Goodbye heartache, liars and cheats. I’m hot-tailing it to the city to escape all my problems.
What I don’t expect is to find a whole heap more.
Right at the top of the pile: turns out I’m not the beta I always believed.
Nope, I’m an omega.
How do I know? Because the freaking hot alpha, Axel York, I bump into at the gas station, triggers all those repressed hormones and pheromones.
Hormones and pheromones I’m battling to control.
Then there’s his pack. Rich, powerful, ruthless. The pack every omega wants.
Thing is, they’re not interested in the city’s pampered princesses. They want me.
As do their arch rivals, Pack Boston.
Just as rich, just as powerful and just as freaking hot.
Now I’m caught in the middle of this tussle to claim me, struggling to determine what’s real and what’s false.
One thing I know for certain, neither pack is willing to lose.

This novel is part one of a duet - happy ending coming in part two.
If you love the sauciness and steam of omegaverse with the sweetness of contemporary romance, heroes with hard shells and soft interiors, and heroines who fight for what they want, you’ll love Hannah Haze’s soft and steamy books - omegaverse set in our world.
I'm Hannah Haze, a why choose paranormal romance author known for my sweet omegaverse books and not so sweet magical academy series. If you enjoy a touch of humour, a lot of steam and plenty of swoony, romantic moments; strong fmcs who know what they want and mmcs who vary from the devoted to obsessive, then I am the woman for you!
My other loves include long romantic walks in the countryside, undisturbed soaks in a hot bath and even hotter stories. I have one husband, three children, a very naughty cat and a new fluffy pupster. When I’m not writing stories, I’m thinking about stories, listening to stories, reading stories or dreaming about them.
Guys… I’m not even at 50% and I am having such issues already. And I feel BAD about that bc it makes me feel like a judgey, temperamental, Goldilocks type reader but apparently- I can’t seem to help myself. 💀
Look, the writing isn’t bad. Neither is the books premise. What I’m struggling with rn is all the Characters. Aside from Silver rn, none of the ML’s are making a good case for themselves in my mind as I read.
The FL, is of course, a different problem entirely. And oh. My. Gosh. Don’t even get me started on “Karl”. 🙄🤢
I’m not even done yet, but I felt so strongly about my “wtf” blips I kept stumbling upon in this book I genuinely needed to start my review of it like, NOW to start getting it all off my chest.
I’ll update this again soon when I’m finished. See ya’ll in a couple hours.
UPDATE! ~ March 31, 2023 4:56pm ~ UPDATE!
Just finished. It still feels like some BS. More review to come later.
FINAL UPDATE! ~ March 31, 2023 9:16pm ~ FINAL UPDATE!
Ok, I’m finally ready to review this at length, sorry for the delay. 😅 Unfortunately bc I have so many issues to relay I’m going to just make a bullet list of all the things I didn’t care for. Read at your own peril, my kindred spirits. 🖤
❌ The book doesn’t properly relay that the FL and her ex-fiancé’s were in a strained and abusive relationship before they split. We literally meet this girl as she is running from her old town because she is genuinely more terrified of small town gossip than she is of her ex-fiancé. Readers don’t get to understand until many chapter after the first chapter, where again, she describes leaving bc she doesn’t care to be the object of the latest neighborhood news and she needs a change of scenery, to randomly one chapter it turns out her ex was a toxic and controlling a-hole. Just, out of the blue. No proper build. No proper explanation. It’s like literally one chapter the author realizes they can make everything even MORE convenient for themselves by making their FL’s ex, who’s name is “Carl” with a “K” btw, a total foil for the ML’s to shine even more so against in comparison. Ugh, i don’t have a problem with any authors doing that it’s just in this case it was so poorly done it was glaring to me. 💀
❌ Hannah the doctors random 180 degree personality flip. Again, completely out of the blue when we first meet her she seems sane and safe and just another character in the book. The next time we meet her tho? Totally different person. Completely different flavor. Absolutely seemingly random change in direction from the impressions they first gave off. And that second time we meet the doctor it just becomes so obvious who the “bad guys” are going to be. No need to look further, the book might as well have marched you straight on up to a spooky castle evil lair complete with lightning bolts flashing and black bats winging around in the background. Again, I have no issue with the idea, but the execution was so poorly done I had to scoff in Offended as I read it.
