This is the second book in the Amber Fox series and was a fun read. What really made this story different was the fact that it is written as Amber is telling the story personally to you. Not to mention she is sarcastic, quirky, funny, sexy all wrapped into one bundle of energy. Amber Fox, ex-cop, now works for her ex-fiance Brad as an insurance investigator. Brad calls her to investigate what starts out as a "something doesn't feel right moment" that he has while watching a pay-per-view boxing match between the current world champ title holder, Levi (who has recently taken out an insurance policy with brad's company), and Levi's old friend Ricky. When someone comes up to the ring yelling at Levi during the sixth round of the match and Levi is knocked out, Amber is thrown into a whirl-wind investigation that ends up being deeper than she ever thought. With the help of Brad and the other members of their investigations team Amber starts finding answers. What started as a world-title boxing scandal, quickly turns into a bank safety box robbery and murder. Who was the mysterious man and what was he yelling to Levi is her first question, but the answers don't come easy as the questions keep piling up As more players come into the mix the pace picks up as the owners of a bank, a bank owners wife, an author, an ex-con, an ex-girlfriend, and an accident four years ago play a role in the who-dunnit. Is Levi being blackmailed? And if so by who and for what reason? As things start coming together, the pace quickens as Amber finds herself in a deadly situation. As if receiving disturbing messages to back off wasn't enough, Amber finds herself smack in the middle of a love triangle between still having feelings for Brad and him wanting her back and her on-a-break boyfriend Romeo, who happens to work as an investigator for the police and is also working on the case. Sibel Hodge has a way of writing that really makes the characters come to life as Amber struggles to get to the bottom of the case and her love life. I recommend to fans of a fast paced, sometimes funny, crime filled chic lit story. I look forward to reading The Fashion Police, the first Amber Fox book, and hope Ms. Hodge keeps this series coming because she has a new fan!

This is an exciting and witty mystery with a tough, determined protagonist. This book had a "chick lit" feel, in a clever rather than zany way. In Amber, we find a skilled investigator who isn't afraid to take on the "big dogs," while exhibiting vulnerability in the moments when she thinks no one is looking. She may be decisive and controlling in the field, but she is constantly second guessing her choices in her personal life. This dichotomy makes her interesting and relatable.

This books looks to be the second in a series, and I suspect that more of the story behind the interesting love triangle between Romeo, Amber, and Brad was explained in the first book. I felt like I didn't know Romeo at all, really, in this book. He was obviously someone important to Amber, but I didn't have a feel for him. The dialogue in general wasn't as tight as I would have liked, and I preferred the narration from Amber's point of view to the dialogue between characters. The plot of this book flowed well and kept my interesting throughout. Although a mystery, it wasn't a hard-core, "keep me guessing" type of mystery. It was more like an adventure, maybe like a "ride along" with "Foxy: Investigator." We traversed twists and turns that felt logical yet exciting. I never had to stop and say "what the heck just happened?"

Former cop and insurance investigator Amber Fox is on the loose again. This time it's a case involving a bank heist, a boxing scandal and murder. Will she crack the case? And will she make up her mind between Romeo and Brad?

I love Amber Fox as a chick lit heroine. She smart, she dresses in pants, she doesn't saunter around in high heels, and she's seemingly fearless in her pursuit of the truth. Her sidekicks are equally amusing - former SAS agent Brad, computer hacker extraordinaire Hacker, and psychic Tia. Minor characters become equally endearing in this engaging mystery. There are lots of twists and turns and danger for Amber.

But the most looming question is whether she should pursue her relationship with former fellow cop Romeo, or reunited with ex-fiance Brad. I was ready for one of them to bite the dust in this book, but am not sure that I like Amber's choice.

The ending leaves us to believe that there will be more adventures for Amber Fox.

It was a enjoyable to have female that was good at her job but have troubles too. Amber fox used to be a cop but now she is an insurance investigtor. Vinnie was his promoter and manager and all around bad guy. Vinnie cousin was bankrobber who Amber arrested 10 years ago and he remembers her. Amber investigates what happened at the match and connects to a bank heist a few weeks ago. Amber boyfriend that they are having a break from is Romeo investigating the bank heist and when amber runs accross dead bodies she deals with him. Romeo wants her to move in with him and gave her an utimation. Brad still wants her back. She has a hard time choosing while she is investigating and finding out lots of pieces to the puzzle. I enjoyed reading the book.

