Mass Media, Politics and Democracy

Rate this book
This widely used and popular text provides a broad-ranging analysis of the relationship between the media and politics, covering the representation of politics in the media, the political impact of the media, the regulation of the media and the current and potential place of mass media in democratic societies. Systematically revised and updated throughout, the new second edition is even more international in scope and includes substantial coverage of the mediatization of politics; of E-politics and governance; of current debates on media effects and framing; of the impact of reality TV and of issues raised by the reporting of war in Iraq.

A marvellous go-to to the begginer researcher on Political Communication. Covers topics from media role in democracy to campaigns, infotainment or media policy. Gave me some great insights on the celebrization of politics and the different schools of media study. Sometimes repetitive, the information is actually dense but well organized and various mindsets are put on discussion.

A fascinating text that looks at various studies into the impact of media on democracy and government policy. Extremely useful as an introduction into these theories but not fully in depth on individual study details. Nonetheless useful as an introduction.
