He had no intentions of marrying, especially not the girl next door.

Miss Sarah Brown is the insignificant daughter of an insignificant knight. With a small dowry and an unremarkable appearance, she has little hope of marrying better than a vicar or a solicitor. When her father announces that she is to have a London Season, she allows herself to hope for something more. Surely in the ballrooms of London, there is a gentleman of wealth who will make her a proper match. She need only to discover how to draw the gentleman’s attention to her. But that is not so easily done until her best friend comes up with a plan. Sarah simply needs to learn how to flirt. While it seems ridiculous, if it results in the desired match, it seems like a risk worth taking.

Reginald Thornbeck, the Earl of Stoke-on-Trent, has no plans of marrying. At least not anytime soon. He enjoys his life as a bachelor far too much. But as his sister’s guardian, he is responsible for presenting her at court and giving her a Season. Thankfully her best friend, Sarah, will be in London at the same time—allowing Reginald more time in the card room, and less time in the ballroom. But when Reginald learns of his sister’s idiotic plans to help Sarah woo a gentleman, he has no choice but to intervene.

As Reginald spends time instructing Sarah, he realizes that bachelorhood might not be as desirable as he previously thought. Now he must try to convince Sarah that she can set her sights higher than a vicar or a solicitor. But the task proves more difficult than he imagined.

Flirting is an art!

This is an adorable book. Sarah and Reginald are an unlikely couple who are easy to like and root for.

They have known each other for years. In the country they are neighbors. Sarah also happens to be the best friend of Reginald's sister.

When Reginald begins to teach Sarah the proper way to flirt, he doesn't plan on falling in love with her. The lessons were blush worthy. The chemistry between them reminded me of falling in love with my husband.

I'm pretty sure that a smile and giggles are guaranteed while reading this book.

I recommend this book to everyone! If you like witty banter, stolen kisses, and tons of flirting, give this book a try!

This was fun. Cute. Swoony. Loved it! Main characters, plot, introduction to characters in the rest of the series… it all worked so well here (and especially that last one doesn’t happen often!)

(Except Mariah. She’s not my fave. And that ending scene with her?? 😒😒😒)

Two books in, and I am pretty sure I have a favorite Regency author now. 😁

This was one of my favorites of Mindy’s!! It was sweet, scandalous, sassy, irritating, swooney…all the things that perfectly rounds out a book. I LOVED the characters, except for one whom I really want to punch in the face for specific reasons I will not go into.

Here are alot of the Characters in the book. I wanted to make some sort of key so when the other books release, I can go back and look at who is who.

Earl Reginald Thornbeck (Regs)~He was SO great! Not always a perfect gentleman and played the perfect “teacher” but adoringly sweet. He is the MMC of this book.

Ben Berwick~ One of Reginalds Gents. Seems good humored, helpful and loyal to the Gents.

Viscount Montcort (Cort)~ His name appears in the book alot, and he often makes fun of Reginald. He is one of the gents, but not alot is known about him.

Marquess Ragsdale (Rags)~ This is who I do not like and for very good reason. He is a scrooge and not a very nice guy. But he is one of the gents and is respected amongst the ton.

Lady Mariah Eloise Margaret Thornbeck~ Sister to Reginald and best friends to Sarah Brown. Not always the kindest, and sometimes a bit snobbish, but loves her brother and her friend. Because of her position propriety is sometimes forgotten.

Lord Ponsonby (Ponsy)~ Lone man out in group of friends, but still a Gent. He is loyal to all of them and around when needed by them all, especially when Regs needs to confide in someone.

Sir Winston and Lady Brown~ Parents of Sarah Brown. They have a good relationship with each-other. Sir Winston was a gentleman who was Knighted later in his life, an “adopted” member of the peerage.

Sarah Brown~ Best friend of Mariah and daughter to the Browns. Because if her position, she is weary of the ton and doesn’t always feel like she quite fits in. She does whatever Mariah wants and puts up with her snubs. I love Sarah (She is the heroine of this book).

Lord Muckrake~ Just like his name states, he is a tall dark and handsome good for nothin’ rake. We do not like him.

Mr. Charlie Bancroft~ Brother to Madeline, and mentioned alot in the book. But we don’t really get to know his character yet. One of the Gents.

Miss Madeline Bancroft~ Very nice young lady who is Charlies sister. She is not out in society yet (she will be out next season) but becomes quick friends with Madeline and Sarah.

