Mated to the Human #3

A Vampire Called Leander

Rate this book
Can an uptight vampire and a free-spirited human find some common ground?

Merrick’s family name is one of the oldest and most influential in Solston, but maintaining an empire has never interested him. He prefers his books, the company of his cat, and to his surprise, a prickly vampire with an aversion to dust.

Leander refuses to take part in the Council’s arranged matings until the most alluring scent catches his nose. Once their mating is finalized though, he finds he has no idea how to meld their two lives together.

A Vampire Called Leander is the third and final book in this fast-paced novella series where the paranormals are all deliciously protective of their humans…no matter what type of trouble they get into.

Wraps up this mini series nicely

My review will cover all three of the novellas in this series as it's really just one big Prologue to the On Guard one as far as I can tell.

I liked each pairing, their premise of being a matched mate is the same but each short follows a slightly different path to get the two men happily coupled up.

There's a main thread running through each too which means minor plot points left open in books one and two, a kind of conclusion in book three to that particular element, but then a new one opening up at the end.

Each of the romances is pretty sweet though, I think I liked book two's pairing best as there was a fair bit of snark in that one.

Overall it's an enjoyable and pretty quick read.

Appropriate wrap-up of the series, a bit more action although the villain is still only a bully on a higher level, the vampire suffering a trust issue which isn't reasonable for a centuries-old being and the epilogue finally brought the beginning of a frown. Luckily my afternoon grumpily recovering from the cold came to an end and it was time to move to Disney+.

Another short and sweet one. I have to say, so far Leander and Merrick have been my favorite couple of the three. I wish the book had been longer, but then again I knew I signed for a short read and so development would be mostly behind the scenes. It was well developed overall, but it's kind of annoying to know there's more to a couple happening in their everyday life but as we're seeing the story on "highlighted events mode", we're missing so much of the emotionally juicy stuff.
I'm glad to hear of more books in this series, and I'm hoping the coming books will be longer and more emotionally juicy.

A VAMPIRE CALLED LEANDER turned out to be my least favorite of this series because it just didn't feel like a complete story. Everything happens so quickly and it all felt so surface level that I never became invested in the characters or the plot. The little bit of interest that came from Leander keeping his distance from Merrick at the beginning is quickly moved past and the characters themselves just felt very one dimensional. You definitely can't read this one without having read the previous two books because the timelines cross and this one does nothing to explain who anyone is or really any history of what's going on.

I felt so bad for Leander! Imagine being mated to someone who didn't want you back, but you're stuck mated till the day SHE DIES 😭💔 so sad.
I liked this one. There was more action than the others.
Hollis's uncles a douche.

Keeping an eye out for Keraks story

Third book in the Mated to the Human series. Also on KU.

Leander is an ancient vampire who's gotten burned by love in the past. Merrick is.... well Merrick. He's a geeky, cat loving. book store owner nerd who would never in past agree to a blind date, let alone an arranged marriage. But, here they are.

I can really see the progression now the writer was aiming for with the couples. Derrick/Hollis, they were like instalove. Jake/Cane not instalove, but affection grew quickly. With Merrick and Leander, the pace is glacial, all things considering. During their first week of marriage they barely go on a few dinner dates. While Derrick/Hollis are burning up the sheets and Jake/Cane are not far behind.

There is a continuous plot arc about bad humans trying to rain on the paranormal's parade which is wrapped up in this book. The end, while giving all the couples an HFN, leaves things a bit open ended and seems to indicate there will be other human/paranormal arranged marriages in other cities soon.

I'd read them. Again. Light, fluffy. Not alot of substance. Some typos, etc. But overall a good read and recommended if it remains on KU.

Cuddly

Leander and Merri are a whole lotta cuddly, sweet fun, but with a twist! “I want you to bite me, taste me. Whatever you need.” Mmm, yes please, even if Leander, does need lessons in what cuddling clothes are. *snicker* I’ll put my faith in Merri who has a way of getting what he wants and uncovering secrets too. I adore this series and its characters, and enjoy how each book takes place at the same time so we get to learn everyone’s perspectives as events unfold. An exciting world full of fun and adventure. Plus, I just may have some new crushes that left me howling for more.

A Vampire Called Leander is the third book in the Mated to the Human series and wraps up the mystery of who is trying to harm the mates. I seriously have loved this series. Each pairing was sweet but I think I loved Merrick and Leander the most. Their romance took a little longer but once they got comfortable with each other, it was sweet. I loved the way the overall story arch with HAP was wrapped up. Overall, a fantastic ending to the series!

