If you were told to jump off of a bridge would you?
Perhaps it would depend on who was doing the asking. Our heroine has spunk and a sense of humor, however suffers from an extreme case of inappropriate clothing. When things take a turn from dangerous to worse what will she do when fantasy becomes reality? May include hot leather clad men, singing and demons.
Jen Wylie was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. In a cosmic twist of fate she dislikes the snow and cold.

What worked for me: *Spunky MC, but spunky in an I'm-a-New-Yorker way, not in the I'm-a-fiercely-sassy-one-dimensional-fluff-character way *I rather like that the MC remains unnamed. It makes it possible to place yourself into her shoes (whether or not you might actually go around in such awesome footwear) *The tension keeps you on the edge of your seat from the opening line until the very end. *Yes it was short, but a LOT happened so you felt the same urgency of the MC and no part of it caused the story to drag or felt like mere set dressing.
What didn't work for me: *Reeeeeally short. I mean, der, I knew it was a short story going in, and frankly it was a case of mea culpa in that I've been reading novellas more than short stories lately and so it took me a bit by surprise to have such a low word count. See point three above for the "on the other hand" to this
*This goes back to Point 1, but it felt more like a prologue to me than a short story. This wouldn't be a negative point except for the fact that a)I had to buy it (since you don't typically purchase prologues) and b)there's no continuation of the story as of yet.
Now, why the rating wavering? Simple. While it's true that it was über-short, and I'm more than a wee bit disgruntled that there's no sequel/continuation available or seemingly planned (hence the possibility for a lower rating), it was also very well-written, attention-grabbing, and just flat-out enjoyable to read.
Final verdict? 4 Stars (and I'll probably change it to 5 in the future if there's ever a longer sequel announced lol)
**UPDATE January 5, 2011** See? I wasn't lying lol I was just told by the author that there is indeed a sequel forthcoming, and as such, I have changed my rating to a 5 ;)
I have requested this copy from the author, Jen Wylie for a review. All I can say is thank you very much for approving.
This review is only short, so as the book implies. I have seen a few great reviews about this and wondered I should try this one out. Well, this one didn’t get me down. Let’s us see what I think about this one.
Short Plot. The setting occurred in only one place. On a bridge. It really makes me intrigued on everything on this one. Everything holds up a mystery, not same as the other short stories around. It was really cool!
Other than that, it makes me laugh. Seriously, by this short story, it definitely hits me with this one! Kum Bah Yah! lol! There was a part of intensity but at same time, it does make you smile or giggle. Thanks to our brave dear female character. :]
Characters. Our awesome protagonist is a bar-girl-with-no-name, which tells the story in her point of view. When every time she is mentioning serious, instead, she is making it really funny. I loved her with that attitude. Aside from her, there was this hot-guy, who appears to be the male protagonist.
I can’t say much because this one is giving me some bunch of mysterious auras. There are no name’s involved, and it really helps you wonder what on earth is going on. I am so intrigued on what happened next with an ending part that really got me stirred up on much more stimulating to know what it is.
Definitely going to wait for the next part of this story and hoped that this short story can be a novel. It’s just a suggestion, though. An awesome Short Story from Jen Wylie! *applause*
It is a short story with a sassy, funny and kick-ass protagonist. The story starts in a really exciting way, full of danger and intrigue. It catches the reader´s attention from the very first sentence: “Jump."My mother's voice popped into my head; "Would you jump off a bridge if so-and-so asked you too?” till the end because the story has a circular structure that fits perfectly, it gives the feeling of perfection. Every single word and action falls in its place creating a feeling of continuity. Though it is a fast reading, the author has created an story so full of action and intrigue that I would love to read more about these characters because even though the end is perfectly wrapped up I still have the feeling that you get one an author releases a sneak peek of the first character of the book. And that´s what I love about Jen, in a short story and even in just a sentence, she is able to transport the reader to a fantasy world where everything is possible.
While reading “Jump” I was so hooked in the story that when I finished it I kept trying to go to the next page because I needed more! It ended in the most interesting part! You can give me a bunch of hot guys and leader and then take them as fast as they came, I wanted more!
“I guess I have a thing for guys in leather, who knew?” -Jump
So it is a fun and fast pace read full of fantasy and men in leather...then why are you still there staring at the screen? Go and read it, you won´t regret it!
Take heed of that warning above! This is a fast and hot short by an awesome writer who knows how to keep us enthralled. From the very first sentence I was holding my breath, trying to figure out how this girl got herself in this particular situation. This is a review, so I won’t give away any details, but I think my favorite part (other than the hot guys) was how Ms. Wylie brought the whole scene together; wrapping up the end to match the beginning, bringing the story full circle with non-stop action. I felt close to the MC. If I were in her position I wouldn’t handle it as well as she did though, but I loved how she not only handled it, but did so with humor, keeping me entertained. This is a wonderful short story by a promising writer. Jennifer has a book coming out soon, Sweet Light, you can see my interview with here, so you should ‘jump’ on the opportunity to read her first published piece! Jump also reached #3 on the publishers best sellers list within the first week! I give Jump 5 flames!