❌ ALL of the ML’s are an issue. They are all equally as toxic, petty, self serving, self gratifying, narrow minded, arrogant and spoiled as the last. Silver is at least the most sensitive and therefore, the most human of the lot out of the bunch because he doesn’t outright declare the FL to simply be a fckable challenge at every opportunity. They also totally assume the FL is shallow enough that even if they don’t woo her over completely, their money will. That eventually she’ll bow to them in favor of the grand lifestyle they can provide her with if she chooses them.
❌ Also, their “wooing” is sht. They just go out to eat a bunch and send the occasional flowers. They don’t feel like they’re trying. Like, Axel and her see each other every day at the office. He doesn’t place a trinket on her desk everyday (coffee, a muffin, idk, a pretty new stapler)? He also never tries to put his own security or surveillance in place on the FL and just let’s Silvers pack do it all without a fight? Silvers pack btw- try to recall which one Tf Hank is while your at it- runs with her everyday also doesn’t make any small gestures of wooing her either. No personally curated running playlist made by one of them for her while she runs. No, idk, ML’s tripping on purpose so that the FL can fuss over their boo-boo’s and touch them a bunch while providing first aid. I really, really didn’t get any wooing here and if the angst isn’t there in Omega universes, then the courting should as sht be.
❌ “The Bet” that Axel and Angel make with each other. See the above first two “X’s” bc don’t worry, it happened again. I cannot stress this enough. There was no declaration of this bet, there was no mention of there even BEING a bet, there was nothing to suggest readers should be paying attention to a bet. Yes, I know this is most definitely an obvious competition between the two packs but no, aside from some mental acknowledgments that they were competing with each other as they always did, none of the ML’s ever once blatantly stated there was suddenly an ongoing Bet aloud. A bet that had the crux of what may as well have been their life’s work on the line, the realistate property.
❌ The cousin Courtney. This may be more of a personal ick and therefore my own issue but I completely loath the “best friend” character who’s only job it is, is to convince, bully, and push the boundaries and comfortability of the books FL constantly. This character does not respect the FL’s thoughts or boundaries and wheedles, guilts and harps on them instead with their BFF status, into giving the ML’s a chance. A second chance. A third chance. These characters are instant camping Player Killers to me bc of their singular role to create more forced proximity situations between all the characters.
❌ The FL loses her potency. She goes from small town nobody who’s never seen boo to the same judgmental omega archetype she sees so readily in her peers. The other Omegas who were again, just fodder characters to highlight the FL’s “I’m not like other girls” shtick. Spoiled, pampered, daddy’s girl, Mean Girl, catty, VAIN, empty girls who’s only true loves were handbags, gossip and being pretty and rich. All. Of. Them. Maybe it’s me and I overthink things, but when authors do this, describe and entire group of peers to be exactly the same with not one of them showing any sort of different character traits? It reads as so lazy to me. But don’t worry, (🙄) the FL sat back and judged them as instantaneously as they did her, but, you know, shes different. The FL sl*t shaming herself and remaining ignorant and judgmental of the other designations bc she still has such Beta mindset. (She accuses the Alphas only wanting an Omega for a slave and aside from her great aunt Tessie 🙄 she readily ropes all the other female omegas in together.)(I don’t think this book passes the Bechtle test…)
❌ I don’t actually feel an ounce of connection with any of these characters. Not even Silver. None of the characters interactions EXCEPT!!! For the Gas Station scene screamed as being an authentic connection between any two characters. The ML’s all just obsess over getting the Omega the other pack wants and then sleeping with her. The FL tries to “resist” them bc she’s not looking for a relationship rn but her basis for being “wounded” (her suddenly shtty ex-fiancé) is so poorly delved into or given background that her stubbornness over the whole thing feels like a half collapsed wall just waiting for the final shove. 😑
❌ The switching POV’s. *sigh* Reverse harems tend to have favorites and you can tell exactly who they are by how much “screen” time they get. None of the ML’s POV’s felt balanced. Like I was getting a good peek into their minds or having my questions answered or feeling what they could be feeling for the FL (other than lust) bc so many of the ML’s chapters were just Axel or Angel.
