Niobia Bryant is the award-winning and national bestselling author of more than fifty works of romance and commercial mainstream fiction. Twice she has won RT Magazine's Best African-American/Multicultural Romance Award, "Kiss the Ring"--written under the pseudonym Meesha Mink--was listed as one of the Library Journal's Best Books, and her books have appeared in Ebony, Essence, The New York Post, The Star-Ledger, The Dallas Morning News and many other national publications. One of her bestselling books has been adapted to film.
Kaleb has officially become my favorite Strong man. Kaeden's was my favorite until I read this one. May/December romances are my absolute fav's and this one surely doesn't disappoint. Since Zaria was only 42 I don't know if I'll classify her as a cougar per say, but since she was 12yrs older than Kaleb I guess it fits. These two went together like peanut butter and jelly. You really didn't notice their age difference, but I guess it will always be an issue when the woman is older, and the man is still young w/o any children. I could see why Zaria was hesitant about having a full blown relationship with Kaleb, but it all worked out in the end. The steam factor on the love scenes was definitely a 20! They were so hot, and very frequent in the beginning to middle part of the book. The only criticism I have is Kaleb and Zaria spent too much time apart after they broke up. I would have liked to read about them together more, rather than their relationship apart. Can't wait to read Kaitlyn's story, that one should be very interesting.
I really and truly enjoyed this story. The characters were both very believable, as was their first meeting and their love connection. I enjoyed reading the moments between the loving, which were the parts of her life that Zaria had committed to keeping to herself.
As a scorned and slightly bitter woman, Zaria had decided that men needed to be categorized. Her 'young men' were a favorite past time, meant for enjoying and then tossing aside. But as Zaria continues to spend time Kaleb and really learn about the man he is on the inside, her heart begins to defy her. Determined not to be another man's property, and therefore disposed of at his whim…Zaria dumps Kaleb.
There are many touching moments as each of these characters tries to learn who they are…after they have been 'them'. Zaria learns that she no longer wants to be the woman she thought she did. Kaleb, too, realizes that maybe a house full of kids is not in the cards for him, if he continues to pursue Zaria. As with life, love has its ups and downs. The person who looks good on paper may not be your love connection. Sometimes, opening your heart and your life to a new plan leads to the best solution. Enjoy!
“The Hot Spot” is the fourth book in the series about the indomitable and incredibly sexy Strong brothers of South Carolina. Thirty year old rancher Kaleb Strong is beginning to want what his 3 other brothers have already found; their happily ever after with adoring wives and growing families.
On the other hand, forty-two year old Zaria Ali has spent the last two years trying to forget 22 years of marriage and her faithless husband. With the love and support of her best girlfriends and her twin daughters, Zari has a sexy, sassy new outlook on life and a new job as a bartender at a fashionably hip night club. She’s not looking for Mr. Happily Ever After; she just wants Mr. Right Now. And then she meets Kaleb.
Sparks fly between the two the moment their eyes meet and, before you can order a Long Island Ice Tea, Kaleb and Zaria spend a weekend together rollicking between the sheets. Hot! Hot! Hot!
It isn’t long before Kaleb starts thinking that his one weekend stand with the intoxicating Zaria could grow into something more permanent. Zaria, on the other hand, finds Kaleb sexually explosive and addicting but marriage?—no way. Been there done that.
Ms. Bryant has given us two likeable, complicated and sexy characters. This isn’t a story about a “cougar” hunting a younger man. It’s a story about real people with real hopes, dreams, and fears but above all, feelings for one another.
This unconventional May-December couple will keep you turning the page through their every up and down and delicious coupling until the very end. Reviewed by the Dark Haven Diva (3 1/2 on DHBR site)
The first book in the series failed to grab my attention but because I love the author's work as a whole, I decided to follow up...boy am I glad I did. This is book4 (haven't read 2 or 3) and is a really good read. Kaleb and Zaria's slow dance to romance was a realistic one. They agreed to be friends with benefits but we all know that only works until one person catches feelings and wants to renegotiate the contract. Their differences made it a challenge but all in all the story is told without the sap that goes along with a lot of romance novels. This was just a well told story and I appreciate that.
