Oddly enough, the author that I bought this book for was the one who's story I liked the least. Naughty but Nice by Donna Kauffman was flat and not particularly emotionally compelling. I liked All I Want for Christmas the best. Both main characters were believable and likeable. Tattoos and Mistletoe was ok, but tended be a little overwrought in places.

Naughty But Nice by Donna Kauffman
Series: Hamilton (Book 3)

Businessman Griffin's never believed in luck...until sassy-sweet small-town baker Melody turns his world around. Except there's a catch: There's no way he'll be able to build his empire and hold on to her. His new "lucky charm" could destroy all his dreams...or make this Christmas better than he ever imagined possible...

Good story about a man who is all business until he meets a woman who teaches him how to enjoy life a little. Griffin is an Irishman who has come to the US to build a resort that is set to change the character of the small town where it will be located. Not everyone is pleased with his plans, especially bakery owner Melody.

There's more to Griffin than first apparent. He has concentrated on business and shut off his emotions because of the things he went through growing up. He never felt like he fit in and was bullied and abused by various family members. It was recently revealed that his father was adopted and Griffin has come to Hamilton to get to know his "real" family and learn about his inheritance.

Melody grew up in Hamilton, then left to become a lawyer in Washington DC. She came home to support her best friend who was dying of cancer, found she liked being a baker, and took over the bakery when her friend died. She has done her research on what happens to towns after Griffin's company "helps" them, and she doesn't like what she sees.

Griffin and Melody strike sparks off each other from the beginning. There is a definite attraction between them. I loved their first meeting, as Griffin was in search of coffee. She made her displeasure with him and his plans quite obvious there and again at the town council meeting. I liked the way that Griffin went to her shop that evening to talk to her about it and ended up staying to help. Griffin was amazed by the desire he felt to tell her things about his past, things he doesn't share with anyone. Within a short time the two of them find themselves giving in to their attraction. It was interesting to see the two of them get closer, obviously falling for each other, while agreeing to disagree on the plans for the town. Melody believes that their relationship will last only until Griffin moves on to his next project and wonders how she'll handle it when he's gone. Meanwhile, Griffin comes to realize that what he feels for Melody is much deeper than he had ever expected. I loved seeing his big moment at the end, and how his feelings for Melody had changed his views of his family. While the story never had the big conflict that I expected from the opening scenes, it ended up being a pretty sweet romance.

All I Want for Christmas by Cynthia Eden

Good girl toy inventor Christie takes a walk on the naughty side when she sparks a no-strings fling with Santa -- actually, sexy cop Jonas in a Santa suit. She loves her new "bad girl" persona, except as the holidays approach, she starts falling, and hard, for this known' "love 'em and leave 'em" ladies man...

Very good story. Christie is tired of being the good girl and waiting for things to happen for her. When the office party Santa asks her what she wants for Christmas, she tells him. Santa is being played by her brother's best friend, Jonas, a local homicide detective who is stunned by Christie's wish.

I loved Christie. She's a highly intelligent woman who hasn't had the best of luck with men. She's always been well behaved, keeping her wilder impulses under control, but she's had enough. After overhearing a couple women talking about her and her recent breakup, she's going after what she wants, and what she wants is Jonas. She's known him for years and has had a mad crush on him the whole time. She knows that he doesn't do commitment, but she'll take what she can get.

Jonas was terrific. He's a great cop with a rough background. What he has seen has kept him from getting involved with anyone. He's wanted Christie ever since he'd known her, but at first she was too young and after that he felt that he wasn't good enough for her. Since she had never shown any interest in him, he kept his desires to himself. But when she makes her move, he isn't about to say no, though he does insist "just sex, no strings".

I loved that first encounter, and how Jonas followed her after she ran in embarrassment. He wasn't going to lose out on getting his fondest wish granted. The kiss and more that they shared was a lot hotter than either expected, and if they hadn't been interrupted... I loved Jonas's protectiveness during that interruption.

When he goes to see her, I loved their surprise that both had been attracted for years. Neither will admit to the other that there's more than lust to what they feel, so they continue with their "for the holidays" plan. I loved seeing them grow closer, with Christie showing him that his past makes no difference to her feelings, and Christie discovering that Jonas knows the real her much better than she ever suspected. It was great to see the effect that Christie had on Jonas's life. I loved seeing Christie get the courage to tell Jonas about how she felt. I hurt for Jonas and his fear of losing her before it sank in what she was really saying. I loved the ending. I really enjoyed the various reactions of family and friends to their relationship.

There's a bit of a mystery going on also, as Christie's office and home are broken into. I liked Jonas's determination to keep her safe. There were a couple possible motives and suspects and it was interesting to see how it worked out. It was a little bit of a surprise.

Tattoos and Mistletoe by Susan Fox

Charlie returns to her hometown to fix up her aunt's B&B, but she doesn't count on LJ handling the renovations. Nerdy LJ pined for her in school, but now he's grown into the town's hottest bachelor. Charlie's been burned before and won't let him get close. But LJ's determined to break down her walls and make her dearest Christmas wish come true.