And that’s all I have to say and why I didn’t mesh with this.
It was too inconsistent for me. Too random. Too poorly built upon but still asking you to roll with it anyways like nothing was wrong.
I earnestly believe that this novel would have had real potential if those above bullets were done better but since they weren’t this was just messy and annoying to me.
they said bozo as an insult unironically… i know it used to be a common phrase back in the day but i heavily associate it with degen twitch streamer culture now that when one of the mmcs said it it gave me an immediate ick….
this book was a mess and i kept getting the mmcs mixed up thats how unmemorable they were to me, on top of that i could NOT stand the fmc. she was nothing special and it was hard to believe two of the most sought after packs in the city would fight to the death for her like this lmao
1. The world building is toxic. If you're not mated as an omega, you are not safe to go do anything. People will smell you are an omega and either rape you themselves or sell you to someone else to rape. Nice, author. Just the kind of world I want to be in.
2. Body betrayal. Basically, there is no such thing as true consent. Cause as much as she doesn't want to date, her omega-ness pretty much demands she say yes to these assholes.
3. All the male characters are assholes. I love this one quote where the heroine says "if they're all that and still single, I'm betting they are players". It gave me hope that she was going to push back. Cause they are. They've slept with pretty much all the omegas in the city but none were good enough for them to mate. The male main characters are spoiled brats who don't know how to take "no" for an answer.
4. As the above reviewer points out, NONE of these men try to woo the heroine AT ALL. They just keep showing up everywhere she goes and overwhelming her physically. Not by holding her down, but making sure they give her a whammy via their scent. All of their talk about having sex with the heroine felt super creepy. Like she's just an object to fight over. There are multiple instances where they talk about her and don't use her name. They just call her "the omega". Gross.
5. She's "not like all the other girls". Meaning she's not wealthy and is okay with being casual and "doesn't know how beautiful she is".
----
I could go on but the other reviewer did a better job than I ever will!
Alright this book is Omegaverse, and I’ve been looking for a good one. When I saw Hanna Haze wrote it, I had to read it. So good.I really enjoyed the story.
Tropes:
Why-choose Alpha/Omega
I loved reading about Bea and her Omega journey. Her meeting six yummy Alphas was everything. It was so fun watching how each Alpha approached her the mix of sweet and sexy moments had me hooked. You can’t stop reading. You can’t put it down. I enjoyed Book One and was left wanting more, not wanting it to end.
💌Verdict: I successfully found another author who ruined me in the best way.
I love a slow burn that makes you ache for it, but this was ridiculous.
The main character was so extremely naive, she acted like a stubborn little kid sometimes.
The pace of the story moved so slow, it felt endless. And on top of that, literally NOTHING happened 😩
An attend at giving a personality to each of the six alphas was made but I honestly can remember 3 names max.
I loved the concept of the story, two rival packs fall for the same omega. But the execution was questionable. Crossing fingers more happens in the second book..
Pack Rivals, Part One hit my radar right around its initial release, but I didn't want to read it until the second part came out so that I could just binge the duet in one go, and make sure I didn't forget any major plot points or characters. So, I waited... And the second the second book was released I started the duet.
Spoiler alert: it was not worth the wait.
I truly do not know if I can be bothered to write two separate reviews for the two separate books in this duet, so you'll have to excuse me for combining everything into one jumbled mess. Spoilers ahead.
Let's talk.