I finally read my first Chick Lit Mystery! Be Careful What You Wish For by Sibel Hodge is witty, fun and full of twist and turns. My hats off to the author for being able to keep the details of all the storylines straight. And, she does a nice job of keeping the reader updated on what’s happening as well, except for the surprises of course. In this story, Amber Scott is trying to solve several mysteries related to a professional boxer including murder! At the same time, she’s trying to figure out her own life, deciding between the two men in her life. The characters are vivid and realistic, and I think you’ll enjoy getting to know all of them.

I loved this. I have never really thought about reading 'chicklit' before but this was ace! I could not put it down.

There was blackmail, murder & fraud all wrapped up under the guise of boxing, although the boxing was secondary to the storyline. The story romped along at a cracking pace and there were some really funny laugh-out-loud moments.

It was a very enjoyable book and not at all 'fluffy' as I was expecting it to be – that will teach me about stereotypes! I will certainly look forward to more from this author.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author.

Sibel Hodge has created the character of Amber Fox. Some people compare Amber to Stephanie Plum, but I find her to be more mature and smarter. Fashion Police introduced Amber and I think the books should be read in order. Amber grows a lot in this book and makes an important decision regarding her love life. Her investigation of a boxer and the events that caused him to throw a fight is the subject of this book. The plotting and writing are tighter than in Fashion Police and make for a very enjoyable read.

Sibel Hodge is a very special writer. Her prose sparkles with wit and verve. Her characterisations are full of life and she tells a story in Be Careful What You Wish For that is lively, engrossing and fun to read. Amber Fox is a great, fully formed character that you can believe in. This is the first Sibel Hodge book I've read and I enjoyed it very much-- and I'm someone who tends to stick to reading favourite female authors such as Janet Evanovich, JD Robb, Marcia Muller and Linda Fairstein. I'll be adding Sibel Hodge to that list from now on.

This was the first Sibel Hodge book I've read and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with her writing style.

'Be careful what you wish for' has all the elements needed to make a good book a success.

The great one-liners from the main character Amber Fox had me laughing out loud.

There is plenty to keep you entertained throughout and a superb mix of humour, romance all wrapped around a great mystery.

I can't wait to get my hands on Sibel's other books.

I enjoyed this book. Amber Fox is certainly someone not to mess with and it is nice to see a female character as the bad ass and still be relateable and funny.

The writing was well done, the story lagged a little for me, I wasn't constantly thinking about it, so it took me a while to finish it. But overall it was a good story, I had no idea where it was going but towards the end I figured out who had done what etc... but still enjoyed it none the less.

This is the second Amber Fox novel. This time she is investigating an boxer and ends up following many leads which finally come together for a ending I wasn't expecting. I like the humour in this book and often found myself chuckling at Amber's comments. I will be eagerly be waiting to read the next book in the Amber Fox series of mysteries.

I really liked this book!!! I loved the relationship between Brad and Amber, and felt a little sorry for Romeo but oh well :) I had somethings figured out by the end but other things kept me guessing. I really hope there is another book and it comes out next month!

Amber is assigned a case to investigate a boxing fight that appears to not have been legit. The person who lost the fight appeared to be distracted, and he was one of Brad's former SAS friends son.

In the story we have investigations of illegal gambling, bank fraud, racketeering, and police personel being on a crime Lord's payroll.

This is another fun story that is very entertaining, with well defined character's and a strong pot that has great descriptions that allow you to think that you're in the story with the characters.

When Sibel Hodge contacted me to review the latest book in this series, Voodoo Deadly, I am so glad that she offered me the first two to review when I hesitated to read the last book before reading the two that came before it. They have been a pure delight to read. I can't remember the last time I laughed all the way through the books.

Amber Fox is one of the best heroines I've had the pleasure to read in a long time. While she is constantly getting herself into trouble, I like how she manages to get herself out of trouble and still solve the case at hand before the police and without much help from her boss, Brad. There is also just enough of a love triangle to keep the romance lover in me interested in it, and it meshes nicely with the mystery storyline occurring at the same time without overpowering it.

