In a universe parallel to out own Michael Macdonald was a pre-med student in the Marine Corps reserve, called to duty in Kuwait when King Saddom of Iraq unleashed horrors upon the world never seen since ancient times. He discovered the secret that stopped the ghouls and put the world back in balance, leading the counter-attack which gave Kuwait back to her people. But the emotional scars he returned home with forced Michael to build a wall between the world and himself, keeping the past out in the shadows like a company of unquiet old ghosts. But old ghosts remember...and tonight, they are coming home.

An intriguing mix of Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro's "The Strain" series, Justin Cronin's "The Passage," and shades of Stephen King's "The Stand," with enough military action, government conspiracy, and unholy zombies to keep things moving quite nicely!

This title has broad appeal - for those who like the military/action genre, there's plenty of that. For those who like a little of the spooky, government conspiracy stuff - that's there as well. For those who like the paranormal genre - got it covered. For those who like a faith-based tale that's not overly preachy, this is it as well. And for those who just like a good story, with a well-paced plot, interesting characters, and who are willing to engage in a little "suspension of disbelief" - I'd recommend reading this one.

The author of Shadow Waits made his book very interesting reading. I do not normally get into books about Vampires and Ghouls. However this book was an exception. I found the authors blending of the characters and their roles very well put together. He was able to put a new spin on the good vs. evil we read and watch. I found it hard to put it down with the last 100+ pages. The author showed me a way how you could take something conceived as evil and combine it with good to defeat something more evil than itself.