1. Our Alphas. The way that these dudes are almost so interchangable with one another is sad. As you read the books, it becomes clear that Axel & Angel mirror each other, Connor & Silver mirror each other, and Hardy & Nate mirror each other. Not completely, but enough that it's obvious. We get close to 800 pages of story, and by the end Silver and Nate are the only alphas that stick out in any way. Silver, because of how protective he comes off. And Nate because he's a bit of an unhinged killer but a huge cinnamon roll for our FMC. Hardy seems like an immature knockoff of Nate, and Connor seems like he was a quiet loner in high school and that's all we get. Axel and Angel are just... alpha-holes who fight. Also, the twist with Axel and Angel? Pretty obvious right off the bat the second the ONE singular similarity between them was mentioned.
And these alphas all have one thing in common: They're so far up their own assholes that they don't deserve an omega at all. Neither pack had a nest? Nor did they think of making one once they started courting the FMC? And speaking of 'courting' her... Despite them taking her out on a few dates, they don't actually ever truly court her. Nate is sort of the only one because he buys her a dress, gives her his prized possession (his knife), and constantly cooks for her and leaves meals without demanding anything of her. The rest of them do not do a single thing to actually court our FMC.
I'm not saying I'm expecting something crazy here, but I am saying that with 800 pages of story, I expected to get more character development out of our supposed heroes.
2. Karl The Ex. This was a major frustration for me. The ex's entire purpose throughout this duet is to act as a foil to our 'heroes,' and show just how BAD he was and how GREAT they are. When the story starts all we know is that Karl The Ex left our FMC at the altar for another woman. But as the story goes on, we get snippets of their relationship where it becomes clear that Karl The Ex was definitely an abuser. He controlled the FMC's life, what she wore, what she did, and he constantly tore her down. But... We don't dive into this at all? It's casually mentioned (again, to make the heroes look better) and then entirely glossed over, as if this poor woman doesn't have trauma from this years long abusive relationship.
Inevitably, our FMC is in her home town where Karl The Ex has returned. As a reader, we're definitely expecting some sort of moment between the two of them, especially after learning from the FMC's mom that Karl The Ex has been trying to weasel his way back into her life somehow. But that never happens??? All we get is her kissing Connor and Karl seeing as he drives by. How anticlimactic is that? Why build this up at all, in any way shape or form?
3. Not Like Other Girls Omegas. I'm not trying to sound like a cantankerous bitch. But I can't help but have beef with books where the author pulls this awful trope. In this book it's even worse, because our FMC isn't just different from other girls. She's different from other omegas. They all have zero personality and only care about materialistic things. But our FMC is different because she DOESN'T care about money, and she gives our Alphas what they really want; a kinky omega.
I mean... Barf. It's misogynistic and tired, and I genuinely think our story would have been much more interesting if we had other female omegas who befriended our FMC and added to the story. The current set up makes it seem like all of these omegas should be fighting for these two packs, but what do they have to offer? Money? That's it? Give me more depth, please.
4. The dichotomy of light and dark. This book is intended to be a sweeter omegaverse, but we're dealing with some plot points that are definitely more dark. Which could be fine, if it was well built out but, of course, it's not.
Just one example of how this doesn't work is with our main climax, where the guys rescue the FMC from the snakebites at the end of book 2. Their personas seem to teeter between legal, normal business men and potentially men who have more power and questionable morals and rule the city. It's unclear about where on that moral line they fall, so it just doesn't work very well.
Overall, this was a 2 star series for me. It could have maybe been saved a little more by better spice or by showing us their bonding, but we didn't even get that.
I couldn't put it down! I may have even stayed up till 2am just to finish it. We get a little drama, humor, angst and more. I loved Bea so much! She is sweet, sassy and smart. Her insecurities made her relatable which only made me love her character more! I don't think I can pick a favorite from the guys honestly. I liked them all. I think the author did a great job making each of them stand out. There were a few twists in the story. One I suspected, but the other I didn't. I thought this was a great start to the duet. I definitely have lots of questions and i look forward to getting those answers in the next book. That ending!!!! I cannot wait for book 2!!!