Lord Colin Heatherton~ Reginalds best friend of the group of Gents. He is not in most of the book because he is on a trip with his mother. He recently lost his father (which is a sore spot). Excited to hear more of his story.

I am really excited to read all of the characters in this books stories!! I loved the characters and even though I don’t know them all yet, I can’t wait to get to know them and see their tales unfold.

*I received a copy of this book as an ARC reviewer, but a positive review wasn’t required. All thoughts are solely what I personally thought of this beautiful book.❤️❤️❤️ Thank You Mindy for the beautiful book!! You are amazing!

This book is supposed to be a regency romance but the author has taken a ton of creative liberties with it. Having said that, the romance surprised the hell out of me. The chemistry between the MC’s was just perfect .... chef’s kiss 😘. It’s what you would call a ‘clean romance’ but the flirting (which was just this side of believable for 1800’s 😆) was hot.😅 *fans myself*

What a fun read! Once I started, I finished so quickly. Engaging the Earl is the first in the new series The League of Eligible Bachelors series and is a sweet historical romance. This is my first book from Ms. Strunk and I will definitely be checking out her other books! Miss Sarah Brown is the insignificant daughter of an insignificant knight. She is not expecting much for her marriage prospect, but the prospect of a London season raises her hopes. She just needs to draw a gentleman to make her a proper match. Her friend comes up with the solution, Sarah must learn to flirt. Though it seems a ridiculous, it might be a risk worth taking. Reginald Thornbeck, the Earl of Stoke-on-Trent has no plans of marrying. However as his sister’s guardian, he must present her at court and give her a Season. At least her best friend, Sarah, will be there as well to accompany and keep her company. But hearing of his sister’s idiotic plan to help Sarah woo a gentlemen, he has no choice but to intervene. Their time together makes him realize that bachelorhood may not be as desirable as he thought. Now he just needs to convince Sarah that she can set her hopes higher than a vicar or solicitor.
This story was overall light-hearted and engaging. I really enjoyed reading about Sarah and Reginald. Sarah was so sweet. She was sensible, even as she hoped for a match. I appreciated her grace with Mariah and Madeline . I also appreciated her parents. They were adorable and I liked how she had a good relationship with them. Reginald was also such a fun character. I really enjoyed his sections, especially with his friends! He was so kind with Mariah, even when she was being a bit annoying. And he and Sarah were adorable! There were definitely a he-falls-first type of vibe that was so cute. They really seemed to enjoy being with one another.
I enjoyed this book! I liked Sarah and Reginald and am excited to read more in the series. There were a lot of character introductions that I am excited to see expanded! Mariah for example was a bit irritating at points, so I would love to see her POV. This is a sweet historical romance with just some kissing!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

This was a regency era falling for your nextdoor neighbor, sister's best friend trope. There is an author's note at the end that I wish had been at the beginning stating that she deliberately stepped away from the normal regency strictures in favor of a fun story. It was fun. Don't get irked by the absence of regency norms such as chaperones. It just wasn't what I was expecting. The story line was very light, and the characters aren't very complex, so it's an easy read.

The theater scene was very funny. Other elements of this book I struggled with. The Earl, for all his fine protestations, really toys with the FMC at the beginning in ways that are rather unkind. It isn’t his intention, but the impact is cruel. Then, the reason that she won’t marry him though they are in love is so….SILLY. I can understand the concerns of the class differences, but her narrowing in on not knowing rules of precedence is just. Dumb. I also noticed that Book 2 is about the spoiled-rotten mean-girl former best friend turned sister-in-law. Not sure I can do it!

I've fallen a little behind in my reviewing so this should be an exercise in trying to recall what I felt and why.

Strunk is a new to me author so I usually go in with pretty average/low expectations. I say this (and this is probably mean) because this met those average expectations which is why this is 3 stars and not 2.

The premise is Sarah comes to London on her first, and likely only, season, along with her friend Mariah. Sarah's family isn't well off or well connected so while she's hoping for a match she doesn't have very high expectations. Her friend Mariah takes it upon herself to try and shepherd Sarah through the season, and that's how Mariah's brother, Reginald, gets involved.

The long and short is that this wasn't a very engaging read, it felt more effort-ful than effortless for the most part.

