TEAR
IN TIME (book 1): After a traumatic loss on the operating table, Dr.
David Warner enters an elevator and descends into the American Civil War
(1862). That one death changes the world forever.

PRISONER IN TIME (book 2): Dr. Warner must travel back in time once again, this time to save a patient and his troubled brother.

Tear in Time Synopsis:
Dr. David Warner descends in a hospital elevator, and is transported in time to the Civil War, 1862.

In order to survive, he must gain the trust of Dr. Jebadiah Morgan, an old Civil War surgeon, who is as skeptical of David as he is intrigued. Demonstrating advanced surgical skills in difficult primitive conditions, he wins Dr. Morgan's confidence and they soon become close friends.

David's experience with such a brutal war is shocking and fearful. While in a desperate search to return home, David is thrust into the infamous Battle of Antietam. Overrun and greatly outnumbered, David reluctantly assumes command of his battalion and turns the tide of their capture.

Having narrowly avoided death at Antietam, David is forced into command once more: the Battle of Gettysburg. Alongside General George Armstrong Custer, the two develop and execute an ingenious plan to change the outcome of the battle and ultimately, the war.

As David nears the end of his journey, he is gravely wounded. With time running out, his survival depends on the future.

Christopher David Petersen (1963 – 20??). Born and raised in Connecticut. As a child, I was always daring and reckless. Never one to let common sense stand in the way of a great adventure, my bold feats of stupidity were legendary… Huckleberry Finn would have been proud.

“Surprisingly”, that same spirit carried over into adulthood, as I sought out entertainment that included: scuba diving; ski Mountaineering; mountain biking; Rock, Ice and Mountain climbing; flying planes; golf, motorcycles, the stock market and of course, experimentation with various alcoholic refreshments.

Later in life, writing became an extension of my deep desire to experience “new and exciting worlds”. I have written several books, but none have been published through any formal channels… I’ve heard the process is long, painful and laborious, the thought of which sickens me. My foray into e-publishing came after a friend suggested my works could fetch dollars instead of dust inside my sock drawer… a righteous observation. My recent publications are the result of this advice.

An Engineer by trade and Writer by passion, I have worked all over the U.S. and usually write in my spare time… that is when I’m not enjoying a bottle of Scotch and a quality cigar. I am a naturally long-winded individual, so writing is what happens when I can’t get anyone to listen to me anymore…

I love all kinds of genres but gravitate more towards suspense. There is nothing like the build up to a great climax… What a rush!

With my new discovery in self-publishing, I have become focused and more determined to produce far greater works. Further adventure/suspense novels are soon to be released.

Let's start with saying that I love time travel books. I've read lots of them already and many, many more fanfics with the theme. This one - it's definitely a high quality one.

It's set during the war between the South and the North in the US. I had never found this topic interesting and had never read much about it before. Still, I found this book captivating. Petersen's writing style is very vivid (beware the explicit surgery scenes). His book has this momentum that just captures your attention and never really lets go. The only flaw - elaborate dialogues that sometimes seem unnatural - e.g. while galloping from the enemy.

I really want to read the third book in the series - it has a more interesting setting.

I downloaded Tear in Time as a sample and it sat on my Kindle for some time, until I read it. The problem with this book is that once you start reading it, you can't stop as it has a really good momentum that drives the story forward.

The basis of the story, of a surgeon accidentally being propelled backwards in time to the American Civil War may seem a poor choice, but in fact is perfect for the story. It is apparent that the writer either has prior experience of surgical techniques and the period, or has done extensive research.

Throughout the book you are treated to great descriptions of the events of the time. I have found, with many books, not just those that are published on the Kindle, that the authors 'great idea' is so engrossing that they forget to describe the situations from the protagonists viewpoint. This is not the case with Tear in Time, you feel that you are deeply interested in how David Warner and Jebediah Morgan are affected by the bloodiest conflict that the American People have ever been involved in.

All in all then, a terrific read that I cannot recommend highly enough.

What a beautiful story this is. Total reading pleasure.

I will confess that I did stop and wonder how I'd forgotten to read the bit in the blurb that mentions the Civil War. I don't like books that talk about war. Just don't find them interesting. And I so could have missed out on this book, which gets me rather annoyed with myself! Because here it's not just about A fighting B, it's the background to a beautiful story of friendship and honour and loyalty. You get to see how the war and its tragedies affect the protagonists, and you can't help but put yourself in David's shoes and wonder how you would cope had you found yourself in the middle of a battlefield at the snap of a finger.