💜RH Omegaverse MFMM or is it MFMMMMM 👀 💜First Person/ Multi POV 💜No MM 💜Audible 💜No cheating, small OW scene (jealous omega who slept with the guys years ago during her heat) 💜Guys are manwhores, no OW once book starts 💜FMC is not a virgin 💜Beta to omega FMC 💜Slow burn, good plot 💜Only kissing/dry humping, no oral or sex 💜Emotionally abusive ex, cheats on her with BF 💜Kidnapping 💜Cliffhanger
FMC- Bea
Pack York- Axel, Connor and Nate
Pack Boston- Angel, Silver and Hardy
This was a reread for me. I read it when it first came out and rated it 4.5 stars. After listening to the audible, I decided to drop to 3.5 stars. (The narrators did a great job.)The amount of times the guys thought about being with OW and kept comparing Bea to them was so frustrating. And the fact that they called her THE omega all throughout both books really got on my nerves. I don’t even remember the guys ever saying her name, it was always the omega.
True to the title, there are two packs hoping to snag Bea our newly presented omega up. These two packs can’t stand each other and you only get a slight hint towards the end as to why. I’m sure all will be revealed in book 2. The bad guys were pretty predictable to be honest, and one of the ‘twists’ was obvious as well. I don’t feel like they were really trying all that hard to court her either. All they seemed to really care about is getting her under them.
Book starts off with her heading towards the city to escape her small town. To forget about her cheating/lying/emotionally abusive ex. He leaves her at the alter for her ‘best friend’ and took the BF to what was supposed to be their honeymoon. Dick move. She brings up some of the things he’s said to her during the book but there’s no flashbacks. I hope she gets retribution in book 2.
The ex took up too much space in this book. I get it, he was emotionally abusive and it’s hard for her to not think about it but Urgh. Kick Karl with a K out of your mind girl, he ain’t worth it.
Bea was very back and forth about wanting to date, then not wanting to date. There was a few kissing scenes, no spice until book 2 unfortunately. I was quite surprised actually. Not used to omegaverse books that aren’t heavy on spice. Not a bad thing, plot was good and kept me engaged. Didn’t realize it was over until the book ended, I was that invested lol I’m sure book 2 will very much make up for that.
I was really hoping she was going to punch Melody, or at least yell at her to turn her petty jealous butt around and mind her own business.
For once I’d love to read an omegaverse where the guys are virgins waiting for their omega like it seems most omegas do in basically every book. I swear just about every book I’ve read, at least one of the guys are manwhores. Typically most or all of them. There has only been ONE book where the guys were virgins and I just adored that and how special their firsts were. The alphas in this book have been with many omegas and most was during their heat. I don’t like the thought of that. I like when they experience a heat with their omega for the first time. It’s not as special if they’ve already done the song and dance hundreds of times. It would drive me INSANE if I was an omega for sure.

I love Hannahs books and this one is no different. What a cliffhanger and I can't wait for part 2. I love Bea and makes me sad how she sees herself and thinks she isn't good enough for her Alphas (and YES! They are going to be hers because come on how can they not be 😍😍😍) I know making the bet was stupid of them but I hope in book 2 they fight hard for her she deserves that and all the love (and knots) they can give her. Absolutely loved this book wanted the next book to hurry uo.

2.5 stars, although I enjoyed the book, there are too many reasons why I could not give the book itself higher than 2.5 stars and those reasons mainly have to do with the poor execution of the book.
Two packs that both contain three alphas are competing for Bea and trying to win her through dates. In those dates they try to make her understand why they should choose their pack and not the other.
The idea of it is nice, but during their pov of the "dates" they were only preoccupied with sexualizing Bea and how to get her into their bed than asking questions about herself. And even the chemistry between the two packs who are rivals was better than Bea’s with any of the guys.
I get that this is supposed to be a slow burn but all around this book felt more like a filler book than a first book because of how little happened in the book.
Also, I would have liked the build up in Bea and the boys' relationship to be different. There were multiple times in the book that the boys understood Bea her choices, but they didn't stick to it and were often pushy and acted if they didn’t know what no means. No real effort was made to gain her trust and really get to know her as a person and what her interests are in life and that was kinda sad to read. It felt like they were only doing certain things just to piss of the other pack.