4 stars…
Like this whole little short series and it looks like there will be a spin off. I loved these but I pray the spin offs are a tad bit longer. I also love the reveal about Lenettes powers at the end. I really enjoy vampire books so much and Leander was so reserved and I feel like with a whole book I would be in love with him but I think this format was too short for his love to really blossom and show through which was sad. Merrick is so cute and they just kept causally mention him being super rich but I would have loved to get his whole background and to hear more about his grandfather.

1/5 on spice. 1/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. Also is there a book about the demon kings mate? I’m going to look now. See y’all!

Entertaining

Leander and Merrick definitely took their time in their relationship which I actually enjoyed. But once they gave in their relationship was so sweet. I loved how Leander while holding himself back was still ready to go to war for Merrick.

Moving to the future

This book does tell the story of Leander and Merrick, and it does also (sort of) complete the story arc of this trilogy. However, it also leaves a very open ending that leads into another series.

From the other books it was evident that Leander and Merrick weren't contentious about being together, but they also weren't actually together much outside expected events. It is clear that Merrick wants Leander, so the hesitancy is from Leander and his own romantic past. We learn about that as well as some unique things about vampires as the story goes on.

Following parallel events we already know who the people are orchestrating the chaos happening in retaliation to these matings. Things come to a head at a ball and it puts Merrick in peril but also has the chance to bring together all those who believe that these matings are the right way to go.

This does resolve these particular issues, but it certainly doesn't finish the whole story. It is clear there is still some unrest in the city and that humans and paranormals still have a way to go for true peace and cooperation. It also brings to question other cities in the world, which is indeed what is alluded to at the end of the book. This world is going to have continued stories following other characters and possibly other cities. It is a bit of an annoyance as of you want to see how things go you have to read a new series, but it was an enjoyable series so this could be good. I will likely be checking out this other series to see what it is like.

engaging characters and tight storytelling

Rating: 4🌈

A Vampire Called Leander wraps up Michelle Frost’s trilogy about a Paranormal Council’s arranged matings between paranormal beings and humans in order to unify their world.

It’s been a while since I read this series but it was easy to fall back into the universe and characters. At only 90 pages, Frost gets immediately into the storyline, the first meeting and mating of the two characters.

The short length doesn’t allow for much background or depth of culture, but the characters are engaging and the nature of their mating process intriguing.

It’s a fated mates without the buildup of anticipating or the recognition by one that normally occurs. There’s an ongoing conflict by a Human only faction that’s a series element and a fabulous side character, Ammon, who’s a bodyguard of both Leander and his human mate, Merrick.

The ending sets the stage for a sequel series to come. I can only hope that one of those characters that gets a story will be Ammon.

Vampire Called Leander (Mated to a Human Book 3) by Michelle Frost is highly entertaining and I recommend it and the series. Read them in the order they are written to understand the events and characters.

It didn't take long for Merrick and Leander to capture my attention, and though their connection progressed more slowly than others, it felt no less authentic and meaningful. It was kinda sweet to see how much these two fumbled through their first week of being together, and I do wonder if Merri hadn't been in danger how long it would have taken Leander to open up. As it was, the nebulous threat forced them to stay close and break down some of the walls between them, and I loved how cuddly and sweet Leander and Merri could be when left to their own devices. These two were undoubtedly perfect for each other, and I was delighted to see the last of their fears and insecurities about mating fade away with each day they spent together. In parallel, the conflict with HAP really picked up steam, and I was shocked to see how bold and blatant their attacks became in pursuit of their goals. Merri and Leander were unlucky enough to be at the center of it all, but thankfully they had an army of protectors ready to jump into action to keep everyone safe.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

I really do love this series!

This was the last in this particular series which is part of a much larger world and while I’m really sad that this portion is over I am super excited for what’s next. I loved the interactions between Merri and Leander. They worked so well together, both able to understand and work with the each other so that things developed at the right pace between them. Leander was definitely the more cautious of the two of them but I liked the Merrick didn’t push but instead let Leander adjust to them being together. I have no doubt though that if outside forces hadn’t given Leander a bit of a push Merrick would have (in the right way). I definitely think it helps if you’ve read the first two books first. You’d probably get through it without that but I think a lot of things would be missing and the story as a whole wouldn’t be as awesome. They’re all novellas though so it won’t take long to speed your way through the fantasticness that is Jacob and Derek’s books. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