I don't know what it is to love the way they love-they would jump off a bridge for me. I can't do that. I can only say, I owe you. ~Bobby Darin
This story maybe short but it does not lack a great plot line. It starts with a woman being told to jump off a bridge by a knife wielding mad man. That is all I can say about the book so not spoil it for any potential reader. It has interesting probably hidden means, which are there for the reader to find and examine. Its a very quick read, but well worth the price, even if the story is one in a million.
This the first work I have read by Jen Wylie, and it does make me curious to read more of them. I found her style of writing refreshing, crisp and savory; like a awesome red wine.
This little and I mean teeny , short , 15 minute read was AWESOME!! Why is it so short? I wanted more!! But , it worked. I paid .99c for a 15 minute read . What do you get for .99c these days, hmmmm, can't think, but you can buy JUMP.
The leading gal has no name or visual description, other than clothing and well her legs and chest (it wasn't necessary, it was only a short read) , the villian is referred to as 'Slimeball', the story is short and tense but manages to capture demons, hotties, knife, bridge, sassy girl, blood and a musical ( well sort of) all within 15 minutes of reading.
I loved it!! I wanted more. It had a start and a finish. The title and the story worked together in unison.
There is a sequel coming, I'm hoping it's longer ..lol!!

Jump by Jen Wylie is a witty, even slightly satirical, paranormal short story, with a charming spunky heroine. It starts with our heroine in peril after being kidnapped and having her life threatened. And things go from bad to strange when nefarious supernatural forces and other more beneficial (and fetching) assistance enters the picture.
Jump was a delight to read; my only complaint is that it ended too soon. It has a clear concise voice and a charming sense of humour, with decent tension and suspense, plus a slender hint of romance at the conclusion. It is a lovely taste of what this author has to offer readers.
Moreover you just have to like a story that clearly demonstrates the fallacy of wearing high heels to escape pursuing villains.
I received this e-book from the author for review. This did not in any way affect my review.
This is a short 15 minute read. Let me tell you though it's quite worth that 15 minutes. I loved it! It takes place in one location with this spunky, take charge kind of attitude woman and some kind of demon/supernatural thing. It's a short story so I don't want to say anything about what happens, except there are hot guys in it. It's a really good short story!
Jump was a quick fast paced read. Like all short stories it doesn’t really give you time to connect with the characters so you are riding through the action.
We open on a young woman being forced at knife point to jump off a pit into swirling darkness. Obviously she doesn’t want to do it but as she can feel the blood running down her back - she doesn’t feel that she has much of a choice.
Our heroine reads a lot of fantasy novels that place their women in exactly these kinds of situations. As she compares the similarities she comes to terms with the fact that this is reality and her muscled hero isn’t coming to save her...until more than one shows up.
Jump had all the right elements, but it lacked staying power. The ending was a little too convenient for me and the action or suspense that it could have produced just wasn’t there. It was like reading through a haze and not really being able to see the picture trying to be painted.
Jump had a really good premise and our heroine had some extremely witty comebacks towards the end but it left me wanting a little bit extra.
Most of the books I've read in the past few years can usually be described using various four letter words. Yup, you guessed them. Jump by Jennifer Wylie can be reviewed with one three letter word. WOW. Yup, I loved the story, and not only are you drawn in by the descriptive characters, you immediately fall in love with the unnamed main character. She's sassy, spunky, and still maintains a level of believability that not only has you sitting on the edge of your seat for the duration, but also makes you give a little cheer at the end. I personally can't wait for the sequel.
So if you ever find yourself standing on a bridge with a knife held to your back...
I love how this short opens and closes on the same note. I remember my mother always using the same line, "Would you jump off a bridge..."
This is a fun tale, referencing all the cliches that are typical in your standard horror or fantasy story. It gave me a chuckle, as I made my way through it.
Simply put, reading this short story made for a great way to pass my time and I'm glad that I did.
This is one of the best short stories I've read in a long time. It has drama, it has intrigue, it is absolutely hilarious. Jen Wylie has a great voice and a sense of humor she's not afraid to use.
You won't want to miss this one. I mean it. If you do you have no one to blame but yourself because I told you.
I just finished Jump and I'm wishing that I'd taken the time to read it sooner. It's a short read, but it's a very good one. I'm already wondering about the real nature of certain characters and feel like I've only wet my whistle with this quick short. At the same time... it ties up rather nicely and the title is perfect.