Some specifics would be:

This actually felt more like Mariah's book than Sarah's book, which was confounding at best and incredibly frustrating at worst. The first little bit of the book does a great job of laying a solid foundation for what should have been Mariah's growth arc. Which made it more aggravating because we know Sarah is supposed to be the protagonist of this book. Truly, the whole narrative from both Sarah and Reginald's perspectives entirely revolved around Mariah for the first several chapters. Rather than getting to know Sarah and who she was as a character, we instead saw these elements about Mariah through Sarah. This meant that by the time the story really started moving into its premise, I still didn't feel like I knew Sarah, let alone have any investment in her as a character. Which leads me to my next point..

The characterisation in this wasn't super well done. People (including the main characters) either felt like caricatures or like blank slates, which again doesn't make for an engaging read.

I also felt woefully disappointed in the progression of the romance. I expected a little more of a foundation built on friendship, but we went from not being sure about how either Sarah or Reginald felt about each other, to a lot of very intense flirting. All at once - out of the blue. The lack of progression made their romance impossible for me to feel invested in.

I think with further thought I've talked my way back down to 2 stars - I just really didn't enjoy this one, which is a shame.

✨ Book Review ✨

Book: Engaging The Earl
Author: Mindy Burbidge Strunk
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
Format: ARC
Genre: Regency
Spice: Clean Romance
POV: Dual
Troupe: Friends to lovers

✨ You can find the book on Amazon & Kindle Unlimited ✨

Do you have favorite reads that become your comfort reads? Or do you have a comfort genre? I do! I’m adding this book to that category.

This book did not disappoint. It’s a new favorite and now a comfort read. I am already delighted to reread it again. I don’t know when, but definitely will.

The story started off slow. It was slowly building up to the parts that caused me to not put the book down. I was hooked.

Sarah learned she will have a London season. Her father is newly Knighted. His title was elevated even though income wasn’t. She isn’t like women of the ton. Her circumstances make her feel inadequate. So, her best friend Mariah comes up with a plan. A flirting plan, but it turns differently when Reginald decides to step in and help. That’s when this story gets even better. 😏

The flirting lessons were so fun to read. I like how you get to see him slowly become aware of his love for Sarah. He kept trying to flirt with her and he realized he liked doing it. It wasn’t a game for him.

My heart did break for her when she kept minimizing her value. I did like that she didn’t have to find herself in a man, but chose to understand the role she wanted to be apart of.

Reginald wanting to be patient and wait was a chefs kiss 👌💕

I definitely didn’t like Ragsdale, BUT hoping the author redeems him soon. Would love to see him put in his place, but also have a HEA. 😆

Mariah, she is Sarah’s best friend. 😩 she was so self centered, but I know there is a reason.
She isn’t bad, but she is clueless to her friends feelings or concerns. I won’t say she is a terrible friend, but just too much at times. Overall, I did like her as a character. I like when authors make character’s believable. It’s a well written character.

The ending left me on edge. A sort of cliffhanger for the next book. I’m already anticipating it and I know it will be good!

I’m so thankful that I was able to be apart of the ARC team. I was blessed with a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Book Review “Engaging the Earl” by Mindy Burbridge Strunk

Reginald Thornbeck, the Earl of Stoke-on-Trent was looking forward to spending time with friends as he presented his sister Mariah to the London Season. He did not plan on getting married for a very long time but wished to be in the cardroom more than the ballroom. His plans changed when he saw how poplar Mariah was compared to her close friend Sarah. Regi knew Miss Sarah Brown to be clever, nice, and sensible and wanted her to receive the same attention as Mariah. He planned to be more attentive to both but knew he needed help from his friends to keep the unsavory men away. He watched as Mariah started teaching Sarah how to flirt to attract attention of gentlemen, when that did not seem to help Regi decided to help with lessons of his own.
Sarah Brown was not a beauty or had a big dowry like her friend Mariah but did want to have a marriage like her parents. Mariah’s education of being a daughter of an Earl and knowing society better should help her chances of finding true love during the London season. She did not know very many people and did not receive many invitations, so depended on Regi and Mariah to do the introductions. Sarah agreed to these flirting lessons and felt they could only help her. But when Regi started his own lessons on flirting the results were not what she expected.
The standouts of this cute book are the flirting lessons Sarah received from Regi, especially at the theater, the sweet friendship shared between Sarah and Mariah, and delightful charade that Regi wrote for Sarah. This book was a wonderful introduction to the League of Eligible Bachelor’s series. I loved the comradery and brotherhood they shared, they are a hoot!

Why so much smirking?

