Patricia Nead Elrod is an American fantasy writer specializing in novels about vampires. Her work falls into areas of fantasy and (in some cases) mystery or historical fiction, but normally not horror, since her vampires are the heroes. -Wikipedia
The story is about a young man of the landed gentry and a Tory during the American revolution...
"Thinking me dead, my poor family had buried me, but it was not my lot to remain in the ground, for the legacy hidden in my blood soon expelled my reanimated body from that early and unfair grave. Asleep during the day, abroad during the night and able to command some useful if alarming new talents, I had no name for this change nor did I know whether it was a curse or a miracle, though the latter seemed most likely, once the shock of my resurrection had been overcome."
Infected by his first lover while at University in England he dies in the revolution only to be resurrected much to his shock. The vampire attributes are classic ones and get him out of many close calls with rogues of the period. Not prone to violence the gentleman is devastated when he finally does kill but gradually learns to use his talents in as moral ways as circumstances in an unjust world allow.
If there's such a thing as Vampire Light this would fall into that category. Not erotica like Rice nor as violent as Yarbro but equally skilled in historical depiction and dialect. More like historical romanticism with vampire adventures.
A very cheeky tale of the origins of vampires, including some side charcaters like friends of the author Bram Stokes, and other characters such as Jack the Ripper. Very cleverly written.
I have read this series multiple times and have also purchased the audible version. It is so good and one of my favorite vampire series!
If you enjoy historical fiction you will love this series. The authors attention to historical details is superb and as an Historian, I am elated that she chose to create this storyline across nations in a time of change during the Revolutionary War.
I’m not into romance novels typically, but this one has just enough romance in it to pique the interests of lovers delight.
If you’re a vampire fanatic, you’re going to fall in love with Jonathan, a true gentleman.
This series is truly destined to be loved by fans of numerous types of fictional books, and if you have not read these yet, I highly recommend you do!
A great family story about a very disfunckinal family that during the American revolution about a insane mothet and her husband and daughter and son who is killed and turns into a vampire and has great adventures both on Long Island and in England I loved the Carnal stories and surprises as the vampire get established as a person in London more murders there. !

Jonathan Barrett, Gentleman Vampire would best be described as "Slice of Life", the books follow on a day by day basis around Jonathan and his family and the drama that arises from the goings on within.
This is one of my favorite vampire book series ever! It got me interested in vampire books set during this time in history! I definitely recommend these books!
This is a four book in one compilation. The first book takes place mostly before he's a vampire and is quite a bit slow. Once he becomes a vampire towards the end of the book things get much more interesting. The following books were really quite great. It was really a unique take on vampires not because they were physically different but more because instead of being alone dark knight blah blah soo much pain, it was a vampire with a living supportive family. I loved the interplay between the character and the family as well as his gradually learning about his new life (in the book they've never heard of vampires or anything like them) The last book was my favorite where he not only has interplay with his family of which i adore his sister most, but also comes to terms with a child he had not known about conceived before he became a vampire. The look at family and fatherhood while still including the supernatural twist was refreshing.
4 of my favorite books of all time collected in one place. I never get enough of reading these, the historical fiction off the revolutionary war from the side of the loyalists, the old school vampire story, everything in this series I love it all.
I tripped across this omnibus in a friend's house, started it out of curiousity, and promptly devoured the whole book in just a few readings. I really enjoyed this. Watching Jonathan try to cope with his life as a vampire, keep himself and his family safe, it was a fantastic read.
Likeable characters, although the story kind of jumped the shark in the last book. I read the kindle version and there were some typos earlier on, but fewer later on.
