She used to be known as the Blithe Baby. Now she’s something more, and that’s not a good thing.
Seeing the world through new eyes, Sophia Blithe has found love, found hope, and found a life that she never new she would have with Declan Sterling, a Sidhe boy with indigo eyes and magic in his touch. But, she should know by now that life never plays out how you want it to.
When the new world she knows, and the old world she remembers begins to crumble around her, Sophia will lose almost everything that’s ever mattered to her, and will be forced to make a decision that will forever change the course of not just her life, but also the lives of those she loves the most.
S.L. Naeole has always loved the smell of books, the feel of books, and the destination that a book is guaranteed to take you. She knew from an early age that she was meant to write, to create those very same books she loved so much and vowed that one day, she would.
Now, after getting married and starting a family, she has finally made her dream come true. As the author of Falling From Grace, she's found a venue with which to allow her dreams to become the reader's, and transport them to worlds and lives where fantasy and reality blend seamlessly. With several more books in the works, including three sequels to Falling From Grace, she's hoping to give to her fans the same desire and affection for the written word that she had as a child.
S.L. Naeole writes from her home in Hawai'i, with her husband, four children, and cat by her side cheering her on and providing endless amounts of inspiration.
Her third book, Black Halo, book three in the Grace Series, is due to be released August 31st, 2010.
Okaaayy...Ms. Naeole if this continues then I won't get any sleep...EVER!!
Ok, so yes, I stayed up until 3 am finishing this book last night. And I stayed up until 3 am the previous day to finish Gossamer. BUT, Damselfly had a much more...uh, severe...impact on my. I'd stay away from fragile objects while you read this, and make that do not disturb sign REALLY big! I was crying, yelling, laughing, hugging my kindle to my chest, and getting ready to punch everything near me. Luckily for me it was a soft pillow.
Ms. Naeole can't give her characters, or readers, a break, but I don't really mind. Okay, I kinda do. But if I didn't care about my characters what kind of a reader would that make me?
The thing that I really like about this is that there's no obvious enemy, and that's just like life. In life, nothing is black and white - good and bad - and there's a bit of good and bad in everyone. These characters all have dangerous sides to them, they have good and bad, and there's no specific enemy out to kill someone. It's not like: oh it's the (blah)'s against the (blah)'s and her BF is secretly with the evil (blah)'s and blah. Rather, it's just everything that makes the story, there's something she's fighting against, but it's not a visible source, it has no name and can't be defeated, really. And that's what I really like.
Okay, NOW for what the story is....(DUHN DUHN DUUUHHHHNNNN)
Sophia's life was going great...well, better than it had ever been before. Sure, there were problems, but she had Dex, and Joel had Astor, and Jackson was gone from her life. So what happens when someone tries to kill her and then she has amnesia, so the last thing she remembers is the fair? What happens when she can't remember that she loves Dex, and she still thinks she's with Jackson? But...is that really the biggest issue? What happens when she starts speaking and writing a strange language? Is she really crazy? Just like her mother....
The first book in this series really captured me. The abuse story was a little hard to stomach because S.L. Naeole really does a great job of making the reader squirm and feel uncomfortable reading about such difficult subject matter. But for me, DAMSELFLY fell short. I know it served its purpose in setting up the rest of the series, but all of the unnecessary (in my opinion) death and destruction that occurred at the beginning of the novel, really turned me off. I think Dex is great, but Sophia annoyed me greatly this time around. I also thought it was a little hard to follow at times. A little disappointed, but there is no denying S.L. Naeole is still a very talented writer that tackles difficult issues and complicated plot lines.
Whoa! What an emotional rollercoaster ride this was! And did I expect anything less? Nope! Ms. Naeole leaves no emotion untouched, expect the unexpected everytime. And I cannot believe the cliffhanger at the end of this book! I can't wait for the next book to come out, it's literally going to kill me to wait for this, haha.
I love that Sophia's character gets to grow into herself into this book. No longer is she as unconfident as she was in the first one and she doesn't even let Dex or anyone else walk all over her or tell her what she wants. She's still in for a lot of heartbreak, and this part kills me. I have a somewhat similar background to her and so reading her story reopened a few scars for me, maybe that's why I've loved her story so much.
Anyway, her whole family dynamics is messed up, but I really love how things work on in this area. I'd love to see "Dad" get more and I hope maybe there's more on that area, lol, I think he got off to easy. The EX is where he needs to be, the sibs are out of harms way, for the most part and Sophia is ready to take on her destiny, how painful and lonely as that may be. This is the part where I'm hoping things in the storyline change. I love where the man/boy is willing to go to all lengths to fight and change things and it's the girl that is trying to go with destiny. It will be interesting to see where Ms. Naeole takes things on this one and the happy ending she gives to all included. Don't get me wrong, I know the struggles she gonna give are gonna be amazing, but in the end it will all be worth it!! :)
I haven't read another book out there like this one. I made sure to re-read Gossamer before I picked up this exciting book 2, and boy did this one just jump right in where the previous left off. I think this book just about covered all of the major conflicts that can happen in a book...love, death, heartbreak, family feuds, amnesia, and let me just throw love in there one more time! I am eagerly awaiting the next in this beautiful story and have high hopes that love will conquer all.
OMG I read in one day, didn't fall asleep till almost 3 in the morning, cried and cried. Why can't Sophia catch a break. S.L. Naeole has done an amazing job again, keep the reader entranced, engrossed until the end. Love it, love it, love it.
AWESOME! This one was sooo good, and the ending was heart tugging. It is going to be another book that I will be looking forward for the next, since it leaves you hanging to wondering what could possibly happen next for Fee.
"I will stop time in it's tracks to be with you". I loved the descriptive depth of this book. In a story for Older YA we are reminded that Fairies are definitely not all like tinkerbell and that sometimes sacrifices have to be made for love.