I usually really enjoy this author. But goodness, does every single character need to “smirk” so often in this book? Why can’t they just smile? Smirking is not considered a fun cutesy kind of smiling. Please, author, get a dictionary, discover what smirking is really about and then realize you need to stop WAY overusing the dang word. Second gripe - in that era, women didn’t get to just go hop in a carriage and go off on their own. They didn’t show up at single men’s homes, especially if said man’s sister wasn’t there. And why would that sister hang out at the friend’s house by herself when the friend leaves? It makes no sense. Please observe the proprieties of the era you are wrong for. Third, along that same line, in that era men would have approached the father to court their daughter and propose. So if the Earl had gone to the father, the heroine would have had parental guidance, and would have been given the advise that she was making a mountain out of a molehill much earlier in the book. Granted, that would have ended the book earlier, but the angst seemed way too contrived, so that may have been for the best. Like I said, I usually like this author better than this. Unfortunately, I didn’t find any of the characters all that likeable. They were all a little too wishy-washy for my tastes. And the H’s sister a plain brat. I did finish the book, so it did interest me enough for that. Take that for what it’s worth. It is also a sweet and clean romance, which is always a huge plus in my book. Unfortunately, this book missed the mark for me and I cannot rate it higher than a 3.

With her father's recent knighthood, Sarah Brown is spending her first Season in London alongside her friend, Mariah. They both intend to make a match this Season, but Sarah quickly learns her upbringing limits the number of eligible gentleman willing to look in her direction. She'll have to settle for a country gentleman, if only she could put Mariah's brother, Lord Stokes, from her mind.

Reginald Thornbeck is not in want of a wife. He prefers to spend his time at the club with his friends, but when he overhears his sister instructing Miss Brown in the art flirtation, he must step in before Mariah's ridiculous advice leads the woman completely astray.

But instruction has a way of turning into something real, and soon Regi finds himself considering not only marriage, but also making Sarah his wife. He need only convince her that she belongs in his circle and in his arms.

This was such a sweet story. I really loved Sarah and Regi. Their relationship starts as simply friends with Regi looking out for her as he would his sister. A bit of flirting is all it takes for him to really notice her. Their interactions were adorable. The theater scene--OH MY GOSH. SO CUTE. I was grinning the whole time. I absolutely loved it. I may have to test the herd of hippopotami out on the husband, because what else am I to do with such inspiration? XD Easily my favorite book of Mindy's that I've read, and I'm looking forward to reading how the rest of those eligible bachelors get leg-shackled XD

With her father’s recent knighthood, Sarah Brown is spending her first season in London. Alongside her best friend Mariah, they are determined to make a good match this season. However, Sarah’s popularity is not as high as Mariah’s. Mariah, being the sister of an earl, has a higher chance of finding a good match.

Reginald Thornbeck is not in want of a wife. Determined to remain a bachelor for a long time, but when he overhears his sister instructing Miss Brown in the arts of flirtation, decides to intervene. But instructions in flirting turn into something real. Reginald not only finds himself giving up bachelorhood but trying to convince Sarah to marry him.

I loved this book! It was a very sweet story and just what I needed to read right now. Regi and Sarah’s story begins as a simple friendship, with Regi protecting Sarah as he would his sister. Their flirting instructions really showed their chemistry and how well they fit together. Sarah’s favorite hobby of solving puzzles was an integral part of the plot and I loved how it was incorporated in the end. I have to say, I did not like Mariah one bit. I know there were many things beneath the surface that we really didn’t get to explore, but it was still hard to like her. Still, I would love to see her own love story develop and redeem herself.

This was a very fun read and so cute!! I’m looking forward to seeing the stories of the rest of the bachelors. If you’re looking for a light, romantic and sweet read, I definitely recommend this book!

Precedence, Charades, Puzzles, and a Unique Public Proposal

Although I have been a dedicated fan of Regency romances since the pandemic, I was surprised to gain some new information on that period. “Fish” used in playing cards initiates tender, private conversation. “Precedence” is revealed to be a necessary factor in hosting dinner parties. Sarah was a neighbor and childhood friend of Mariah and her brother. However when Reginald goes off to school, the relationship is interrupted. He returns as a powerful Duke much higher in status than her father, who is a Knight. Since Mariah is her best friend, she helps Sarah as they spend their first season in London. As Reginald attempts to protect his sister, he discovers Sarah’s intelligence and many appealing qualities. This leads to his attempts to “tutor” her behavior for the Season. Sincere conversations and humorous situations reveal Sarah to be the only woman he has ever found to tempt him to give up bachelorhood. Then he must convince her their love can overcome restrictions of status, culminating with a unique public proposal that touched my heart! At the end, there are enticing teasers about Mariah’s future. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Spoiler Alert*

