This is book four in the Joe Dillard Series. I have enjoyed the series so far. At the end of the last book, Joe was appointed District Attorney General of six north-east Tennessee counties by the Governor.

The book is well written and is fast paced. Pratt has created an interesting and complex character in Dillard. The plot twists and turns and the suspense builds throughout the story. Pratt has masterfully weaved Dillard’s personal and professional lives together. The story grabbed my attention at the beginning and held it throughout. This book was hard to put down. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is six hours and twenty-seven minutes. Tim Campbell does a good job narrating the book. Campbell is a classically trained Australian actor and opera singer. He is an Earphone Award winning audiobook narrator.

I read all five books in the Dillard series in 1 week. I loved them. He is my new favorite author. I love mysteries and legal dramas. I read John Grisham and Stuart Woods but now I have a new favorite.

This was Joe Dillard's most dangerous case yet. The bodies of three naked women are found at a lake. As the investigation progresses, Dillard is warned off when he wants to question some important and very wealthy men. As it becomes clear that these men are probably responsible for the murders, things take a really nasty turn. Witnesses are killed and Dillard's home and family are threatened as the cat and mouse game turns deadly. Dillard has to decide whether or not to step over the line of the law in order to keep himself and his family safe. A very tense and gripping book. This is a really good series. I wonder though, where Dillard goes from here.

I'm losing sleep.

If you like legal thrillers as much as I do, this book is for you. Joe Dillard is the unusual attorney with more than enough brains and balls to get the job done while preserving his personal cynicism and integrity. I love characters who are real people with healthy amounts of fear and common sense. The abundance of colorful supporting cast, the credible plot, and independent action, make this book a page turner. If you value your sleep, don't start it at night. Another fine work by Scott Pratt.

In Reasonable Fear (book 4) we finally get to see what Joe Dillard is capable of when it comes to protecting his family. In the previous book, Joe Dillard was appointed the District Attorney of the 6 North-east TN counties by the Governor. As you may know, the former DA was mixed up in unethical (or criminal) behavior, and since Joe was at the root of exposing him, he got rewarded. The thing is, Joe’s a straight shooter and he hates politics. When he got the DA’s job he thought he could do some good, but soon realized the job is all about politics and that's a big disappointment to Joe.
When bodies of 3 young women are fished out of a lake, it turns out that the suspected murderer is a rich and powerful businessman and he has all the local government higher-ups in his pocket, including the Governor – who now all turn their backs to Dillard, except for Sheriff Leon Bates, who supports Dillard by investigating, well, up to a point. Not only is the suspected killer, John Lipscomb, very influential, but he’s also a ruthless man, a drug trafficker, who through his Colombian connections is able to kill off most of the material witnesses in Joe’s case against him.

This was a very enjoyable and fast-paced read. Admittedly, a bit on the light side - I'd wish there would have been more pages dedicated to the capture of the John Lipscomb by a friend of Dillard, but alas we only get that by second hand recounting.
Dillard is a likable and normal guy – he’s no real hero but he has the ability (through his Ranger training and deployment) to fall back on heroic actions – if those are the only choice left.
I love when Dillard doesn't play nice with the Governor, or doesn't kiss the ring of politicians. It’s so rewarding.

After the glow of our thrill in reading in order of Scott Pratt’s first three Joe Dillard novels, especially the third (“Injustice For All”), we felt a little let down by this fourth, “Reasonable Fear". Dillard’s role throughout the tale as little more than a detective sidekick to Sherriff Bates, a long-time ally, belies his job as a regional DA overseeing six Tennessee counties. Things go south in a hurry for both men as a wealthy well-connected bigshot, almost certainly guilty of murdering three “working girls”, is first being protected by the governor; then later, more murders and physical violence to Dillard and his sister lead to the whole family fearing for their lives.

While the plot does feature a reasonable degree of suspense, the violence and incredulity of much of the action was bothersome. While we don’t expect crime stories to be pleasant throughout, the horror and terror involved in this one led to us feeling we wanted to be put out of our misery. Moreover, Dillard’s difficulty in keeping any job does make us wonder where he goes next.

Our late author never got beyond self-publication despite an obvious following and nine books in this series to his credit. This particular outing has diminished to some degree our interest in reading the remaining five. We probably will, but not necessarily in a big hurry.

This wasn't my favorite in the series. Really far fetched. Dillard once again refuses to back down and the expense of everyone around him.

Ecco, normalmente questi personaggi vengono a malapena descritti.

I just finished reading Reasonable Fear and once again Mr Pratt kept me reading late into the night (a work night at that) and I absolutely loved it. If there is one thing that I tell friends, whom I've recommended Pratt's novels to, it's to expect the unexpected in any Joe Dillard story. Well, when I got to Part 3, I had no idea how the author would pull off the ending of the novel, but he did it and left me wanting more.