Really good story, but I can't help wondering why the author decided to make Zaria Kaleb's love interest instead of Deena? Especially since Zaria and Deena's stories were almost identical. I read this story immediately after finishing Give Me Fever (maybe not the best idea), so Deena's story was VERY fresh in my mind, which is I guess why the switch is so distracting. Nevertheless, the book was good. This series is my first introduction to the author and I have really enjoyed reading about those yummy Strong brothers. I'm eagerly looking forward to Kaitlyn's story
When your trust has been broken, it is hard to trust the next person, no matter what your heart is telling you. Zaria Ali refused to let another man get close to her. She lives by the three (3) F rule, and is enjoying life, until she tries to forget twenty-six year old Kaleb Strong.
Read the turmoil both Kaleb and Zaria go through, your will see in maters of the heart age is only a number.
The three (3) F rule, for those who may not know. 1. Find Them 2. F_ _ _ Them 3. Forget Them
Cute love story pointing out that you don't have to try to be something different just because you feel like you missed out on opportunites before. You can still enjoy your freedom without trying to "prove" something. Zaria and Kaleb were such lovable characters, you couldn't help but want the best for both of them.
The series just seems to keep getting better and better. This story made me smile more than the others. I suppose the situation spoke to me, because I always preferred older, more established, women when I dated.
A really good tale that will tug on your heartstrings, if you have any.😁😁😁 Buy it, read it and enjoy!!👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥
Disclaimer: this is my first time ever reading a romance novel in its entirety, so I'm a newbie with a ton of assumptions/prejudices. I was delighted that this is a world fully populated by people of color (although the women are still described as "creamy" in reference to skin, why is "creamy" always a thing for skin in romance novels?). The story was actually quite engaging--even if I knew from the start that Zaria and Kaleb would end up together, I wanted to find out how. I haven't read any of the rest of the series about the Strong family, so a lot of the references to Kaleb's larger clan were lost on me, but I didn't feel like I didn't get the story because of it. So, engaging--but ultimately, so disappointing.
The good stuff: Both Zaria and Kaleb were actual people with realistic motivations and dreams, and I appreciated that. It was never "creepy cougar seizes hot young dude" because Zaria was, from the start, someone with whom to sympathize as to why she was chasing younger men. And Kaleb never seemed outmatched by her, so the age thing really wasn't a problem. Bryant comes right to the edge of mentioning it one time too many, but thankfully stays this side of that line. The sex stuff was great; it was written explicitly but not too flowery so that it felt like yes, these people would have sex like this (rather than wow, these are definitely two people in a romance bodice-ripper). And there were just enough side characters to make the dance between Zaria and Kaleb tense--there weren't gaping spots in the narrative where I just wanted them to figure it out, already.
The disappointing stuff: I am so, so frustrated that this is a book celebrating the power and beauty and independence of a mother liberated from a bad marriage that ends up erasing her entirely. I'll try not to be too spoilery (although that gives me a ton of leeway in a romance novel), but the last line of the book is "he realized that everything he hoped and dreamed for had come to fruition." Everything he hoped and dreamed for, everything he wanted. Zaria is only referenced in the last couple pages--it's the Kaleb show, and stars but I'm so over the fact that the guy is the important part of a romance. Literally everything Zaria said she didn't want happens to her and there's this clumsy workaround of her realizing that actually, she did want that, she was just fooling herself in saying anything else. STOP PIGEON-HOLING WOMEN LIKE THAT. The fiery and wonderful character of Zaria gets completely doused in the end and I am just mad as a hornet about that. The ending completely ruined an otherwise engaging and sexy book. Damn it, Bryant. Do better.
GOOD: The story itself was good. The older woman finding herself after her marriage to a selfish moron ends and dating younger men is a great plot line. I liked that Zaria went dancing a lot and had a phone numbers drawer. Good for her. I also really liked that Zaria went to therapy to fix her problems and she wasn’t just saved by dick. Shari Peele was a good, authentic narrator.
BAD: The brothers were too ‘feeling themselves-ish’ and the family dynamics were a little heavy on the annoying soul food cliche side. Ugh. Also that extended sex scene comprised of a fantasy turned dream turned prophetic vision was very awkward, uncomfortable, and unnecessary. It felt like gratuitous filler.
