One of a new series of vibrant animal novelty board books by an award-winning creator. Pecking, tugging and flying quick quick quick - where could this little bird be off to in such a hurry? To feed her chicks of course! Cleverly placed cut-outs on each page provide a fun element in this innovative new novelty treat. Innovative and brightly coloured with a fun surprise ending. Petr Horacek won the Books for Children Newcomer Award in 2002 for Strawberries Are Red and What Is Black and White?.

Very cute. Bold, bright water color illustrations compliment a short, sweet story that includes a mama bird and her babies--little ones love stories about mamas and babies! I love the creative use of cut-outs in the board book pages. It offers an added interest without compromising the strength/durability of the book.
My 7-month-old seemed to enjoy this book. It's very simple, but definitely grabbed her interest. She especially liked when I showed her the little cut out spots, such as the hole for the worm and the edge of the mountains. I like those small attention-getting details.
Another toddler at the library saw me putting books in our bag, so she helped out putting a few of her own (random) selections. I kept this one to read to Natalie. I read it to Natalie a couple times a week ago, but can't remember too much about it. So, it was entertaining at the time, but forgettable.