They were more concerned with lying to her and when I reflect back to her relationship with them I still think the biggest danger they had to protect Bea from was themselves.
An exciting opening to the duet of books that leads us on an adventure of a beta woman who discovers rather abruptly that she is actually an omega. Her heart battered, she isn't sure who to trust and when the lies told by others start to mount up, she does what she knows and runs. Fun characters, interesting plot and entertaining dialogue. While I do think the characters could be fleshed out a bit more, by the end of the first book you are getting to know them all better. Fair warning, as with most duets, this book ends in a cliffhanger so make sure you have book 2 cued up and ready to go!
I am pretty new to Omegaverse and this one was a great read. Love the dynamics of the plot. Bea thinks she is a beta and after being left at the altar she moves to the city. During a job working as a waitress at a charity event she presents as an omega. Now she has the two most sort after Alpha packs fighting for her attention.
Unbelievably good! This book is packed to the gills with everything you need in a good rivalry. The two packs seem like there is nothing that could settle their issues with each other. At every turn, they keep making the wrong decisions and putting their feud above the Omega they need. And Bea. Sweet, sweet Bea has just lived through a humiliating heartbreak and terrible relationship in general. I can't wait to see the groveling in the next book...or what happens during her heat.
- The FMC annoyed the hell out of me. - I couldn't differentiate who was in what pack, they all sounded the same. - I found out the "twist" about the two alphas being brothers the moment it was mentioned about their eyes and how unique it was. - And the fact that the Omega clinic was shady wasn't a surprise either. - Karl took TOO MUCH space on the book, and again the FMC was annoying. - I think that Omegaverse isn't for me because I hate the insta-lust/love and how it is all about sex. - Don't know if I'll read the next book because I couldn't care less about any of them.

I JUST finished ‘Pack Rivals Part One’ by Hannah Haze and it was GREAT! (FYI, I’m not affiliated with the author and there are NO spoilers! 🙌🏻)
OK! So I’ve got a little confession to make 😳. This book IS an Omegaverse…. annnnnnnd… I’m not a ginormous fan of Omegaverses 😱! I know 😮! I know 😲! And here I am giving Emoji praise for one 🤯🤯🤯!
So here’s how it allll went down 👆🏻! I’m personally of the opinion that NOT ALL books in one genre or trope are all the same! Not all Why Chooses 💞+💞 are the same. Not all enemies-to-lovers 🥷2️⃣💘 are the same. Not all Paranormal 🧛♂️ Romances ❤️🔥 are the same. Not all Romance 💗 Fantasies 🧚♀️ are the same… you get the drift 😆! So I’ve made it MY MISSION 🚀 to FIND 🔎 an Omegaverse that I would love SO MUCH …. that I’d be INSPIRED 💭 to write an Emoji Review for it 🙌🏻! And I found it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!
What made me fall in love with this book, you say?! TWO✌🏻 things really! 1) a really FUN 🤩 concept in an omegaverse world AND 2) a FANTASTIC 💋🤌🏻 ending to Book 1…. like I NEED BOOK 2 STAT 🚨! (Oh and Book 2 comes out this month!! 🥳)
Alright ✅! So what’s the book about?! 🤔 The story kicks 🦵 off with a FMC who is a BETA!! She’s been DUMPED pretty much at the altar 💒 and is DEVISTATED 😫! She decides to move to a new town for a fresh start! This is a world where Alphas and Omegas are RARE. She’s never met one 😳! So here she is… in a new town, shacking up with her cousin in an apartment and all of a sudden… gets thrown smack dab into the middle of a rivalry of two HOT 🥵, WEALTHY 💰, POWERFUL 💪🏻 Alpha Packs (hence the name PACK RIVALS!)