UGLY: Someone, for the love of all that is good, buy Bryant a thesaurus. Her very conspicuous repetition of words, especially within a few syllables to a couple sentences to its first usage was quite distracting. I wanted to stop reading and send the author a GRE vocabulary prep book or something. This was the worst repetition to which I've been treated in a long time. Seriously, Bryant, buy a thesaurus. Your work is suffering with outone.
There's nothing hot about this book. It contains poorly written, graphic sex that's a turn off. I love sexy romance books about African American families, with strong, interesting characters and fully developed plots. There nothing strong about Kaleb except his last name. Zaria is even more pitiful.
There's very little that believable about this book. Disappointing!!!
I didn't realize this book was a part of a series until after I had read it and I want to know about the other Strong men. I love that the story line was realistic - not far fetched - and it maintained my interest. I'm also thrilled that this wasn't a story portraying our black men as uneducated thugs or womanizers. "Strong" is a great description of this family.
Loved this book. Zaria is looking to have fun following a horrible divorce at 42. She meets a 20 something young man looking to settle down... hehehe. A mismatch— but the chemistry is so hot and they have to reach a common ground. Hilarious and witty. A truly fun read .
The author writes an excellent story that in my opinion expressed the phases of a broken relationship. The characters were good and the depth of dysfunction improved. I liked when the character, "Zaria" began to improve with a psychologist. Excellent series!
This is a contemporary romance. This is a 'cougar' romance. This is also book 4 in the Strong Family series.
The main characters include bartender Zaria Ali and cowboy Kaleb Strong. Zaria's husband has divorced her for a younger woman. After a little bit, Zaria loses some weight and begins working as a bartender and decides to live life to the fullest. Zaria and Kaleb meet on a night that Zaria is working and they begin a sex relationship. They both feel like they are 'scratching each others itches' (so to speak) as Kaleb is looking for a woman to settle down with and Zaria isn't looking to settle down. Throw in a couple of surprises, omissions, family, ex-husband, obsticles (external, internal and emotional) to over come, and this becomes a good book with good twists.
This was a good book. I'd probably give it a 3 stars. I felt that the author felt that she had to remind us that the main characters were African American (especially Zaria) by all of the sudden adding attitudes/comments that didn't seem to fit the characters that she built. Another thing that I couldn't seem to get over, and this isn't anything against the author, but their were parts that the editing wasn't too good. The ending also seemed a little too rushed or packed with too much. Over looking those things, this was a good book with a 'perfect/happily ever after' ending. The sex scenes were very hot tho. Even tho this is book four, I read it without reading the others in the series and would say that others can too. I would recommend it to people who like to read 'cougar' type books and like happily ever after stories and hot sex scenes.
This book was kind of slow for me. I am a fan of Nobia along with the other pen name she uses. This book did not seem like something she wouldve written but I had to realize that she did write "You Live & You Learn". I had to give her credit though because this book was not your typical urban book it was about more than that IT WAS ABOUT POSITIVE BLACK LOVE no drugs, no fights, no violence, just two people trying to make it work. But I caught myself wanting to know what will happen next between Zaria & Kaleb. In the middle of the book it gave me the "How Stella Got Her Groove" but that quickly changed. In my opinion Zaria seemed a immature, doing her hardest not to act her age, & bitter {hell she was bitter extremely!!!!}. She expected to Kaleb to be her puppy dog because he was younger than her but she failed to realize he was a manly man not some chump he was a remarkable man {beside the fact he assumed Zaria was a hoe because she slept with him on the first night}. The last place Zaria needs to be is a club -__- she needs to be in a church , asking god to soften her harden heart and make her realize acting young and doing all this young shit does not make her no better than her trifling ass ex-husband. This book could be a little cliché at times. Nothing less this is a good book for you if have nothing to do.
I really enjoyed this book and I didn't think I would. I thought it'd be one that I'd get, flip through, and put down but so much about it stopped me dead in my tracks. I loved the vibe her twins, her age, and her want to still have fun brought to the book. I didn't like the "if you're 42,you're too old to be in the club" vibe I got from this novel however. She was enjoying her time, killing it on the dance floor, and just having fun. It was very realistic in the ways they dealt with love, heartbreak and everything in between. Kaleb was Fantastic. I don't remember reading how old he was (I think abou 30?) but he had gray hairs of his own (or silver) so I didn't see the big deal in their age difference but I can understand being older than a guy and that can keep ringing in your head as the only thing that matters.
