<< There will be an blatantly unmistakable warning before that portion of my review, so don't be worried that I'll ruin it for you. Thanks! >>

This was my absolute favorite book at a very young age. I knew where it was located at each of the three libraries where we went, and checked it out each time. Before being able to read on my own, the story's rhythm, predictability, and cadence, made it easy to memorize the simple dialog. Since the illustrations are beautiful with enough color and content for a toddler (or even an adult) to enjoy, I'd have guessed the book would have gotten more publicity and praise. The illustrations are detailed, but nowhere near the extent of Graeme Base's "Animalia" or "The Eleventh Hour."

"Better Move On, Frog" was published the same year I was born: 1982. Because of the animals in this book, it's sure to be delightful for the right age group. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!

To me, this book bears some similarity to P.D. Eastman's "Are You My Mother?". In that book, a baby bird is searching to find his mother by asking all manner of creatures if he was theirs. Toddlers can chime in and say, "No, the dog isn't his mother!"

"Better Move On, Frog" is centered on a frog searching to find himself a suitable home. He visits each potential home only to find it occupied by other animals who then traipse along behind him while he continues his search. Toddlers can actively participate by guessing if Frog could live, for example, in a distinctively shaped mouse hole in the baseboard. "No, mice live there!," the children will say.

This is most certainly the first book that I ever thought of as 'my favorite'.

I've had this book in my library since I was a little kid. The proof showing how much I loved it is in the fact that the book has survived countless opportunities to get destroyed through neglect, or lost in a move, or simply given away due to lack of interest. Today I had the pleasure of rereading the book for the millionth time as research/inspiration for my picture book project in my final undergraduate illustration course. It was just as fun as ever, with lovely illustrations and a simple happy ending. Also, I think the dedication at the beginning (to another Hutchins) contributed to my positive feelings for the book as a child :3

A frog is trying to find a home and comes upon various holes. You see pairs of eyes in the holes and then on the next page you find out who is already living there and the frog moves on to the next option. Cute story to guess which animals live in which habitat.

This was one of my favorite books as a child. This is a story about a frog who is looking for a new home and along the way he encounters many other animals in their homes. The classic line through out the book is "Better move on frog this home is full of....". I remember reading this with my parents and because there is a common theme throughout I was about to share the reading duties and interact with the reading of this book. This is a great children's book and one that I am sure I will read to my children someday.

This is one my childhood favorites! My mom and I would always read this before I went to bed and this is one of the first books that I learned to read. It is a very simple picture book of a frog looking for his home. He comes in contact with a number of different animals that tell him to "move on". It has a lot repetition and simple language for early readers, always a fun classic!

It's so much fun reading picture books from my childhood with Raspberry! She liked this one a lot. I personally enjoyed my own "This is Sparta!" joke around the second-to-last page.
