This is a very good collection of thoughts on shotokan and the sort of hybrid system it actually is. We shotokanists like to believe that our art is ancient and timeless, when it in actuality is a lot younger than for instance Ice Hockey or curling. My grandfather is almost as old as shotokan. My father is older than mawashi geri... Like it or not, shotokan is a new karate quite deliberately created and changed to make karate survive in a world no longer interested in the old arts.

This book looks at some of the idiosyncrasies that arises when an old thing changes into a new world , and is exposed to new expectations.

Very interesting and useful to read for us that have noticed that things don't always add up in shotokan.
