Mr. Morris's narratives, originally published in 1901, make you feel as if you are listening to a kindly grandfather recounting tales from the past. This delightful book will introduce to your child famous people and events that occurred in the nations around the world. Plus we've added a few chapters of our own, so Volume 1 presents stories from Queen Elizabeth through Garibaldi (1550–1850).
I enjoyed this one, but she comes down pretty biased against some characters in history. Her opinions might be warranted, but I prefer history books to tell the facts and let me decide what to think about them.
This is our second time to read this book together as a part of our homeschool studies. As with the other books in this series, it serves as our family read-aloud as we study the same time period in history and then the kids have their own on-level reading along with it. The stories here keep everyone's attention (grades 1-10), and introduce people and empires in a memorable, enjoyable way.