Ok, so this really is a Why Choose on top of a Why Choose 👏🏻! It’s SLOW 🐢 BURN 🔥 and the FMC is strong willed … but also realistic at the same time! I mean COME ON! Being fought over by two SMOKIN 🥵 Alpha packs with some pretty great cinnamon roll & alpha personalities… pretty tough to stubbornly ignore, I’d say! She’s EVERYTHING they want and they are EVERYTHING she needs! 😍😍😍
This is a really fun rivalry that does not feel like a love corner 🔺 and is NOT ANXIETY 😖 producing! It’s just a GREAT ride that lands on a really great cliffy! But it’s not so terrible of a cliff that you have to wait until the next book comes out! The elements that I’m not a fan of in omegaverses in general… do not exist in this book! So this is really a win-win 🏆🏆 for anyone who likes a Why Choose! If you love an Omegaverse… then this is for you! 👏🏻 If you don’t like an Omegaverse… then guess what!! This is STILL for you too!! 👊🏻🙌🏻
So if you like a strong 💪🏻 FMC that ONLY may waver because it’s like… DUH 🙄! HOT caring guy alert! 😆… but still ends up strong 💪🏻, PROTECTIVE ❤️🔥 cinnamon roll Alphas that are trying to WIN 🥇 the girl, a WHY CHOOSE on top of a WHY CHOOSE, and a great cliffhanger that you probably won’t see 👀 coming… then give this a shot! It’s free on KU and you never know… you may be won 🏆 over by BOTH packs too!
I didn't NOT like this book. I'm in a pretty heavy omegaverse phase so most of the time I at least somewhat enjoy the books. And I'm all for MMC mistreating FMC in book 1 and then having to do some groveling in the next book. One might say I am partial to it in fact. As plots go, this one is pretty cookie cutter, although the rival pack thing does add a nice little twist to it. However, all the men were like not much of anything. They were all fairly similar in their lacking of noticeable personality traits, which sort of rendered the rival pack stuff moot. Bc it was just 2 groups of 3 men each that were constantly growling at each other and saying "She doesn't want you, she's coming with us!" repeatedly. And Bea going "No guys, I'm TOTALLY not dating ANYONE." And then dating everyone. Like girl, just date them. It's fine. I would have liked this a bit better if she just came out to both and was like, hey I'm not looking for anything serious right now but obviously I am into all of you so since I'm a grown ass woman and can do whatever I want, I'm gonna date both packs. And if y'all have a problem with that, you can head on out. I hate when FMCs deny deny deny super obvious truths, they just come off as dumb or immature to me when that happens.
Bea was alright, she does NOT strike me as a girl's girl, she's very much the "I'm not like other girls bc I want to have a JOB and hate arranging FLOWERS" type. Which are both totally acceptable traits, I just don't like when authors make out like the OTHER WOMEN who like to do their makeup and shop and don't want to work and whatever else are less than. Bc they are not. Mean women suck, there's no argument from me on that and I am totally guilty of enjoying OW drama in many books. But those women suck only bc they are mean & selfish & exclusionary, NOT bc they like arranging flowers or having their nails done or whatever else. Okay I'll hop off my soapbox now.
I've already read book 2 and I will say here that I enjoyed it more but the personality issues remain the same.
This was a contemporary omegaverse type story with a a strong “why choose” trope going on. Except the “why choose” is why choose between two packs.
Unlike a lot of other books in this genre, there was no ahem hanky panky beyond kissing. So I guess this qualifies as more of a slow burn in that regard.
There’s six mmc’s split evenly into two packs and we switch between their perspectives and that of the fmc. That’s a lot of people too keep track of, and I definitely got confused as to who’s mind we were in at times. This was not helped by how similar some of them were.
All of the mmc’s struck me as more of the morally grey type, and I’m not sure if that was on purpose or not. I wasn’t completely in love with any of them, but I was willing to embrace the morally grey / imperfect thing.
If I had to change anything, I would have spent more time developing the fmc’s back story and personality. And maybe would have cut a mmc or two from the book entirely. I think more time could have been spent setting up the fact that the fmc is in danger and really making the reader feel uneasy about certain people. Rather than just have the mmc’s be ridiculously controlling.
I don’t think this book was perfect, but I still loved it and am giving five stars. I will definitely read the next one when it comes out!