When Your Mate Is Over 300 Years Old

Leander is a vampire with wealth, power, and radiates authority. After being bullied, not really, just a little manipulated into signing a marriage contract with Merri. He decides he needs to keep his distance. He doesn’t want to find out that he’s mated to another person who thinks he’s an animal. Being over 300 years old Leander does believe Merri is the one.
But Merri has a different focus. He agrees to go along with everything Leander wants. They both keep their distance until danger comes near. Then they both get close. How close? Very close! Does Hap continue their reign of terror? Yep they sure do. Do we find out who’s behind it? Sure do! Will it continue on in the next book? I would say probably so! This book leaves you wondering what’s going to happen next. Very well written. Give it a 5 star ⭐️ rating. Nope not telling you anymore. You will have to read it yourself 😊💜❤️

short

Intriguing but too short. I feel like each “story” I’ve had a taste but the mouthful was all I got. This one also needs a continuity editor, which is rather astonishing since these are so incredibly short - how do you lose track so fast? The previous two stories claimed the gala was held one month after the mating. This one claimed it was one week, mentioned it several times and then remarked how long their after-mating-courtship was taking. If it was truly only a week, it’s not even worth mentioning but maybe in passing. I feel compelled to keep reading anyway just because otherwise the stories are interesting, but it’s more like reading someone’s highlights on a story in progress than a completed work. The ideas are pretty good though

Well, Crap! First: This is a lovely read. The writing pulled me in and swept me right through each story. The problem is that the questions developed with each story and by the end of #2 I realized I had more questions than answers.
My questions are sort of answered, (I don't do spoilers so no details) BUT - but the entire series of novellas (short stories - novelettes? - they are almost too short to qualify as novellas) seems to serve as a single prequel to a new - possible - series?
The flow of Frost's writing was good enough that the lack of depth in the character development and detail for the world-building did not impact me strongly until I reached the 'end.'

These may not be long books but I loved them so much I couldn't put them down. I ended up finishing all three in one sitting. Leander is amazing, I love how the whole old fashioned vampire thing wasn't pushed too hard in this, rather he was taking it slow because he'd been hurt before. I liked Merrick, which is a given as he loves books and his cat, he's also really patient with Lee. I enjoyed the way this book intertwined with the others eventhough this one definitely skipped a bit more than the other two. Overall I'd reccomend this series for someone looking for a quick paranormal romance fix.

A VAMPIRE CALLED LEANDER by @michellefrostwrites

Here we are again. Me having finished this book and truly upset that the universe is just starting and I’m here…waiting…. Leander and Merrick were my favorites. I think because it wasn’t instant, but simply a realization that they worked. And the finally with the Big Bad of the trilogy was well done. I also really enjoyed the epilogue getting a little more insight to how this all came to be and seeing where the series and universe can go. Cannot wait!

I have to say, I am a bit disappointed. I really expected some kind of epic battle to wrap up the hate group problem, but instead it was more of a fizzle. I like the way Leander changed, for the better, as his relationship with Merrick solidified. But I still like the first book, Derek and Hollis, the best.
I’m not sure what to make of the epilogue. It doesn’t close any loops for our three couples. Instead, it left me with a lot of unanswered questions about the world this author is building.

Frost already has the next series in this universe planned out. Good on her! The Mated to the Human series are only novellas, so, as usual, this story was too short.
It was an enjoyable little bite of a story. Merri is sweet. And he certainly seems to enjoy suit porn. Or at least when his mate, Leander, is wearing the suit.
It was a fun, quick (very quick) read. Leaves you wanting more. Which is coming in about 3 months.

. . .
É uma leitura F(. . .), desculpe pela palavra, eu amei 🖤. . .
Amei! . . Boa Leitura 😘

This was a good end to the series, but I'm even more interested in the continuation series coming soon. Also, I'm very interested in Kerak and his mate Reid because I don't think there are any books about them either. Didn't get to see a lot of vampires besides Leander in this one and their romance felt a bit abrupt, but there was a lot more action here. As with the others, I wish this had been longer so more detail could have been added.

While I did like Leander and Merrick, I think they are the weakest of the three main couples as far as narrative quality. That is, of course, not a huge knock against them as I still greatly enjoyed their romance, I just didn't feel they were as well integrated into the stuff with the antagonists as the other couples. (Merrick is just super rich and Leander is just a respected vampire, whereas there's family tie-ins and other connections among the other guys.) Still, a very fun series!

I really enjoyed this story. This is the third book in this series and while each story is about a different couple the backstory should be read in order. I loved these two together and while part of the backstory gets finished, it seems like we have more coming up with another story arc. This was so good and I can’t wait to read what comes next.

I absolutely love this story. This is the third book in the series. It is such a great addition. I really liked the storyline a lot. Oh man the characters are what hooked me to the story. I absolutely love them not only on there own but together as well. This was a very well written book and I really enjoyed it.
