Surprisingly good - not routine and predictable. Holds the reader's attention all the way through.

This is a sweet story about friendship and exploring the world around you. It's a great book for beginning readers and parents reading with them.

The narrative is short, with simple dialogue and a large font. And the illustrations by Bruce Degen, known for his work with The Magic School Bus series, are naturalistic. The animals are very expressive, almost anthropomorphic.

This book was a very quick and easy read, would be great for younger students/students at a lower reading level. This story had great lessons throughout it about facing fears and making new friendships! I would definitely have this book in my classroom.

This is "An I Can Read Book" it reminded me (the level of words very similar to the Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik books) smaller to medium words to repeatative phrases from page to page.

This book was enjoyed by myself and my special needs adult son. It is about a chick and a duck. Both worried that because new baby chicks are being born they will loose something. Chick is cold and mama doesn't have room in her nest for her because of the eggs. So she's afraid Mama won't have time or love her anymore. Duckling is afraid Chick won't be friends anymore after her six baby siblings come because she will be busy having fun with them. They wander around together learning about things that 'sound' scary but aren't really what they think and the same about their friendship and loving one anther in the end. Very nice book.

This book is about a little chick and her friend duckling. Momma Chick was sitting on her eggs and little chick was cold but there was not any room for her under momma chick so she ran to see her friend duckling. They both had a story on scary things in there town and they both went to see if the actually thing was scary. A horse told them winter was coming so they ran to Momma Chick to stay warm but there was a scary sound but it was just the eggs getting ready to hatch. Finally the baby chicks came out of the eggs and little chick had some brothers and sisters to play with so duckling got sad and walked away. Chick ran after duckling and they both agreed they will always be best friends.

What a sweet and special book. I would recommend this book to a first grader. The pictures are very colorful but yet dim to show the movement from fall into winter. The words are easy to follow and the sentences are short enough to keep the child's attention. This book helps children to see the value of friendships and to treasure them.

"Little Chick's Friend Duckling" by Mary DeBall Kwitz is An I Can Read Book, Level 1 book. The story is about friendship and the things best friends do together. The main characters are Little Chick and Duckling. Little Chick is worried that Duckling will not play with him when Broody Hen's six eggs hatch. However, Little Chick's worry is for naught because Duckling shows that he is a true friend.

Little Chick can’t fit under Broody Hen’s wings because six eggs are incubating there. She runs out to play with Duckling who takes her to see the scary things he is afraid of. Cute story and very nice illustrations.