In Be Careful What You Wish For the mystery revolves around boxer Levi Carter, the boxing heavy weight champion of the world. When he goes down in a fight, Amber's boss, Brad, gets a call from Levi's dad, who is an old military squad member of his to look into the matter. Amber gets put on the case and finds out that there is a lot going on that doesn't add up. How does the fight that he lost connect to a bank robbery? How do a few murders fit into the bank robbery and the fight? Is it blackmail, money laundering or something worse?

It was fun watching how everything came together, and for the life of me I couldn't figure it out, and the theory I thought was right was wrong. However, I never try to solve the mystery that hard because I always like to be surprised at the end when it's revealed who did what and for what reasons. The love triangle was almost as much fun, if not more fun then the actual mystery. In this book we learn more about Brad who is Ambers ex who she still has unresolved feelings for because of how their relationship ended. In the Fashion Police, it was the opposite-it was more about Romeo and Amber's feelings for him. While there is more romance in this book then the last, this is first and foremost a mystery and about Amber figuring out what she wants in life and the best way to get there.

The secondary characters in this series have me loving them almost as much as I love Amber if not more. Her dad, a retired detective has gone overboard in forming a neighborhood watch program and you never know what crazy thing he'll be wearing or doing next. Her mom is lovable because she is such a normal mom. She is always giving Amber great advice and tells her to follow her heart, because really she already knows what she wants she just has to look for it. There is also Hacker who does amazing things with computers and Tia, who we met in book one. Both are around to help out Amber when she needs it and are hilarious when together. However my favorite secondary character this time around was Marmalade, Amber's cat. He really steals whatever scene he is in. :)

The only minor complaint I have is that there wasn't enough of Romeo in this book. I would have loved to see him more included in the story line-and I hope we see more of him in the next one.

These books have been compared a lot to the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanvoich, and there are a lot of similarities, but I feel like that there are enough differences to make them stand out on their own if that makes sense. This series has just been a nice change from the Urban Fantasies and Paranormal Romances that I usually read.~there is something about British chick lit books that I adore.

Favorite Quotes:

If I got any hotter, I'd explode in a puff of smoke. Brad had dangerous hands, and not just for bad guys. In fact, his hands should be made illegal.

Maybe I should marry Brad. Just for Marmalade's sake, you understand. He purred louder, and I could;ve sworn he nodded at me. May I should let Marmalade decide my love life from now. on. He'd probably do a better job than me. What do you think, boy? Should I marry Brad? Brad glanced at me over his shoulder. "You're going to let a cat decide whether to marry me or not?...I picked up Marmalade "so Meow once for yes, and twice for no." "Meow." The corners of Brad's lips curled into a smile. I take that back. You can let him decide everything from now on."

Be Careful What You Wish For – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat and Think With Your Taste Buds – Desserts

“I arrived at the gym one morning to get some equipment sorted out for the boxers. It was still really early so I assumed no one would be there, but when I went in, I could hear Vinnie and Levi arguing in the locker room. I heard the word ‘contract’ mentioned a few times.” Terry frowned. “I think they were arguing about Levi’s contract with Vinnie.”

“Do you know the terms of the contract Vinnie and Levi agreed on?”

“No. It was signed a long time ago when Levi was twenty, and he would never tell me. Levi was always secretive about what was in it.” Terry took a sip of coffee. “Anyway, after I heard Levi mention the contract, curiosity got the better of me and I listened outside. The thing is…” Terry paused and bit his lip. “The thing is…I’m pretty sure Vinnie told Levi to throw the fight.” Terry gave me a sheepish look.

I let this sink in for a minute. “What do you mean, ‘pretty sure’? What did Vinnie say exactly?”

“Well I heard Vinnie say, ‘You’re still under contract with me – you do what I (*^!#) tell you. You will take the hit.’ Terry gave me a knowing look. “Later on, when Vinnie had left, I tried to ask Levi if Vinnie was ordering him to throw the fight, but Levi dismissed it. Levi told me he was the world champ, why would he need to take a dive?” Terry looked up at me with worried eyes. “I tried again to get out of Levi what was going on, but Levi just said they were arguing about a personal matter. I didn’t really believe him at the time, and now…with what happened last night, I think Levi really did throw the fight.”

Amber Fox, also known as “Foxy” has watched the video of the world heavyweight boxing champion Levi Carter where he lost the match in the 6th. According to her boss and ex-fiancé Brad, owner of Hi-Tec Insurance, Levi did something during the 6th that is unheard of. He allowed himself to be distracted by bank CEO Carl Thomas as he yelled something to him from outside the ring causing a the referee to declare a ‘Technical Knockout.’ So, what is the problem? Why would Levi throw the match and lose his title? That’s what Amber has been given the task of finding out.