Joe Dillard is a wonderful and complex character and I can't wait to read what life brings for him and his family in future novels.

Mr Pratt - Thanks for hours of reading enjoyment.....can't wait until your next novel is released, it will be on my Kindle the day it is.

I am so glad I stumbled across this series! Scott Pratt is a great storyteller and makes the reader believe they are right there in the middle of all of the action. In this installment, Joe Dillard is faced with his biggest problems yet. He is the newly appointed district attorney, but his job and his office are no match for the people he is up against. When the killer becomes obsessed with Dillard and his family, Joe has some important decisions to make. What is he willing to do to protect his family? The answer is simple...everything.

Fourth Dillard book from author Scott Pratt. Its way over the top with such a silly plot. Can Dillard go to work one full week from 9 to 5 and have a "normal" week ? The characters were very lively and were the only reason to finish this yarn. I've read a lot better...also, I've read a lot worse too.

I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

Joe Dillard is the DA for a rural Tennessee county. When the bodies of three women are fished out of the local lake after Labor Day weekend, his office starts to investigate.

The primary suspect is a rich and powerful man, who at first uses his influence with politicians to try to steer the investigations away, but soon escalates.

There is also a lot of turbulence in his private life.

Things spin out of control. Behind every great fortune is a great crime.

Another great read. Love the Dillard's. I've now read up to book 6, I believe. I cannot put this series down. Seeing the family grow and go through hardships that we all have first-hand knowledge of, yet still doing your absolute best for the people you represent, is fabulous. Love the legal aspect and the investigation side. I've found this the perfect balance of both. Joe is an amazing character, and his morals are his finest quality. So sad to read that this author has now passed, but what a great legacy to leave behind. I almost feel as if I know the author through his characters.

Four and a half stars: I love this series of novels, all set in Tennessee, with the protagonist, Joe Dillard, who has just recently become the distinct attorney in northeast Tennessee, narrating the events. This story is about the finding of three women dead in a lake, and the suspected killer is a very wealthy and politically connected dirtbag. Great story, great series!,

Dillard has now been appointed District Attorney for four counties in Tennessee but the position does not prevent him being put under pressure politically and intimidated by the accused when an important businessman appears to have been involved in the murder of three escorts/strippers on a houseboat party. Violent plot with little courtroom action.

I am apparently the only woman alive who is not attracted to Joe Dillard (seriously, every woman in this series who even glaces at him ends up drooling for some reason)

I managed to finish the 4 book bundle I bought on a whim and can officially be done with this series now.

My 3rd Scott Pratt book in the “Joe Dillard” series. Enjoyed the first two very much. I was a bit confused at the beginning of this one how all the characters would connect but they did and the book took off! Joe Dillard, my new legal hero!
Most definitely recommend.

This fourth installment of Joe Dillard's adventures is a low-level thriller.
Yet the beginning is rather interesting, it is always pleasant to read, but the development of the plot lacks a lot of plausibility. We swim between the conspiratorial delirium and the big nonsense.
And the end of the book is worthy of a Steven Seagal Z series.
I hope it is a mishap in the series.

Oh my goodness. This had me reading to the end to see what was going to happen. Death threats against Joe Dillard and his whole family makes him wonder what he should do. Does he stop the case from going forward or stay in it to the end. What a crazy life he has to live for the job he does.

Reasonable Fear (Joe Dillard Series Book 4)
MY REVIEW ** TWO STARS

I became an enthusiastic fan of Scott Pratt after reading his runaway hit debut novel AN INNOCENT CLIENT. I purchased additional installments in the Joe Dillard Series and "read to regret" these impetuous purchases.

This is a brief review of REASONABLE FEAR, the 4th novel down the road following Pratt's successful first book. In the spirit of full disclosure, I was still perturbed with the author after reading his prior adventures of Joe Dillard (Injustice For All Book 3).

REASONABLE FEAR was at its very core a "David vs. Goliath" tale. An author can pull an unlikely hero "out of the hat" (like a magician does with a rabbit) and take the reader on a satisfying journey that culminates in both an enjoyable read and a successful book. One doesn't have to look any farther than Greg Iles and his protagonist Penn Cage [ironically a former District Attorney turned Best-Selling Writer]. The simple fact is that the author of REASONABLE FEAR is not able to replicate that same successful formula and achieve the same credible storyline. The fictional character of Joe Dillard, Attorney At Law, ex-Army Ranger, is unable to dart into the proverbial phone booth and emerge as SUPERMAN. That narrative "just don't fly"---and Pratt is no Greg Iles.