Very good story. Charlie had grown up in Whistler as the daughter of two alcoholics. Her childhood consisted of trying to stay out of their way when they were drunk, and dealing with their erratic behavior. The people of the town looked down on her because of them, and to protect herself she acted like she didn't care. She went out of her way to be as outrageous as she could. When her parents died in a fire she blamed herself. Her judgmental aunt was the only family she had left, and rather than live with her, Charlie took off on her own.

Ten years later, her aunt has died and left her B&B to Charlie. She is determined to sell it and return to her life in Toronto, where she is a sought after tattoo artist. She arrives in Whistler to discover that the renovations her aunt had begun will take longer than she wanted, and the contractor in charge is an old high school classmate. Back then LJ had been the class nerd with a huge crush on Charlie, but he's grown up to be the hottest bachelor in town. His goal is to show Charlie that she can come home again.

I liked Charlie in spite of her pissy attitude. She had made something of herself after she left Whistler and she has a plan for her future. I enjoyed seeing her surprise when she finally figured out who LJ was. She freely admits her attraction to him and wants to enjoy what they can have together while she is there.

LJ has never forgotten Charlie and is determined to get to know her while she is in town. He really wants her to see that Whistler isn't so bad and does his best to show her how things could be different. I loved the way that he could see past the hard surface she shows to everyone else to the vulnerable woman underneath.

I loved the progress of their relationship as LJ uses their attraction to ease her back into life in Whistler. He gives her good memories to replace the bad ones. Charlie knows she's starting to care for him, but she's afraid to risk her heart. I loved seeing him finally tell her how he feels and force her to see the way she's been running away. Their big moment at the end was sweet and romantic.

I did understand why Charlie felt the way she did after how she had been treated. Her biggest problem was that she couldn't see that things may have changed in the past ten years. I liked seeing that there were some people who could see the new Charlie. I felt really bad for LJ and Emily with the problems they had with their parents. LJ still had some problems with his old insecurities showing up, and they didn't help anything with their attitudes. I loved seeing how Charlie's attitude helped him stand up to them.

These were 3 good stories. I enjoyed the second one the best. My only complaint about any of them was that the genealogy in the first story confused me.

The Naughty List by Donna Kauffman, Cynthia Eden, and Susan Fox
Contemporary Seasonal Anthology- Sept. 28th, 2010
4 ½ stars

The Naughty List includes 1 fun, light-hearted read and 2 surprisingly thoughtful and warm stories just in time for Christmas.

Cynthia Eden writes a lively and sexy story which immediately put me in the Christmas spirit. This story was so enjoyable I couldn't believe how fast I finished it! In this story the 'nerdy' toy inventor named Christie is tired of playing it safe and when she finds that her brother's best friend, a super hunky cop is playing Santa she asks him for a special 'present'. Jonas can believe his ears or his luck! He has always been attracted to Christie he immediately wants to help her have a god time. So much that he forgets to play Santa and frantically runs right after her! This story also had a clever mystery which made it all the more interesting and hilarious! 4 1/2 stars

In Susan Fox's story she brings together 2 people who have grown and changed. One was a geek that became a stud and the other a rebel who now has her own successful business. They met on one fateful night when they were teenagers and neither forgot the other but the bad girl, Charlie left. But now she is back to fix the B&B she inherited from her aunt and leave. Only she finds a very sexy construction worker is the 'nerd' she once knew. He is determined to make the repairs longer just to get to know her again. This was a good story because the author really takes the time to explore each characters’ insecurities and the reader really can see how the 2 of them complement each other and find finally find a sense of ‘home’ in each others arms. If you love romances about 2nd chances you will enjoy this story. 4 1/2

This is the first story by Donna Kauffman I've read. It is a sweet story set in a small town. The author also takes the time to explore each of the characters but it is mainly about the hero. He has had a rough life and his only focus is on business and the bottom line. When he unexpectedly finds and begins to care for the town baker everything he has built his life on changes. Can he let go or will he stay? This was heartwarming story about changing and realizing what is really important in life. 3 1/2 - 4 stars

All these stories will be sure to get you in the Christmas spirit I think I liked Cynthia Eden's the best because it was the most lighthearted. But anyone of these is sure to be satisfying read for someone looking to get into the cheerful holiday mood.

This was pretty awesome, actually. The first and last story had me ooo-ing and aaaa-ing and making other baby sounds at the cuteness of the storyline but it was the second, Cynthia's, that I liked best.
It is, overall, an awesome read even though it made me long for the holidays already. I wish I'd read this closer to Christmas..

Mixed bag Christmas romance
3 stars

This is Brava's annual Christmas story anthology featuring three authors and three different stories all focussing on romance, heat and Christmas time.

NAUGHTY BUT NICE - Donna Kauffman
Irishman, Griff, is in small town Hamilton to head up a corporate town-wide makeover. Baker Melody has given up her high flying career and now simply wants a quiet life so the pair are bound to cause sparks when they meet up.

