After her fiancé calls off their wedding, Brooke Clayton has nowhere to go but home.

This book is part of a miniseries called Rocky Mountain Heirs, and it involves a group of five or six cousins who are bound by a will to live in the small mining town of Clayton, Colorado, for one year’s time in order to receive $250,000 and 500 acres of Colorado land. It’s a strange plot device, but it works, as we see the different cousins in each book react to their situation. Brooke Clayton, 23, the heroine of this book, is back from college in Denver and looking for work following a failed engagement. She finds widower Gabe Wesson, 33, who is the owner of a silver mine and who needs a nanny for his 4-year-old son.
The author deals with the couple’s 10-year age difference nicely, with Gabe having a lot of doubts about dating Brooke and Brooke having to defend herself from her white trash Clayton cousins who accuse her of sleeping with her boss. The Clayton family is basically the Colorado equivalent of the Hatfields and the McCoys and generally it’s one side of the family that causes all the trouble because if all the cousins don’t come back and stay for one year, the fortune goes to the other side of the family.
I’ve really enjoyed reading about this group of relatives. This is the first book in the series; the second (The Sheriff’s Runaway Bride) takes a look at Kylie Jones, who is a minor character in this book. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story, and the reader sees the characters grow and heal. Recommended for romantic suspense fans.
I liked the story and A.J was too sweet for words!! I like the setting of the book, and I'm intrigued by the whole feud thing ... but what I didn't like was that at times the church thing seemed a little forced, like it didn't flow naturally into the story but was added later.
Another thing is that I wanted answers, I know there are other books in the series that ties into this one, so the plot can't be solved already, but I feel like some things should've been answered here in this book, like a proof of who was tormenting Brooke ... Also, and this is a wild guess and speculations on my side, but I believe that Macy might really be a Clayton-spoiler: actually I think she's Brooke's sister!!!- but that's just me, we shall wait and see ..
Loved the book. It was a page turner. Brooke's fiance calls of the wedding so she heads home to fulfill the will that her grandfather had stipulated. Gabe her neighbor requires a nanny but because of the loss of a younger sister Brooke is afraid to take care of his son. Hmm sounds interesting doesn't it. Well you need to read it. It really keeps you wanting to turn the page to see what's going to happen next. J
Brooke went home for the sake of getting her inheritance from her grandfather but got more than she bargained for. Alot of problems with the other side of the family had her wondering just who was making her life miserable. She found a job as a nanny next door for a widowers young son who fell in love with Brooke. She liked Gabe, the father, from the start but didn't know if she could become involved with him. this was a very good quick read!
Enjoyed reading this book and getting to know Gabe and Brook. Both had much hurt from their past but with a lot of help from God those times were put aside and new adventures are in the future. Read this book.
What a sweet start to this series. Brooke hides her fears and struggle, but when she agrees to be AJ's nanny they are forced to the surface. This romance includes suspense and a storyline that will continue on through the remainder of the series. So read in order!
Great story about the Clayton Family inheriting a fortune, only they had to live in this town for one year. The grandfather set up these rules, but getting the family there was not easy, only one showed up but there were troubles, enjoy.
The Nanny’s Homecoming is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Heirs Miniseries. The story starts out when the grandchildren of Grandpa Clayton come to his funeral. The town is named Clayton after the family. It’s a small run down town which Grandpa Clayton has plans for even after his death. After the funeral, the grandkids come together for the reading of Grandpa’s will. Grandpa Clayton decides to leave each of them a large inheritance. The only catch is all of them must come back to Clayton and live there for one year. If even one of them does not do this, they all lose their inheritance and the money goes to the other side of the Clayton family, which the family has been in a feud with for a long time. This story focuses on Brooke, a grandchild who came back to live in Clayton after the funeral and breaking up with her fiancé.
