and the two of them have great chemistry. I found it a little slow in some part and the story will need to be amped up if there is any more in this series.

Obviously, I'm a bit biased because I wrote this book, but if you are looking for a fast-paced, quick read with loads of action and a totally scrumptious leading man - this is it. It's a bit untraditional for romance, in that the leading lady is strong- A female Navy SEAL- and she is a one-of-a-kind, take-charge, no-holes-barred, anti-damsel-in-distress.
