Rate this book
Winner of the 28th annual International 3-Day Novel Contest, held every Labor Day weekend around the world. In this satire on the monsters of working life, Warren is an unproductive werewolf who is demoted to a highly undesirable work the day shift. Is it the end of his career, or a chance to scare up a new identity? This funny novel is about the ragtag underdogs of a claustro-phobic mummy, a distractible zombie, and other incompetent monsters who find new truths to life on the dark side.

A wonderful romp that should become a Halloween classic.

What do a zombie, a werewolf, a demon, a gnome, bigfoot, a witch, barnacle-man and a mummy have in common?

They all live and love in the small Pacific Northwest town of Stevens' Ferry.

The chapters are episodic; each chapter nodding to the preceding chapter(s)...and a true inspiration as to what can be done, written in three days' time.

It was a bit of a shaky beginning but quickly became a very amusing read. Each chapter is of a different story that are all interconnected by being some sort of fantastical or mythical character's experience in a town of Steven's Ferry. A few of the stories aren't really too interesting, but overall quite an amusing quick read.

A little up and down, but overall impressive considering it was written in just three (3!!!) Days. The books gets better and better right up until the end. Underwood definitely saved the best for last I think. A quick fun read perfect for fall amd Halloween season.

More a series of interconnected short stories than a novel, I enjoyed this more than I originally expected. Some of the stories were quite cute and clever and all of them were worth reading.

A wonderful short and darling collection of stories from the monster perspective. Excellent satire, one to purchase for sharing with others and children.

A slice of mythical/mystical monsters lives, the fact that it takes place in my corner of the PNW and many of the stories are from Stevens ferry is amusing, seeing as I always found going to Stevens Ferry its own adventure. A set funny short stories a tiny bit of scary sprinkled across here and there.

Wonderful collection of short stories. They're nominally in the horror vein, but they're way more intelligent than the usual thing, and not gory. I love the frazzled zombie mom, who's just trying to keep her family together. The werewolf who just isn't into his work is great, too.

This is a very witty well written book. A lot of fun to read with enjoyable characters. Jan Underwood is a very clever writter. This book won the 3 day novel contest. Wow 3 days! I know Jan as well and yes she is witty in person too.

I now have a renewed interest in fiction. Jan's characters are so real, and fun! I certainly never thought I would want to read anything about zombies, mummies, or werewolves...but she made it very intriguing. I read it in one sitting!

Monsters, acting a lot like people you know, do their best to get through another day in these droll, inter-twined short stories. A splendid anecdote to the monster-fiction-that-takes-itself-too-seriously fad.

So original and so worth the time I bought it for all my friends. If you read the first story and aren't moved to read the rest of the book you may be part Zombie yourself.