It would appear that I am an outlier here, and I'll accept that designation like a good sport.

Don't they have 10 stars? This was my favorite so far - it is the 4th one in the series. You gotta love joe Dillard. Joe could be the new superman as he fights for truth and justice.

This one starts out with the discovery of 4 bodies in the lake. Joe doesn't know that this is going to be one of His toughest cases that will put him and his family in danger. Joe is the new district attorney appointed by the governor of Tennessee. I loved the way joe gets to the governor. When joe starts investigating the murders of the 4 girls, he finds that a wealthy friend of the governors is involved and the governor calls joe and tells him to drop it.

But joe does what Is right, ignores the governor and tells him so, and goes after John Lipscomb, one of the richest men in Tennessee.

Again one of the best books I have read and loved it when joe goes back to his "Ranger" training and goes after the guys that are threatening him and his family. You will again meet some of the lovable characters, Earline, Leon and of course lovable Rio.

I am on to read the next one. Gotta find out what joe is up to now!

4.5 stars. Pratt has not disappointed me yet, and this is the 4th novel I've read by him. This can stand alone, as all his novels can, but I like reading them in order, what with the changes in his career, and the challenges in his personal family life. I love protagonist Joe Dillard, a District Attorney in this novel. He has a good sense of right and wrong, shows loving support of his wife with breast cancer, and concern for his two young adult kids, not to mention his loyalty to his lovable dogs. Joe Dillard is every woman's dream man, and all without a potty-mouth. Even under stress... amazing. That really impresses me. It is rare these days to find a "clean" crime drama.

It is a pleasure to read a good suspense novel coupled with character development that has us rooting for the good guys. Scott Pratt is my favorite find this year. If you haven't met Joe Dillard yet, do yourself a favor and get started with Book #1: "An Innocent Client" (almost free from Amazon for kindle).

All I can say after this terrifying read is WHEW (swiping my hand across my forehead)! I should have known things would turn out ok, but I was still worried.

Joe Dillard really got himself in hot water this time! What should have been a clear cut and dry whodunit type of case, turned out to be so much more. Three young women were found floating in the lake, and Joe was under the impression that was all there was to it, or was it? The next thing he knows, he's getting calls from the governor and advised to let this case go and quite naturally that set Joe to wondering what was there to hide?

Well, as you go through this story, you'll soon discover why Joe should have let this case go, but if you know Joe the way I've come to learn him in the series, he's not one to spook easily. Joe was up for the fight of his life and not only his, but his family as well. OUTSTANDING read! I love Joe Dillard--what an amazing character!

I loved this book

One of the things I love most about Scott Pratt's books is the dedication to his wife at the beginning of each book...read it and it will tell you a lot about him.
Joe Dillard is most women's dream husband I imagine. He is a protector of his family, he adores his wife and kids and is not afraid t o stand up for what is right!
Caroline, I imagine is every man's dream wife. Kind, strong, and adores her family...gives her husband crap when he needs it.
This may be my favorite book of Scott's. He is forced to go against some very powerful and evil people when they threaten his family.
I had 2 favorite parts: when he is talking to his daughter's boyfriend and when he responds to a rude vicious comment a guy makes about Joe's wife...yep that one got a big old fist bump from me! Please keep writing Mr. Pratt.

The Joe Dillard books are like potato chips...you plan to just have a handful, and next thing you know, you've eaten the whole bloody bag.

Speaking of blood, this book has a plentiful share. Drug cartel violence, landmines near the kitchen, dead bodies left sitting in chairs in the middle of the driveway, the requisite "Joe takes on the bad guys by himself" standoffs... Once again, I found myself reaching frequently to push the ol' "I BELIEVE" button, because some of the twists were just a little too fantastical. Fortunately the book slid from one to the next so quickly that I didn't have time to start waving my hands and yelling at the pages. Another quick read - not bad, but just as with that bag of sour cream & onion potato chips, even though I finished it, I'm still feeling sorta unfulfilled.

Bring on #5! (I can't help myself. How many more are there?)

"Reasonable Fear" by Scott Dillard is a very good book of the legal thriller genre, with solid writing and an exciting plot. Mr. Pratt is as killed author who knows how to build tension up to an explosive climax. This book concerns not so much of what goes on in a courtroom, as in previous novels, but in what happens when Joe Dillard, Mr. Pratt's Disrtict. Attorney for a judicial province in Tennesee goes after some very rich people with political connections at the very top of state politics, and criminal connections ( or is that the same thing?)with other exceptionally dangerous men.

Mr. Pratt, IMHO, ranks up there with other notable lawyer/ novelists. His books are quite goo and I recommend them all.
Notes: some sex and violence, not graphic, and necessary for the plot.