Gabe comes to Clayton to reopen the Lucky Lady mine. He brings with him his small son AJ. Since Clayton is so small there are no daycare centers, so he is looking for a nanny. Gabe meets his new neighbor, Brooke Clayton and even though he thinks she is not very reliable and scatterbrained he seems to connect with her and ask her to be his nanny. Brooke has decided she wants no children and finds every excuse not to take the job, even though she needs the job, is great with kids and seems to make AJ happy. She ends up feeling a connection to Gabe just like he did for her and decides to take the job. Brooke believes she is responsible for her younger sister’s death after Brooke was suppose to be watching her and that has made her want nothing to do with being in charge of kids, and she tries to get over that by taking the job. But when someone starts stalking Brooke to try to get her to leave Clayton and bad things start happing at the mine, AJ is placed in danger and Brooke regrets taking the job. Will she ever get over the loss and guilt from her sister’s death? Will the feelings Brooke and Gabe feel for each other ever amount to anything? You have to read, The Nanny’s Homecoming, to find out.
I really enjoyed the story. I enjoyed seeing how much Brooke grows through the story to get over her guilty feelings associated with her sister’s death and I loved the characters. I can’t wait to meet some of the other grandchildren and what happens to them in Clayton. I loved how the author gives us clues in this book for the next book in the miniseries, and that makes me want to read the next book as soon as it comes out.

The Nanny's Homecoming by Linda Goodnight Book 1 of Rocky Mountain Heirs A feud is alive and well in Clayton, Colorado. Unlike the Hatfield's & McCoy's this feud is Clayton's VS Clayton's. Samuel Clayton's bunch believes that George Clayton took what belonged to them and now that George died, the feud is at new heights. If the six grandchildren of George don't come home to Clayton and live their for a full year, all the inheritance money and land will go to Samuel's family. Grandpa George knew that would entice the kids to consider the offer, along with gaining land and a quarter million dollars each. The kicker is that each of them must return to fulfill the will.
Brooke Clayton has just finished college, has no job, and recently her wedding plans went down the drain. So here she is in the family home. She needs a job and her handsome neighbor with the adorable son needs a nanny. Problem is that Brooke don't trust herself to be around kids. An old memory haunts her and she can't get past the guilt of it. It don't take long for the toddler, AJ, to creep into her heart and Brooke breaks through her fears to try and give the sweetie the love and attention of a woman.
Widower Gabe Wesson has just bought an old mine from George Clayton. He likes finding places that need a boost as long as there is still a chance to revive them. And he sees where that can happen in Clayton. When he meets his new neighbor, Brooke, he is attracted to her but she is young like his deceased wife was. Gabe can't get past the thoughts of all young woman acting like Tara did.
Someone is trying to scare Brooke out of Clayton and at the same time Gabe struggles with problems at the Lucky Lady Mine that shouldn't be happening. His company is known for safety and integrity. Can these two get past their past and present problems and find a life together? This is book one and it looks like it will be a great series.
OH MY!!!....I am in TROUBLE!!! I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, everything about this book! (Although I am a FAN of Linda Goodnight!)...The 1st in a 6 part series "Rocky Mountain Heirs" (I only have 2), which means I'll have to purchase the other four!
Brooke Clayton returns home to her timy Colorado town. If she can survive a yr, in tiny Clayton, founded and named after her family, she'll have fullfilled the odd terms of her estarnged Grandpa's will....Except the 'OTHER' side of the clayton family 9Brooke's Grandpa's, estranged brother's side) is set on destroying Brooke's side. Gabe tries everything to fight his attraction to his 'YOUNG' fresh out of college Nanny....At 10 yrs older, and having lost a YOUNG wife. He feels Brooke is 'TOO YOUNG' for him.....Given their past, do they dare fit together as a family?
I LOVED Brooke and Gabe's relationship....Given the cover model, I found it funny that throughout the book his biggest things is 'he's TOO OLD." "She's TOO YOUNG." rEADING THE STORY, i KEPT PICTURING HIM older LOL! And on the cover she IS YOUNG, but Gabe DOESN'T LOOK as old as he's making himself sound. Not by the picture anyway. AWWW!....I actually got teary during the last chapter and epilogue....VERY GOOD BOOK!!!....On to 'The Sheriffs Runaway Bride' featuring Brooke's BIG BROTHER, Zack.
The Nanny’s Homecoming, written by Linda Goodnight and published by Harlequin’s Love Inspired line, is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Heirs series. This book is a wonderful surprise as Goodnight quickly lines up the conflict which will reign throughout the series. A grandfather has died leaving his sizable estate to the children of two of his sons. The stipulation for inheritance however, is that all of the offspring must return to and live in their small hometown for one year. Otherwise, a third son and his offspring will take the entire inheritance.