This must be part of a series by Kauffman and I remember having similar problems with another of her stories in a previous anthology. It was so bogged down in detail about other people and back story that I got very bored very quickly. And Griff's "Irish" accent was cringe-worthy in the extreme. Not good.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS - Cynthia Eden
Christie Tate is fed up with always being the good girl. So at the office Christmas party she decides to ask Santa for what she really wants - a really good time. But that's before she realises that Santa is Jonas, her brother's best friend and the guy she's had a crush on since childhood.

This was a sweet, enjoyable and romantic story that's perfect for this kind of anthology. It's light and frothy with enough heat to keep you warm on a winter night. I liked both Jonas and Christie and it had a sweet happy ending.

TATTOOS AND MISTLETOE - Susan Fox
Charlotte "Charlie" Coltrane is back in Whistler after promising herself she would never return. She's immediately captivated by hot contractor, LJ, and is surprised to discover he's the geeky kid she remembers from high school.

This was a sweet and slow paced story about a couple of misfits that find love. It wasn't earth shattering but I enjoyed it and was happy at the outcome.

This book had, for me, one great story, one good and one bad. It's a good read for a cold winter night or just for taking a break from things but nothing extraordinarily special or romantic. Only the middle story was the light, fluffy romance that I was expecting but the last story was still enjoyable while the first was just bad. Still, worth a look if you like Christmas romance despite the festive content being at a minimum. 3 stars.

Heather's Notes
So I usually really like anthologies, but I had a hard time getting into the first story "Naughty But Nice" - I don't think that title really fits the story. I really didn't connect with the characters, even though I have read some of the connecting stories. It just didn't really do anything for me.

Now the second story, "All I Want for Christmas" I really liked. I thought Christie and Jonas were really good together. I like that Jonas didn't try to hide the break-in from Christie and treated her as an adult. I also liked the end where she admitted she wanted more and he did too.

The third books "Tatoos and Mistletoe" was ok too. I felt like Charlie was being a hard ass and need to let go of some of her anger. I liked that LJ finally stood up for himself and he was a bit of a doormat at the start. I also liked that the author but in some other characters to remind Charlie that not everyone was bad in that town.

4 stars for the Cynthia Eden story "All I Want For Christmas"

A sweet and sexy Christmas novella, this one has a bit of a suspense plot, that worked well with the story.

A hardened homicide cop plays Santa at a toy company as a favor to his friend, never expecting the beautiful woman who sits on his lap to wish for a hot night with him. Jonas is shocked that perfect Christie will ask Santa for a hot night, but Santa always delivers ;)

Christie knew it was Jonas before she sat down. No one else has those eyes. Daring to ask "Santa" for what she really wants is the hardest thing she's ever done, but she won't back down.

Once they set the rules in play, no strings, just fun, just for the holidays, those rules can't be broken...or can they?

Thomas "Griffin" Gallagher arrives in Hamilton on a mission to revamp and revitalize the town and runs into opposition in the form of baker Melody Duncastle. Wow, do these opposites attract! An intense, immediate connection develops even though they disagree about the future of the town.

While The Naughty List was well-written and enjoyable, its novella length makes for a fast-paced story that races to a happy ending. It is part of Donna Kauffman's Hamilton series and, while I had never read it, the story was previously included in an anthology.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I really enjoyed the Naughty List. Melody was a small town baker (but had been a tax lawyer for awhile). She found she loved baking and hated tax law. Griffin came to town to revamp the place that he was inheriting, but she wanted no part of it. As they got to know each other, past histories and secrets came out and she understood him more. They gradually fell in love and he wanted her to go back to Ireland with him. This story moved along swiftly. It was heartbreaking to learn of his childhood, but it helped make him the man he was. I thoroughly loved the book. I got this book from NetGalley for an honest review. This was the only story in the ebook

I especially enjoyed Donna Kauffman’s novella, “Naughty But Nice” because I’m hooked on Hamilton and the continuing drama that surrounds this idyllic town and it’s mysterious benefactor. The latest newcomer is an Irish bloke named Griffin who takes a fancy to bakery owner Melody and her scrumptious confections. A delightful holiday read! I read a complimentary copy of this book provided by Kensington-Zebra through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

These stories cover quite the range; silly and spicy and angsty. Well, I guess they all combine those qualities and one just seems to bubble up to the top more than the others in each one. My favorite of the three was “All I Want for Christmas”. It might have something to do with my soft spot for romantic suspense and a first responder hero. The other two didn’t excite me as much, and Charlie’s stubborn pride made the third a bit of a slog at times. This wasn’t quite the light and fluffy entertainment I had been looking for, but, all the sweet magic of holiday romance made up for it.

I didn't realize when I picked up this book that it was a collection of 3 short holiday romances. They were all like Hallmark Christmas movie romances condensed into 1/3 of the time, with that much less background and character development, with the women jumping into bed with the men within the first pages and ended up falling in love and living happily ever after.

A sexy novella that seemed to wrap up a series that I haven't read the previous books of (not what I expected)
