After her fifteen-year-old brother is killed in a drunk-driving accident, Tessa's life is dramatically altered, as her mother runs away and leaves her alone with her mourning father to deal with their shattered family. Reprint.
i read this book before i had dealt with any real grief like this in my own personal life and then read it again afterwards. and my god does it handle this topic so well. it shows trying to get back to a normal life after the loss of a close family member. wallace-brodeur wrote this beautifully.
This heartbreaking story tore at my soul and brought me right into the midst of the family's suffering. It is an expertly rendered narrative of the despair that this family faces when the life of their pride and joy, blue-eyed Scott, is snuffed out, all while they are confronting various issues that have hung around their lives for years. It is a unique and indelibly memorable sojourn, and I really hope to see more from Ruth Wallace-Brodeur in the future.
It was a good book for what it was. I'm sure i would've enjoyed it more if i read it when i was younger, the age group it is directed at, but it was a sweet, nice, easy read just the same.