I thought the writing was flowing really nicely and the book was easy to read, even the fighting scenes were related in a way that made them easy to visualise. The end was absolutely wonderful and quite unexpected, and is actually somewhat different to the usual "gone back in time" kind of story.

Thanks Chris for this little beauty, and for reminding us that true friendship is a wonderful thing that will transcend time. This book has my recommendation :)

I've always enjoyed books about time-travel, and this one's a winner! A Tear in Time grabs your attention from the first page and doesn't let go until the surprise ending. I love the way Petersen combines the fascination of time travel with the "real" feel of historical fiction. Another of its strong points is the father-son relationship that develops between the two doctors. It's a "human" story, with some suspense and comedy thrown in.
As a writer myself, I've found that a lot of indie ebooks have good stories, but mediocre writing. That is NOT the case with this book. A Tear in Time is a well-crafted book. In fact, it's one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time. If I'd paid $15 for this book I'd feel I'd gotten my money's worth. At $2.99, you can't go wrong! I highly recommend this book! -RDM

Christopher Peterson tells a great story, here. I'm not a particular fan of time travel, but in this case, it provides a good vehicle for the development of the complex tale of one man's personal growth. Engaging on a number of levels, Tear in Time is good entertainment.

I am a fan of time travel stories (see my blog this week 2/6/12 for more: http://www.mikecoe.blogspot.com) and this was a good one. Chris did some good research on the story and if you enjoy the Civil War period, you will enjoy this novel.

Very good book. While the dialogue could be trying at points the ending more than makes up for it. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

Very good book, hard to put down. I did get confused though where on page location 2205 (Ebook) it said the Civil War ended at the beginning of 1868 and this was not explained in the book that I could see. Maybe I missed the explanation. As we know the war finished in 1865. Very well written, loved it.

I only knew what the author posted on Twitter "A doctor steps into an elevator and descends into the Civil War," when I bought this book. I had it in my head that it was a time travel novel but quickly learned that it was a war story. I'm not into war in books or in movies, but decided to press on even though the first third of the book is one graphic, gross body-part amputation after another under dirty, field conditions by 19th century medics who weren't much more than butchers. Then came battle after battle, chapter after chapter, and the story of the two doctors began to work in. To my surprise, it turned out to be quite a good story as well as an up close and personal look at the non-glorious side of war.

The writer did an impressive job in describing some of the Civil War battles, drawing the reader in to where one experienced the horrors of the fighting, the bravery of the soldiers and the grim despair in the medical tents. I am an amateur genealogist, having traced my first born male line all the way back to our English immigrant, a planter for the crown and member of the local militia. Our men fought in every major war from the Revolutionary through Civil, WWI and WWII, but thankfully the last one served after Korea and before Iraq. I have a better grasp on my Civil War ancestral father now, who left his slave-owning father's plantation to fight for the north with the 7th KY Cavalry, wounded but not captured in the battle of Richmond, and my favored Revolutionary War ancestral father, wounded at Germantown with Gen. Washington. Thanks, Chris Peterson, for an intense, touching and well-researched look at that terrible war.

My apologies to the author for taking so long to finish this book. My reading activity took a dive right after I started it. The amount of time taken in no way reflects upon the author's work or the lure of the story.

Christopher D. Petersen's Tear in Time is a novel which explores both history and fiction. This novel obviously involved an amazing amount of research. Both the Civil War scenes and the medical scenes are intricately detailed, mapped out, and described. As I wondered where the author was taking us, I marveled at the amount of effort he had put into building a believable time story. Time travel is always fascinating to me and Mr. Peterson's take doesn't involve any complicated theories or machines; it simply takes one man out of his element and places him in another, allowing him to use his talents and develop new ones. It allows us to see the "what could have been" of history and it give's Mr. Petersen's characters the opportunity to evolve. If you're looking for a fiction novel on the civil war with a twist, you should give Mr. Petersen's Tear in Time a try. Even if you aren't into "time stories" the mere detail is worth the experience.

I debated on whether to give this story three stars or four, since it is an intriguing story and the surgical procedures of the twenty-first century were very well researched. The author's knowledge of the American Civil War was also very impressive. However, there were two aspects that I wondered about.
Firstly, I'm not sure if a doctor would actually lead men into battle and fight thereby killing the enemy. I would have thought this would have come into conflict with the Hippocratic Oath of 'do no harm'. I believe that in the past, medics didn't carry weapons although they do now if only to defend themselves and their patients. But secondly, I felt saddened that in every generation of the Morgan family, one 'son' trained as a surgeon in order to fulfill his destiny if called upon to do so. The fact that no 'daughter' took up the baton made me grimace. I would have thought that at least one in the last fifty years might have been given a chance.
All in all, I did enjoy this story and I think four stars is well deserved.