This is my first book by Mindy Burbidge Strunk and I'm just going to jump right to it. I didn't like the ending. I feel that throughout the book we witnessed so much chemistry between the main characters and the building of their relationship, but as soon as the couple agreed to marriage we were excluded from celebrating with them. Also, I recognize that the way the last chapter was written was intended to be a teaser for the next book, but with all the hype about how much Mariah was "in love" with Heatherton..when he finally does return from the continent there is no interaction between the two to escalate the suspense of weather or not Mariah's "scandalous" actions with Muckrake would have any repercussion on her relationship with Heatherton. I see it as a missed opportunity.

All that being said, I do look forward to reading the next book and hope there will be more in the series, because who doesn't love a to watch band of bachelors fall helplessly in love against all protests!

And can I just say how much I enjoyed the storyline. It was a nice and easy read with well written chemistry between the main characters. When I can feel a "swarm of butterflies" when reading, I know it was done well.

I will admit that the second half of Engaging the Earl is much better than the first. Sarah, the heroine, finally starts to play back to Reginald’s (the hero) attempts at teaching her how to flirt is where the fun begins. The first half is plodding through Sarah’s mistreatment by her friend Mariah, Reginald’s younger sister. Mariah’s condescension towards Sarah made me wonder why on earth are they friends? and why does Sarah put up with it?

I do not want to give any spoilers, so all I will say that if you pick up this book and in the first half you’re debating about giving up (like I did), just keep reading because it does get better. The last half is where the fun begins. I’m so glad I finished it. The HEA was satisfying and then in my version of the Kindle e-book there was a “Keep Reading” section after the ending which was about Mariah and IMO was worth reading.

I do recommend this if you like sweet and clean Regency Romances. However, I’m only going to give it 3***½* for the slow start.

Overall, I loved this story! It is a good, unconventional Regency book. It had me laughing in stitches and then bringing me to tears over their struggles. I love that they come to accept that they love each other in the middle instead of the end, it makes the ending not rushed (as is typical of a lot of books these days). I also liked that there were legitimate concerns brought up and that they also had to discover that with love and by working together, they could get through anything. That it wasn’t as easy as all of that. I also loved the unconventional courting of the couple, and the lessons were so funny! Especially the hippo comments.
I find myself intrigued by the gentlemen in this book, particularly Ponsey.
I do admit that the scene including Mariah and Muckrake in the epilogue felt out of place in Sarah’s story, especially because we don’t see anything between Mariah and Muckrake except for at the beginning, where it looks as though she is hesitant to further the relationship. I also thought it detracted from Sarah’s story like Mariah is trying to take away from her in some aspect.

A little tutoring in flirting goes a long way. I really loved this story. I think it may be my favourite I’ve read from this author. I’m looking forward to more in this series and seeing more of all the supporting characters from this story. There is great promise for future stories about this group of friends who are determined to stay bachelors. There are some fantastic scenes with romantic tension and intensity. (The theatre scene is killer, in the best way.) The author takes some liberties with the socially acceptable behaviours and propriety from the era, but she makes note of it being a deliberate choice in the author notes, which is something I appreciate from an author. Some of the best parts of the story would not have been the same is the author hadn’t bent the social practices. There were a couple other details I question, but even if they aren’t accurate, they don’t really affect the story or the enjoyment. I highly recommend this book!

Engaging the Earl is such a fun read. I loved Sarah and Reginald's story! This is my first time reading one of @mindywritesluvstories books and will not be the last, as I look forward to reading more from this series, and am quickly adding more of her stories to my queue. You can count on this regency romance being clean, fun, interesting and bringing a smile to your face. I love how Sarah is serious, smart and kind. I love how Reginald is thoughtful and careful and wants what's best for Sarah before he even realizes there might be more to his friendship with his sister's friend. Both are sincere in the way they think about each other and others. They both make the flirting scenes so much fun. I could have handled more pages of flirtations between the two of them. This was a light read and is definitely worth your time. Happy reading, friends.

Sarah, “the insignificant daughter of an insignificant knight”, is excited to be going to London for a Season. Thankfully, her best friend, Mariah, will be there to help her navigate all the events and teach her how to win a gentleman’s favor. Unfortunately, Mariah’s advice is proving less-than-helpful, and Sarah is getting worried.