When I got this book, I didn't pay attention to it being part of a series and I don't think any of the other brother (or little sister, who's book I can't wait to read because just a few parts of her in this one and I see myself in her!) can top Kaleb but I guess I'm going to find out.!
BRIEF SUMMARY Zaria has started her life over after 20years of marriage to her high school sweet heart and 2 kids later. After Zaria’s ex husband Ned, left her for another woman it has taken her almost 2 years to get her life back on track. While her life seems to be better, though still hurt, she met Kaleb a younger man.
THOUGHTS I enjoy the author's work and this one delivers. In the beginning, I liked that we got to know a little about each character and their issues throughout different chapters in the beginning. I enjoyed Zaria along with her friends and daughters but I loved Kaleb's family. Kaleb has his commitment issues with finding the right woman and Zaria still has resentment issues caused by Ned, but once their affair started it was sexy, sweaty, and steamy. As for Ned he got what he deserves, I enjoyed Zaria's watch me leave moment because you ain't getting all of this again, now watch me walk away. Hehehe.

This novel The Hot Spot was written by one of my favorite authors under her "Love" pen name. I enjoyed this tale of love, family, business, and strength of Love. This book takes you to a place of Love and feeling of family and compassion. It is about a middle aged woman who has lost years of life and love and has to basically start over her life at 40. I feel in love with the colorful character of Zaria from the desciptions of her vibrant attitude, young girl clothes, and strong sex drive. The tale had the perfect blend of sexual and sensual. I loved the Strong family of men and their mother who always had the boys best interest at heart. Niobia Bryant is a talented author who writes from her heart and produces great stories full of passion, love and overcoming what people think is impossible. I loved this book.
• Once again Niobia has written an entertaining storyline with realistic situations • This was one of the better older woman/younger man storylines I have read • Good storyline of a woman who was heart-broken after many years of marriage and could not move on – kept trying to re-capture her youth – realistically done • Very good supporting characters – the Strong family (you can feel the love and respect), loved Zaria’s twins • As always – the love/sex scenes were hot/steamy • Good use of humor – liked how Jade warned Kaleb about her mother • The relationship/breakup/realization between the couple was well-paced and developed – the story did not feel rushed
I was disappointed with this book. The characters are sexy and interesting. I can only imagine the pain and heartache of having your husband leave you for a younger woman. The main character of this book chooses to go into "cougar" mode. Sleeping with younger men with a higher endurance then discarding them like dirty laundry. The concept would be great but the book moved to slow. The sex scenes were imaginative but the out of bedroom scenes could have been better so the relationship that was developing was built on something besides sex and love at first sight.
This was a very cute and romantic story complete with hot and steamy moments and love. Even though this is the 4th romance in the Strong Brothers series, this was my first time reading one of the books in the series. This one was about Kaleb Strong. Although his love interest “Zaria” is 12 years older than he is, I really didn’t notice the age difference. There was instance chemistry between the two. This book, made me smile and almost shed a tear. So Sweet!
I Love the Strong clan. This was an excellent story filled with drama and romance. Kaleb shows that he loves hard and is a man's man. Zaria needed some time to grow up and act her age. But, once they got it together it was all good. Niobia has done it again.
beat all the rest ...this is really the best in the series ..love love it...bought. it at Barnes and noble today and finished it already couldn't put it down love the the baby part. congratulations Niobia u r here to stay ..
I have really enjoyed the Strong family. While Zaria is looking to live the life she missed out on by getting married and having her twins Kaleb is looking for the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Enjoyed their love story and her twins. Can't wait for next story.
Ok, this is my second time reading this book. I don't like May December romance, so I'm sure the first time I read this I gave it few stars and rushed through it. This time I savor the book and admit I like it, I really really like. Kaleb is my favorite second to Kaeden.
I was definitely rooting for Kaleb. I felt he was mature and knew what he wanted. I was surprised how Zaria carried herself and hoped that she will change her exterior to match her maturity. Good story.
This was the first book I read by this author and I thought the story was great! The characters were believable and unconventional because the leading lady was slightly older. The characters interactions flowed well and were sometimes comical. All around very entertaining book!