The Nanny’s Homecoming is the story of the first offspring’s return to the town. From the very first chapter we find that she has grave misgivings about coming home. She has a secret to hide that could impact her future happiness. There is also a mystery that shrouds her homecoming as someone seems to always be lurking just around the corner.
A romance blossoms in this book that is very satisfactory to the reader as he/she plunges deeper into this delightful story. The book ends with a cliff hanger that will be further developed in sequels.
This story has believable characters that are fun to love, a fast-paced plot and a beautiful setting. It is an appropriate read for anyone who loves inspirational romance set in a small, beautiful town in the mountains. Once this book is read, the reader will anxiously await the sequels, which fortunately are being released monthly because several well-known authors are sharing this project.
A friend sent me this book and I am grateful. This is a nice story and the first in the Rocky Mountain Heirs series. Brooke is back in Clayton due to her grandfather passing away. He has a stipulation in his will that affects the 6 cousins. Brooke needs a job but not working with children. She is so sure she can't work with children but finds she is drawn to AJ, Gabe's son. Gabe is a wealthy businessman who lives next door and needs a nanny for his son AJ. We see how the pass can affect us into the future especially when it happens to us as a child. Brooke can't get past something that happens when she was a child and this clouds her thinking into adulthood. There also seems to be someone trying to scare her and trying to make her leave. I enjoyed the story and its left me wanting to read the rest in this series. I want to know what will happen. The book although in the series and number one is still a complete story in itself. Good read.
Brooke Clayton has returned to her Colorado hometown for the reading of her grandfather's will. What a surprise awaits her and her five cousins. Each one of them is left a substantial monetary amount only with the provision that they return to their hometown and live there for one year. If not met, then all the money and land will revert to the heirs of their Great Uncle Samuel, a part of the family with whom they have feuded for years. This is the first of the Rocky Mountain Heirs books that will deal with each of the cousins as they return. Brooke suffering from guilt from her childhood concerning a tragic accident, is given the opportunity to become a nanny for her wealthy widower neighbor's young child. However, her past is making her very reluctant to accept. Moreover, this neighbor is quickly becoming a romantic interest. A sweet and entertaining romantic and inspirational story.
Truth be told…I don’t usually pick up the Love Inspired line from Harlequin cuz they usually make me end up in a sobby mess. I’m the kind who easily cry at touchy plots. and this book, The Nanny’s Homecoming by Linda Goodnight is one hell of an emotional roller coaster ride.
I like how the story was constructed. It was smooth and I feel as if I was thrown into the world of the characters. It’s a lovely, inspiring story, and I definitely would not mind reading this book again anytime soon. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. And kudos to the author for writing such a wonderful, emotional story.
Interesting kickoff to the new Rocky Mountain Heirs continuity series. Intrigued by the six cousins and how they will manage to claim their inheritance. Will Lucas show up? Will Vivienne return from NY? Will the two feuding sides of the Clayton clan ever make up?
This story was okay for me. Usually a Goodnight book gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. This one, not so much although still very enjoyable. Great climax. Loved Brooke and Gabe. Hope we see more of them in books to come. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
I really enjoyed this story. However, I had a bit of trouble with the ending. This book is part of a series (Rocky Mountain Heirs) with which I am not familiar. Perhaps the next book, or books, in the series will reveal the identity of the villain who caused so much trouble in The Nanny's Homecoming (Steeple Hill Love Inspired. There is suspicion, but he is never positively identified.
Basic Harlequin romance, the Christian version. He's always praying and considering God's will. They participate in stuff at church and he's glad to learn that she's a Christian. A little over-the-top on the religious stuff and over all the writing and story is mediocre. Thanks to NetGalley for a review copy
Always love reading Love Inspired books. The Nanny's Homecoming was a great book with a wonderful story to tell. This is the first book in Rocky Mountain Heirs series so on to the next book I go......
Not a terrible book, but not spectacular either. A.J. was super cute but the plot twists seemed too desperate. A couple things felt left unresolved too. It is part of a series though, so I guess some of them may be addressed in the next book.
I am a fan of Love Inspired Series and I really liked the first in this one..Can't wait to read the rest..Good Christian plot with romance and some mystery..