Reginald Thornbeck, the Earl of Stoke-on-Trent, has no plans to marry, but is attending the London Season as guardian to his sister, Mariah. Her efforts to help their childhood friend make a match are unfruitful and a bit ridiculous, so he steps in to help. Sparks fly when Regi offers to teach Sarah the art of flirting.

Regi and Sarah make a good couple. I liked that Regi was willing to help Sarah, and that he saw her worth even if society didn’t. Sarah was sweet, but I would have liked for her to stick up for herself a little more. It’s hard to see why she and Mariah are best friends. This book is the first in The League of Eligible Bachelors series, and I’m interested to see which bachelor will lose his heart next.

Thank you to the author for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

So entertaining!

What a delightful book! This was so much fun to read. It was completely clean, G rating good for all audiences. It had spice without the heat. Who knew reading about whispering complete & utter nonsense in a theater would give me goosebumps! This had banter and fun.
.
I loved all of Lord Stoke’s friends. They each were so different but with a strong friendship connecting them. Mariah, the little sister was spoiled for sure but I can’t wait to read what comes next after that teaser in the epilogue. I look forward to reading more in this series and more by this author.
.
Rating: G, clean, good for all audiences. FMC struggles with finding her place among the upper class society as the daughter of a new Knight, feelings of inadequacy.

Such a cute story

Honestly this story was soo cute!!! At first I wasn't that into it, but when it picks up, OH IT PICKS UP. I had never read anything from this author, but I'm hoping to read her other works from now on.

I'm not sure how to explain it, other than to say it was one of the most butterflies-in-your-stomach inducing books I've read!!

If you love sweet, romantic, clean Regency books, this is for you.

And I'm dying to read the rest of the series as it comes out. I'll be there for each book. Thanks so much to the author for writing something which gave me hours of wonderful entertainment. I only wish I could erase the book from my brain so I could read it for the first time again ❤️

Not the quality I'm used to from this author. I'm tempted to give it a 2 rating. The story was painfully slow until a third of the way through (maybe boring even). I knew the love interest had to be between Regi and Sarah, but it was so slow and hesitant in developing that the reader was unsure. Didn't like Mariah's character at all. She seemed so much younger and less mature than Sarah. They were the same age, right? I can't see any of Regi's friends falling in love with her going forward. She seems like such a child. Quite a few social conventions weren't heeded, but there was a disclaimer at the end.
I did like Regi and Sarah's friendship/relationship when it finally got going. I like the banter between the bachelor group. I'll read the next one and hope for more.

Oh how I love this authors books. Spunky, fun and charming characters, make this story a winner, in my opinion. With a group of eligible bachelors that have no intention of marrying anytime soon, the London season can be brutal. Reginald is guardian of his sister, Mariah, and must accompany her in her first season. She insists her best friend, Sarah, be able to attend with her, Reginald has no idea what he is getting himself into. The witty banter and flirting lessons are perfection. The story engaging and entertaining. This is the first book in the series, The League of Eligible Bachelors. I am so excited to read all of them.

It was cute but it didn’t fee fleshed out enough. We barely get any backstory to all these gentleman bachelors and their little club but they’re thrown at us left and right and we’re just supposed to roll with it no questions asked. And it doesn’t seem like their club has enough sway, Reginald doesn’t given leaving bachelorhood a second thought. And for having this supposed early childhood connection as neighbors and through the friendship with Mariah, we hardly hear how that history plays a part in their current story. Basically, not enough backstory to help give the current story the depth and level of interest it could have.

I liked this one a lot!! But…

There was SO MUCH going on!! My brain couldn’t keep it all straight😅🤯 All the friends and people and parties and rules and money and cards and dancing and flirting and I don’t know it just felt overwhelming at times!!

It also gave off major Pride and Prejudice, but in a copycat way, not a nice homage to the beautiful book😔 Reginald makes 10,000 a year, Sarah is not from the proper family to marry someone of high status, and a quote about “mind, body, and soul” all were just too similar in an odd way🥴

Other than that, the story was actually super good!! It dragged a bit, but for some reason, I really enjoyed it☺️ I think the businesses of it kept my brain engaged the whole time!

This sweet, clean, regency romance was a fun read. I enjoyed spending my afternoon with Sarah & Reginald. The reader gets to see social class lines being crossed, romance bloom, marred friendship rebuilt, supportive friends, and some fun charades to figure out. I think this whole series will be fun as we watch confirmed bachelors change their thinking. I look forward to the next one.