One thing that really peeked Amber’s attention was the fact that Vinnie Dawson is Levi’s manager. Amber has a history with Vinnie from back when she was on the police force. She put his cousin Lee away for armed robbery and since Lee and Vinnie are close, she feels Vinnie still holds a grudge against her. And this is all proven to be true when Amber starts receiving some very undesirable packages in the mail as well as a sudden infestation in her apartment of the one creature she fears...spiders.

Making the investigation even harder comes with the murder of a couple of the suspects and then the disappearance of Levi. Amber is sure Vinnie has some kind of hold over Levi and is probably blackmailing him but for what? Hopefully she will find the answers before it gets not only Levi killed but herself too.

I met Amber Fox when I read Sibel Hodge’s book The Fashion Police. Her character is one of my favorite. She is so real and so are her personal life problems. Between trying to decide if she should continue a relationship with her ex-boyfriend Romeo or give in to her ex-fiancé Brad’s proposal, Amber finds herself in total confusion. Plus she must deal with her retired policeman Dad who has taken on the neighborhood watch program and spends a good bit of his time undercover either dressed as a woman or a stinky bum. This book has it all…murder, love and humor.

Be Careful What You Wish For is the second Amber Fox book, after The Fashion Police. I haven't read the first Amber Fox book, nor any of Hodge's other books, but I will definately be reading them now. All the necessary elements for a good suspense novel were in this book: murders, mystery, greed, evil, and no small amount of action and unexpected twists and turns. But if a suspense novel can be lighthearted and funny, this one was, with lots of romance and quirky humor throughout the story. Amber Fox was hilarious with her tough as nails outer persona and her hysterical one-liners that were frequently laugh out loud funny. She was a perfect lead character for the story. Her romantic struggles between two seemingly gorgeous men managed to be both heartwrenching at some points, and hysterical at others. And while the emphasis was definately on the suspenseful and the romantic/funny elements of the story, there were some serious moments that kept Amber's character from being "campy" and I really liked that.

I liked the fact that I was able to envision everything the author described as if I were there, without there being so much detail that I was left feeling bogged down. There was a scene involving spiders (and I will say no more) and the imagery there was enough to make me squirm as I read! I had perfect images of all of the bad guys in the story, except, in my head, they were speaking more like The Godfather rather than Brit bad guys! My Romeo was Jordi Vilasuso (Griffin Castillo in All My Children) and Brad was Channing Tatum as he was in Dear John. I have a vivid imagination! I definately recommend picking this book up!! 4.5 mugs!

I love it when a book has you page turning by page 2 and this Amber Fox mystery certainly did. There is never a dull moment and she is a very aimable character. Her slightly chaotic, even scatty, exterior cloaks a head-screwed-on, worldly and shrewd ex-policewoman. She is, of course, pretty and slim with the enviable dilemma of having to decide between two gorgeous hunks. But then, she IS the heroine, so these qualities are a must !! I was momentarily very slightly crestfallen when it was apparent that the story was centred around boxing - one of my least favourite sports - but, that moment passed very quickly, as Sibel only uses it as a setting for the perpetrators and never goes into detailed technicalities of the sport. The story is fastpaced with just enough characters to make it intriguing but not too many to lose track of who is/does what ! I love Sibel's easy going style and she makes it very easy to identify with Amber's thoughts and ponderings. The fate of each (living!) character is nicely tied up, as is Amber's own - Sibel can be trusted to guide you to a very satisfactory conclusion. The characters' names are a tad corny but that aside, this is a thoroughly enjoyable chicklit - if you have already read Amber Fox, this will not disappoint and if you have not, welcome to her world, you will be wanting to read more.

Be Careful What You Wish For by Sibel Hodge is the second book in the Amber Fox Mystery Series. I have not read the first book, The Fashion Police, but this book stood well on its own.

Amber Fox is an ex-cop, now an insurance investigator with her ex-fiancee Brad for a boss. He has called her in to investigate a boxing match accident. Her current boyfriend, Romeo has asked for a break so she can make sure she wants to be with him, not Brad. The investigation gets complicated immediately with connections to a previous bank heist, a bad guy boxing promoter who Amber has tangled with before, and a few murders to keep things interesting.

