Mary The Chosen Woman: The Mother of Jesus in the Quran: An Interlinear Commentary on Sûrat Maryam

Rate this book
Presentation of the nineteenth Surah of the Qur'an which provides an in-depth treatment of Jesus and his mother Mary. Includes a preface, introduction, and an overview of the context and themes in the Surah. The heart of the book is the "interlinear" commentary, which presents the relevant portion of the Arabic text, followed by the explanatory commentary with an integrated translation of the Arabic in colored italics "...so that one can read it continuously to the exclusion of [or within] the surrounding text... The black roman-face text represents explanations that provide conceptual background and vital context based on authoritative commentaries and sound scholarship." The translation is then also presented again separately in the section entitled Interpretation. A bibliography and index are included, as well as an appendix by Linda Thayer providing "a concise analysis of the biblical account of the genealogy of Mary, in comparison with the Quranic narration."