There are hundreds of books on the market today. But, there are few that are page turners. Tear in Time carries you from the year 2005 back to a time in our nation’s history filled with turmoil; the American Civil War.
I appreciated the value of the reader being led through the atrocities of battle as well as living the interaction between a time traveler and the men who fought for this nation we live in today.

Chris Petersen takes you through this time in a well designed plot that leaves you almost being able to smell the taste of war. Through the hardship of a soldier’s life and the brotherhood that battle brings, you will begin to understand through his words how much and how little our world has changed toward our fellow man.

I applaud Chris Peterson for the brilliant climatic twist at the end of his story. A reader always asks himself if he would buy this book for his collection. Let me answer this for you, “You will not regret it."

Tear in Time is a fantastic fantasy novel about time travel. Dr. David Warner is a brilliant young surgeon who goes back in time through a portal. He ends up right in the middle of the Civil War, where he teams up with Dr. Jeb Morgan, a Civil War doctor. David teaches Dr. Morgan about modern medicine, while Dr. Morgan teaches David about real survival, prior to the age of needing a cell phone to “survive.” Author Christopher Petersen takes several jabs at the shallowness or modern society and our dependence on our conveniences in this novel. He also presents a plausible alternate history had events gone a certain way, given a small disruption in the past. I was very impressed by the attention to detail that Petersen paid to historical figures, making them come alive, and to medical terminology (I understand amputation much better now!).

A Tear in Time is an amazing story that follows David, a young surgeon through a "tear in time" to the American Civil War, where his surgical skills and knowledge of treating infection prove to be invaluable. He meets Dr. Morgan, a fatherly figure who he becomes close to and they work closely together as they treat the wounded from one historical battle to the next, all the while trying to get David back home. In a Tear in Time, Christopher Petersen has written a wonderful novel about friendship and loyalty, about what we have given up with our modern conveniences. The flowing dialogue, historical descriptions, interesting characters and central conflict will keep you flipping the pages all the way to the satisfying (and surprising) ending. Great read!

I will start by saying that this isn't my usual type of book. I don't generally read war stories, politics or American history so I wasn't in my comfort zone. However, I was swept along by the story, the medical matters and the characters in this time-slip novel. The hero of the book is befriended by a fellow surgeon he meets in the past and their mutual understanding and co-operation are what gives this book its strength. He knows the outcome of the Civil War of course, but his own actions have unexpected consequences.

It's an interesting book, quite fast paced and exciting. As a horror story reader I didn't find the blood and guts off-putting but rather, I was fascinated by the descriptions. Well worth a read.

This is an amazing read, especially if you like history, because when the tear in time opens you will be taking a trip back to the civil war alongside Dr. David Warner and spend time with him during the hard and trying times during a dark period in our nation's history. The author did a fantastic job making the past come alive and threw in a few curve balls along the way. I loved the feeling of this novel and the possibilities and also a few impossibilities his time travel proposes. Great job by an author I plan on spending a lot of time reading.

When Doctor David Warner leaves 2005 through a tear in time, he goes back to the Civil War. His presence there has interesting repercussions for history.

I love time travel tales, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The ending surprised me, plus I learned so much about history and a little about science. I enjoyed the discussions between David and Doc Morgan. They touched on some deep, thought-provoking ideas. They're both very likable characters, and I'm going to miss them.

The thorough research done for this novel shines through every chapter. The time travel aspect is handled in a deft fashion that requires only a small amount of suspension of belief. The prose is clean, the dialogue flawless. I'm very pleased that this author has other published works available and I look forward to enjoying them as well. Highly recommended.

As the first book I have read from this author, I was not expecting much. But the price was right (kindle), so I decided to give this a go. I love time-travel stories, and as a bit of a history buff, the description of the book seemed right up my alley.

I could not be more happy. I could not stop reading this story! A true page-turner. Great value for your money.

I read at least one book per day, so I give 5 stars to the ones I feel deserve it. This was fabulous! Modern medical doctor thrown back into the Civil War. No romance here & certainly not needed. A truly great read. A twist at the end I never saw coming. Great ending. I cannot wait to read his next book!