Bea is leaving her small town and her recently ex-fiancé behind. She’s going to the city to live with her cousin to start over.
She’s 26 yrs old and as far as she’s concerned she’s a beta until she is surrounded by alpha pheromones. She has to face the facts that she’s a latent omega and she has grabbed the attention of two alpha packs.
The most sought after packs because of their wealth and standing. Pack York and Pack Boston have a history, they hate each other and are always in a competition to one up the other.
When they both set there sights on Bea all bets are off and it’s every pack for themselves. Bea likes Axel, Nate and Connor from Pack York but she also really likes Silver, Angel and Hardy from Pack Boston. Six men with different vibes from each one.
Bea is about to come into her first heat and she’s got the attention of all the unmated alphas. She wants to get a job and provide for herself because her ex never wanted her to be anything. She wants her freedom but being a newly designated omega limits her because she’s not safe being unmated.
This ends on a doozy of a cliffhanger, just when it was getting good too! I can’t wait for the next book in this duet.
It was good enough to read the second book. Could’ve used an editor as there were a few mistakes that were easy to catch but honestly if it’s self-published I don’t harp on little things like that. Suuuuuper easy to get through though which is a huge plus in my book.
I will say the things that really dropped the rating of this book was the persona of the main character. I’m so sick of the “not like other girls characters” and “pick me characters” and that’s the exact aura the author gave off of her. Please just let women like other women and be exactly like other women for like once. It’s ok to not entirely stand out from the crowd and to get along with the girlies. It’s ok to like things girls like. It does not make you special to be “not like other girls.” I am begging some authors to learn this.
I can easily look past a lot of things and I think that this had a strong plot and idea behind it, but that persona alone really dropped the ball for me. In all, not awful, but I can assure you there are much better omegaverse why choose books out there.
This one didn’t work for me. The h is super damaged and jaded from her recent breakup and has given up men which translated to her fighting every little thing. You can be guarded and untrusting and not have to fight every thing.
The book went like this:
Go on a date with me, no Let me give you this job, no Let me get you this apartment, no.
I did like the way the h had to manipulate her into saying “yes” to things but because of the rivalry and the bet it never truly felt all about the h.
Rinse and repeat. The whole time. She was awful. She was super horny omega for them though. 🙄
This one also had way too much of the “she is not like the other omegas” stuff. It felt gimmicky. I want a special h. I want them to be different but it was just way too gimmicky here.
Her tagline was “i don’t belong to anyone. I belong to myself” 😵💫😵💫 Sorry but in a romance I want the h to want the guys. She finally admits it to herself and her cousin like at 90% but then the betrayal happens so I’m sure all of book two will be “grovel”. I’m not liking anything enough to continue on.
I devoured this book! Couldn’t put it down and I absolutely can NOT wait for part two! May seems so freaking far away! I’ve loved every book I’ve read from Hannah, and this one is now at the top of my favorite list with In Trouble! The characters are so well developed, they all inspired some form of emotion in me (from obsession to wanting to smack them behind the head)! Part two can’t come fast enough because that ending???? Just to make it clear, I absolutely recommend this book!!
This was so fun! Smashed through it in two sittings, and it wrenched me out if my reading slump!
This is definitely shaping up to be one of the better omegaverse that I've read. There's a big cast, but I already have a pretty good idea of who they all are, and I have a feeling I'm going to love them all.
I also have my fingers crossed that the spice will SPICE in the next book because the chemistry is crazyyy hot.
There's also a good balance of plot and character that's keeping me invested beyond the relationships, and I'm excited to dive straight into the next one!
Oh. My. Gawd. Please know the cliffhanger is going to ruin you. In the best way. I loved this book so much and was hesitant at first. Two packs? One omega? Packs hate each other?! But LET ME TELL YOU. It was amazing. So much angsty romance and spice with so many alphas. I found myself drawn to all of the alphas for different reasons and you really get to know each of them for their own little quirks. Amazing omegaverse again from Hannah Haze and already NEEDING AND requiring book 2.
