Jared can sense the fulfillment of his destiny approaching as he rushes through the cobbled streets with his blue mage robes flapping behind him. The kingdom of Galdavia prizes the mage gift above all others.
And Jared takes pride in his abilities. He knows he belongs at the Mage-Lord’s side.
Nothing can come between him and his rightful place.
A stand-alone dark fantasy story and winning entry of the Writers’ Journal Fiction Contest (2010) by the author of the World of Lasniniar epic fantasy series, Jacquelyn Smith.
Jacquelyn Smith is a Canadian author from the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario, where apologies are a regular part of most social interactions, and the second ‘T’ in ‘Toronto’ is definitely silent. (Sorry.)
Jacquelyn originally published several of the earlier titles in the Kira Brightwell series under the pen name Kat Irwin before she finally decided to kill Kat off in an effort to eliminate the many awkward questions about having a second identity.
When spending time in the real world, Jacquelyn lives with her husband Mark, and their feline owner Xena, who is definitely a warrior princess.
I downloaded this book last week and enjoyed it so much I read it twice over the weekend. It's one of those books that really rewards the reader for reading it a second time, as you're sure to notice things that second time around that you may have missed the first time. Jared is a great main character, and Jacquelyn manages to really make you feel for him. I can't say more without spoiling the plot, but if you want a great quick read in the fantasy genre, download this book!
This is a quick, interesting read. I loved how the main character's prejudice is challenged in a smart way. This is a great introduction to this author's work. There is a teaser at the end for her upcoming novel that definitely leaves you wanting more. Can't wait to read more from Jacqueline Smith. I'm going to purchase her other short story The God's Eye now.
