Collects twenty-five tests to help job seekers discover their attitudes toward and aptitudes for work, and shows how to make decisions about the right career
This is a good start if you’re looking to do some introspection, but nothing is really life-altering or surprising if you know anything yourself. Some of the tests are tedious by design, especially with calculating scores, but it was interesting to quantify some of my skills/characteristics. I wish there was more of an actual connection with results and potential careers. Most were pretty basic or oversimplified, if any connection was made at all. For example, naturally one would think if I am altruistic I might enjoy a career in social work or psychology, but what else or what specifically? A lot of the same general fields were used over and over, but so many fields were left out or glossed over. I would call it more just a book of personality or self tests than career tests, but again this is a decent place to start.
The tests were really basic & I found it tedious & boring working out the scoring for each test. The interpretation of the scores was ok, but not really helpful & by the end of the book, I wasn't interested in reading anymore of the authors thoughts at all
Most of these were dry, boring and things that any moderately introspective person knows about themselves already! One test did help me refocus on what I value in a career: independence, variety and leisure. I don't care about leadership or income. Etsy, here I come!