Be Careful What You Wish For is a sharp, fast-paced story with intrigue, evil, romance, and humor. Amber Fox is the kind of strong lead female character with a great sarcastic wit that I love to read. She's not perfect, and that's ok with her and me! She reminds me a lot of Stephanie Plum in Janet Evanovich's series - one of my favorites of all time. Amber's investigative trail leads from person to person and you're never sure exactly who all are the bad guys and who is just caught up in the fallout. It's the kind of tale that keeps you turning the pages to find out! I recommend you give it a try.

Sibel Hodge. Amber Fox 2
Be Careful What You Wish For
This is the second in the Amber Fox series, she is an ex cop now working for her ex fiancé Brad in the insurance investigating business.
When a boxing match seems to have been fixed, in comes Amber to find out if it has or not.
If you enjoyed the first book you will love this one . Amber is still trying to decide and work out her feelings for the two men in her life namely Brad her ex fiancé and now her boss, or Romeo who is a detective and she claims to be having a "break" from at the moment.
You will enjoy Amber's antics in trying to solve a crime that involves boxing, dodgy banking and some underworld activities. This is another well written book by Sibel Hodge and it is a terrific addition to the Amber Fox series.

This was a fun book, second in a series. Fun and light yet not light in where the protagonist finds herself.

I might not have picked it up because I usually avoid chicklit books but am happy the author offered me a copy to review.

She is compared to Evanovich but I find her writing much deeper and entertaining. Her characters are fully developed and the action is realistic as she taught me some things that held my interest.

I would like to read the first book of this series because of the main character and believe that the next could be even better than this one as she grows.

Excellent writing and an author that I would highly recommend.

Alright, I must preface this by saying I am not a fan of traditional "chicklit", which is where Sibel places herself as an author. In each of the books I am reading by her, her books come off as sarcastically hilarious with strong female characters who can go toe-toe with any guy and no mama drama! This book is no exception. It didn't have quite the "huh" moment of her book Trafficked: The Diary of a Sex Slave, so four stars, but this book was a blast. I do agree that Sibel is an author not to skip over!

This is the second in the Amber Fox series and after reading the first one and liking it so much I was excited to read the second. Unfortunately, this book didn't live up to what I was expecting. The humor wasn't there and the pace just wasn't fast enough as the last one I read through in basically one sitting. The plotline also just didn't really interest me. Even with a not so great novel in this book I will still stick with Sibel because I know her humor is fantastic when it is there and her other books have proved to be winners with me. This one was just ok. 2 stars.

This is the second in the series of Amber Fox books, and it's another easy read from Sibel (who is fast becoming one of my favourite authors). Amber is an ex cop who now investigates insurance claims with her on/off ex, Brad and in this case all is not what it seems in a possibly rigged boxing match. With likeable characters (and ones you wouldn't get on the wrong side of) as well as two love interests, and a story that moves along quickly what's not to love about this book?

This second book in the Amber Fox series by Sibel Hodge is as good if not better (if that is possible) than the first. It kept me guessing and laughing throughout. Quite often I find the heroine in these types of book really stupid and annoying which detracts from the story, thankfully Amber Fox the heroine in this book doesn't fall into this category. I am impatient for more!

I can't believe how much I'd enjoyed the 2nd story in the Amber Fox series. The easily flow of Sibel's writing made me feel as though Amber was talking to me. The story was fluid and it played out easily in my mind. Of course, the mystery was not as tight as I would have liked and the love triangle thing got on my nerves but by the end, I was satisfied. I can't wait for more...

I enjoy reading Sibel Hodge's books, and this one is no exception. This is book number 2 in a series about Amber Fox, an insurance fraud investigator and her trials and tribulations not only with the job but the men in her life. "Be Careful What You Wish For" is another fun and light-hearted read. A great get-away book.

Another great book! Was glad to see that Amber finally made a decision regarding her love life! The action in this book was more intense than the first, so much so that I couldn't put it down and read it from start to finish in one day, then immediately downloaded the third book in the series!!! I like the author's writing style and look forward to reading her other books as well.

I have come to really enjoy Sibel Hodge's books! There are some nuances that I don't care for, but I find the books very entertaining. I purchased the 3rd Amber Fox book right after I completed this one! I look forward reading more!
